I have to use a guest certificate to have my son check in Marriott Beach Towers.

Has anyone else had to do this.

I get it if not a family member but wondering if this is new policy.

JT

Not new, same as it has always been, the reservation has to be in the name of the person checking in and if it isn't they should be denied check-in.

Yes, the policy is that if anyone other than those named on the II confirmation are checking in then you need a guest certificate. The relation to those named on the confirmation is irrelevant.

And @JT if you were on property too- say staying in your own unit- you won’t need the guest cert.

This is not new.

Everything everyone has said is true. That being said, you could call the hotel directly and ask them to add your son to the reservation, so he can check in. Most MVCs will do this even for II, especially if same last name. But since they have cracked down on name changes it may not work anymore.

I've done this many times for when gifting to family, usually immediate family. I've only had one time where they said no, that was Maui.

Thank you. I have always called and had my son name added to check in. Never had to use Guest Cert. This is first time for me.

Noted.
