My Husband Had A Massive Heart Attack

The problem I'm stuck with is I've had at least 2 episodes that met the Heart Attack symptoms, once in my early 30s and once in 2025. They were bad enough for me to go to the ER. Both times it was determined after a bunch of tests that it was gas. Granted, I was younger the first time anyway, 44 now, but there's a history of heart attacks on my dad's side so I take it seriously. The problem is of course that at the very least I'm now inclined to take a gas-X or something before heading to the ER.

It kinda sucks that there are basically completely benign causes of the Heart Attack symptoms.
I once went by ambulance to the ER because of chest pain. It was esophageal spasms, which 20 years later I still occasionally get. Scary stuff.

@WinniWoman, I am just seeing this today and I am so very sorry to hear about your hubby, having a heart attack is so scary. I hope he recoversy quickly and your in my thoughts and prayers...

My hubby had a massive heart attack last year on the expressway as we were driving to Florida, my hubby is 68, and he was able to have open heart surgery and has now recovered but this shook me to my core, life is so short...

much love

Omg! I didn’t know about your husband! I must have missed that somehow or maybe I’m starting to get dementia. How scary is that- while driving on a long trip!

I wish my husband would have been able to have the heart surgery as it has better overall mortality rates, but he just wasn’t doing well after the initial 4 stents were put in during the emergency catherization. So back to the emergency room he went after a week and another stent put in a different artery during another 5 day hospital stay. His heart just wouldn’t wait for the necessary rest period required before the surgery.

I’m glad to hear your husband recovered. My husband is starting cardiac rehab in a couple of weeks. It’s been hard as he just was recovering from the prostate surgery, had the cataract surgery and then the next day the heart attack. And we are having a real New England winter this year with tons of snow and frigid temps and he can’t do anything in this little cottage we live in. He also only has one good eye since the other cataract surgery is now on hold so after the ok from the heart doc, driving will still be limited unless he can get prescription glasses or contact lenses temporarily which we will discuss again with eye surgeon.

Meanwhile I’ll be 70 this year and I feel like I’m 90. lol!

My friend fell and shattered her elbow. She must have surgery and did not pass the pre op dr visit because they found a heart issue. To top that off, her husband has been fighting cancer for over a year and is failing
They have hired someone to help them but life is pretty difficult She also has multiple food allergies and he is insulin dependent diabetic
her friends are trying to help any way we can.

Omg. How horrible! I don’t even know what to say. So very sad. Getting old is frightening!

Prayers for your friend and her husband. 🙏

And living at the Old Folks Home we hear about health issues we were previously oblivious to!

It’s true. My husband’s heart attack was occurring over 5 days! Not something you would think of as a massive heart attack!

I think thats not uncommon with many. Mine was happening for 36 hours before I went in. I personally know of six others that didnt know they were having a heart attack for hours or days. We all recovered.

The one thing that helped me was cardiac rehab where we exercised three days a week while hooked up to monitors. On the days with no exercise we went to cardiac classes. This went on for three months.

If your husband goes to cardiac rehab you might mention to say cardiac rehab instead of rehab. I would tell some people I had rehab and would need to reschedule appointments. It got back to us that some thought drug or alcohol rehab, lol.

I hope your husband has a full recovery. Have they assessed how much damage he suffered?
