Kaanapali Beach Club Resort is one of my home base resorts. I always thought there were to three types of unit category views. Scenic, Oceanview and Oceanfront. Now there are three different types of Oceanview units: standard, deluxe and panoramic. Is this new? Does anyone know the unit changes at The Point at Poipu and points required for winter season at each location.

I just stayed there for 2 weeks.
First week was standard. Nothing special.
Second week was Deluxe. I could see ocean, over pool, from inside the room.
I'm guessing Panoramic are the corner rooms with windows on both sides.
My standard room, was 2 bedroom corner unit, but facing food trucks.

Panoramic is a new category for the 08 and 12 rooms. They are the units they showed us 27 years ago and up until this year were classed as deluxe ocean view. They also weren’t showing up for me until I spent an hour on the phone with Hilton. The room on my contract was 808. Their standard line is you are not promised a specific room. What they are doing is trying to sell that as a value add to incent people to waste more money upgrading to Diamelle or whatever.

The view categories have not changed even though some views are blocked by the new development. The categories are attached to the registered deed for each week and unit. The required number of points for each category hasn't changed either.

There is a new view panoramic view category. It hasn’t shown up in the catalog yet but has been implemented on the website and at the resort. I thought it was a new devaluing at first as it was not showing up as a choice for us. I called HGV and it is now a choice for us at the points cost we expected. As far as I can tell this was just a way to manage everyone requesting these view rooms as there are only 20 of them. We just got back and had a great time. I am sorry for the people who caught caught in the storm that just hit.

At least it's the same number of points.

We had a panoramic room one year. We left the windows open to get a nice cross breeze. The wind picked up in the middle of the night and got so strong it broke off the plastic blade of the overhead fan. Fortunately, it didn't hit us! I hope they're still not using plastic fan blades.

We are going to an owners update today at Kaanapali and should hear about the panoramic categories today.been vacationing here since 98 and we own fixed week here in 1208, which we trade for points yearly now. They always try to get us to upgrade to max, it doesn’t seem very desirable to lower reservation window to 6 weeks though!🤣🤣

P@P is our favorite by far. KBC does have the advantage of several restaurants nearby including Dukes and a food truck court, but its biggest disadvantage is the majority of the rooms are one bedroom with mini kitchen.

We have never stayed at P@P yet; plan to stay later this year...
We stayed at KBC recently & loved it but it was a 1 BR with a mini-kitchen, which was a drawback... The room was fairly roomy; resort is right on Ka'Anapali beach with access to the beach right there; nice pool; lovely landscaping; loved it much more than the HGV Maui Bay Villas in Kihei...
Hope to have a lovely experience at P@P & if so, that may be our fav HI destination going forward...
We did enjoy our stay at Bay Club with it's amazing Lanais (with access to Kingsland pools/amenities at Big Island as HGV Elite), so will likely love the laid back vibe at P@P also (+ true ocean views vs none at Bay Club) + having access to Kauai (vs BI)...
Mahalo!

Point at Poipu has a wonderful location. My personal favorite of all the HGVC Hawaii properties I’ve stayed. There is miles of shoreline walking to either side of the property. I absolutely love being able to walk straight to Poipu and hit a surf spot. There is also an excellent secluded beach nearby that is my favorite.

Bay Club sounds nice with your elite privileges. That is one reason I’m kicking myself for not upgrading a property 3600 pts more to get Elite. I’ll pretty much have to stay at Kingsland now and not Bay Club because the pool complex is so great at Kingsland. The Big Island properties are nice, but the feel of being right on the beach in Kanapali or Poipu is really my favorite. I love BI but it sure involves a lot of driving to go anywhere

Thx for the kind feedback!
Seems like we will love it too! (hope they upgrade all the rooms asap, as feedback on older rooms is not so nice, hence some reservations re P@P). But def 2 BR, 2 Ba, right on the water, seems very nice. Have never been to Kauai yet (although have been to BI & Maui many times), so looking forward to it!
re HGV pts, no worries; modest, quick purchases via CL, as you know.
If important to you, pick another one, when you are ready & will get Elite status too!

The room upgrades have been slow, mainly because the resort is usually booked to capacity. The older units are fully functional, they just look dated. They still keep them well maintained. Here's the renovation schedule.

Complete: Building 4 (finished at the end of December), 6, 9, and 10.
Scheduled for 2026: 1 and 8
Not scheduled yet: 2, 3, 5, and 7.

We must have a two bedroom unit.

Yeah, I’ve noticed that too and it confused me at first as well. It doesn’t really feel like a “new category” so much as them slicing the ocean view definition more finely now - probably just to better separate the better-located units from the more limited views within the same bucket.

At The Point at Poipu it’s kind of the same story, the labels stay familiar but how they’re applied (and what they cost in points) seems to shift over time, especially for winter weeks when demand jumps. I’ve found the only thing that stays reliable is checking the current points chart for the exact season, because the category names don’t always tell the full story anymore.
