I divested myself of a Mexico timeshare this week

Hubs and I loved going to Mexico for vacations. We "owned" at 3 different resorts for quite a long time.

I have 2-2 bedroom Vidanta Grand Luxxe units for 8 more years that we were able to get the Sr. Certificates for back in 2007, so I can use those weeks through 2033 before I have to pay the renewal fee. Those will be my primary travel places in the future as I do not have to pay for my weeks. In 2034, I will not renew my contract as I will be turning 87.

Next year is my last year at the Buganvilias Vacation Club. I have loved the location and our unit, but will turn 79 in January, so no 15 year contract renewal for me. I met some awesome folks last year and guided them on how to negotiate for my unit so that it is fixed and not flexible.

In 2012, we bought a Pueblo Bonito Emerald Bay Master Suite on eBay for $400 for overflow to a timeshare next door for family to stay when we were there. That one went bankrupt after 7 years, but we still had PBEB and I kept paying the MF each year. This year, I called in and asked what it would cost to give my contract back and was told $1000. I decided to pay it as I still had 6 years and the pay early MF was just over $700. I decided that $1000 was cheaper than paying increased fees for 5 more years and not going or exchanging by paying extra exchange fees.!

I have loved timesharing, but will just do my Vidanta weeks after November 2026.

You could exchange but I doubt that you could ever get the same quality of room that is expiring. You definitely had a great run there.

I'm kind of surprised you wern't using the PBEB to exchange. Doesn't it trade well ? We were there a while back and the place is very nice, imo.

It traded ok, but since my husband died in 2023, I have just been going to Vidanta and Buganvilias because they are my favorites. I did travel quite a lot in 2025 - 43 days.

I have the Senior Certificates at Vidanta so I can go without paying maintenance fees for between 2 and 4 weeks each year depending on what units I choose to stay in. (I can do that through December 2033.) I was at the RM GL in a 2-bedroom in late April with former co-workers for a week, then went to Puerto Penasco GM 2-bedroom a week in May to celebrate a daughter-in-laws birthday, then the Puerto Vallarta Marina Mayan Palace November 15th a week before moving to the Buganvilias, and then to a beachfront condo that my son rented for family for 10 days.

I also went to Myrtle Beach for a family thing, and stayed in my brother's condo the first week of November, so I was home for only 4 days between November 1 - December 4th.

I already have a week in NV GL 2-beroom scheduled for February 2026 and a week at Cabo San Jose GM scheduled in April, 2026, plus my last week and bonus week at the Buganvilas for November 2026. I still have 1 free week to schedule, but will try to use my 2 deposits at SFX in 2026 to go somewhere and then cancel SFX.

I do have a 10 year old cocker spaniel so need to be home some.
