Staying at the hilton club (studio) in manhattan at the end of feb/early march. We were glad to get this during a family event. Any places nearby for cheap eats? Nice places nearby for a few nice dinners? Any insights into what we should expect when checking in?

We go to NYC several times a year a year. I prefer eating out in the West Village. We like Aria Wine Bar, Bricola Pizza, and Jack's Wife Freda. It is a few stops down the 6th Ave. subway line. You get off at the W. 4th / Washington Square Station. Subway is the best way to get around in NYC.

Who wants to eat when New York City has become a ski resort?

I found that while looking at reddit (r/newyorkcity) because I used to be able to find discussions about restaurants. But now there's just talk about snow and ice and cold and ICE. And a search for "restaurants" just turned up discussions from years ago.

But I love Chinatown. Wo Hop is a favorite of mine and has been for years. Also, the Vietnamese restaurants in Chinatown are very good.

Where is this located? I'm finding a couple of Hilton Clubs when looking at Google maps. We do have some favorite restaurants, but just need to know the location of where you are.

Not certain, but I think the OP is talking about the original Hilton Club, since that is the only one with the Hilton Club name alone. That is located in the big Hotel at: 1335 6th Ave 37th FL, New York, NY 10019

Okay, that one is close to Gallagher's Steakhouse. I haven't been, but it's very well regarded. Also close to Quality Bistro. Again, haven't been but well regarded. We were going to go there on a trip last year but skipped it due to the weather.

One of our favorites is about an 8 minute walk. Nocello on 55th between Broadway and 8th. Very good Italian food, and not horribly expensive (for NYC).

Yes that's it. I worked right next door at 1345 Avenue of the Americas.

We have our parking figured out but learning a couple other things about this place. While we know its a studio with no kitchen, we have learned there is no microwave, nor a coffee maker!

Looks like there is a place to get coffee just steps away.

Kinda problematic when i prefer my coffee before i get dressed (and before i face the outside world)! I dont think ive ever been in a hotel room that didnt have a coffee maker.
That's a bit strange. Many people prefer that. At the very least, they should have complimentary coffee somewhere in the lobby, maybe just between 6:30 and 9:30 but at least something.

Hmm, we stayed there a couple of years back. Don't recall the lack of coffee maker, but perhaps so. There is both a full serve restaurant and a coffee place in lobby. Neither are complimentary. Owners can probably get free coffee in the Owners lounge.

My daughter and I stay a week at the Hilton Club inside the Hilton Midtown, between 53rd and 54th on Avenue of the Americas (6th Ave.) annually. It says "bedroom suite" but it is just a hotel room. I don't recall if there is a coffee maker as I prefer the Starbucks right across 53rd St from the hotel. Sweet daughter throws on sweats and gets coffee for us every morning. I've yet to find a restaurant within this massive hotel though the bar serves a limited menu from late afternoon to ? There is a market in the lobby that has various coffees, pastries, sandwiches, and the usual hotel snacks, magazines, and sundries. Ridiculously expensive. We purchase snacks and drinks up the street from a local market for the room. It's a great area to explore with many restaurant choices nearby. It's close to Central Park and close enough to Time Square without being in the midst of its craziness. Looking forward to our girls week coming up in late March.

I used to work next door at 1345 for multiple years.

Once you're at work, you would rarely leave the building. So how do people eat lunch? Delivery delivery delivery. I was particularly fond of the Chinese food that would be delivered. Hot and sour (or sometimes miso) soup, a delicious entree with rice, a beverage. Free delivery in the days before uber eats as by far the highest percentage of the restaurant's business was its lunchtime (and dinnertime) delivery of meals to high rise building workers.

The only time I remember leaving the building midday was (1) a meeting elsewhere or (2) going to the falafel "stand" (just a stainless steel cart on wheels) near the building's front entrance. Incredibly delicious falafel in a pita, tahini sauce, a splash of hot sauce, and a drink.

Everything very inexpensive.

So, unless things have drastically changed, you may have many "dining" options right nearby or via delivery. I imagine all manner of delivery menus will be available somewhere in the hotel (front desk, wherever)

The restaurant is attached to the Herb N Kitchen marketplace, one side is counter service coffee, sandwiches, pastries etc, if you veer to the right, they have table service with a breakfast and brunch buffet. Not sure if they serve dinner.

But you're right, it's expensive, and lots of good, less expensive options are outside the hotel. I would only eat in the hotel if you didn't want to leave the building for some reason.

We will have dinner with our son and his wife at least once while there. They work in Manhattan and live in Brooklyn. They are away during the early part of our stay. Have a family (cousins) event on Staten Island near the ferry terminal So likely leaving my hard to park in a garage truck over there and taking the the ferry and subway to the "suite" and will back track when we leave a day early. Love the street foods, hoping to find some good knishes, sabretts dogs. Likely headed down into lower manhattan to a couple of very old bars...St Patricks Cathedral for sunday mass.

Did they nag you about a sales presentation?

We were there on a promotional rate that included a mandatory presentation held at W57. The salesperson had already figured out that our Elara unit was purchased resale, and established that we were not going to buy anything from him before we even sat down at his desk. Other than getting over to W57 and waiting in the lobby, the whole thing lasted less than 5 mins.

what did they offer to get you to attend? ...Nevermind it was due to the promotion you took advantage of.

I can picture the Herb N Kitchen but not a place for table service. Hmmm...

Can someone explain to me how this property works? How do people other than owners book there as it doesn't show up in my list of bookable NY properties (I'm legacy HGVC)? If you do own there, can you use your points at other locations or just at this location?

The Hilton Club New York (HCNY) is unique. There is no way for people other than owners to book there directly using points though they can trade in via RCI. Owners of HCNY can use their points to book at HCNY or anywhere else in the HGVC system (though booking elsewhere is a poor value since the MFs/point are so high).

Note that HCNY is separate from HGVC with it's own reservation website and requires payment of separate annual dues. Also, HCNY is *not* considered a bHC resort and those who own both HCNY and a NYC/DC bHC resort can't use their HCNY points in the Home Resort or bHC windows of the NYC/DC bHC resorts. Also, HCNY deeds are for a certain number of points, most (all?) of which don't actually align with the point costs for a week in any size villa in any season.

HCNY is also often available via Hilton.com as a cash booking.
