Little confused about the maintenance fee from a recent hybrid package bought directly from MVC

Hi everyone,

Wish you all had a nice Thanksgiving!

So I bought a hybrid for 3k points, and a plat week that is worth a little over 3k points back in Aug. The points portion closed pretty fast, in Sep or so. And the week just recently closed two weeks ago or so. My 2026 points immediately jumped by an additional 3k points, and now I can elect that week, but only starting in 2027. When the week just closed, I only have maintenance fee due in Dec for my original ownership before this hybrid package and the new 3k points for 2026. But now I see an additional "2026 Maint Fees from Closing" and "2026 Club Dues from Closing" associated with the 3k points, and 2026 operating, replacement, prop tax fees for the week.

Am I getting double charged here? Because now in my account it shows me due double the amount for the 3k points for 2026, and fees for the week in 2026 while I have no way to use that week (either booking or electing for points) in the system.

Thanks.

It can take a week or so for the account to sort itself out after a transfer.

You certainly shouldn't have to pay the maint fee for the 2026 week if you don't have some use of it and it should have been defined int he closing documents when the usage years were for the ownerships. If your pre-existing ownership is enrolled then you shouldn't have to pay a second club dues if everything is in exactly the same names as your pre-existing ownership. If the names are not exactly the same then that can be the source of issues like double charging.

If none of the maint fees are due int he next couple of weeks, give it that long to see if it sorts itself out, otherwise call to get clarification, but expect it to be muddled and stay on top of things.

Are your original points calendar Use Year, and are the points associated with your Hybrid purchase calendar Use Year as well, or do they have a non January start date. Non calendar Use Years can produce some head scratching as to what MFs are related to what.

Yes, the new points MF has a due date of end of Dec (my old points + new points have together posted MF due start of Dec, which was posted sometime ago). And the week MF is due end of next Jan. I'll wait a couple of weeks to see if they just disappear from my account. Thanks!

Yes my original points are calendar use year, and when purchasing the hybrid I confirmed with the sales that the new points will be starting 2026 calendar year as well. So I am not surprised to see my updated 2026 MF for my old and new points posted together sometime ago. But surprised to see the new points now has this additional MF and club dues posted for 2026.

Did you have 2025 usage of new points at closing of the new points purchase? If so, the “MFs from Closing” are likely related to the 2025 usage.

I could be wrong but I believe all the points now sold by Marriott always have calendar year use, and I believe this has existed for some time now. Of course resale points will very likely retain their original annual issued date.

Interestingly enough the Marriott point program has now been in existence for over 15 years (since June of 2010)

.

No I didn't, and when purchasing I confirmed with sales because I have no more use of points for 2025 and don't want to prorate MF. I guess I'll wait a few weeks to see if the system sort it out. What is concerning is that I got a statement for that MFs from closing.

Looking through my point transaction history, I do see one line for 2025 associated with this new point contract. But that is the good for two year one time bonus point as incentive. Could this triggered the additional MF? If so, it is clearly a mistake. Those bonus points have no MF attached.

So you were under the understanding that your new points would have a use year starting January 2026 and the new week you bought would have a use of 2027? I agree with the other poster, it may take a week or so for your account to settle. If it doesn't, contact your sales rep and have them straighten things out.

TBH, I don't exactly remember when the start of use for the week would be when I was making the purchase. But the points I am sure we confirmed it will start in Jan 2026.

I'd double check some items now as you don't have a lot of time before the end of the year. Go back to your documentation and check to see if you were or were not getting the 2026 week on that portion. Also double check that the title's are listed exactly the same on the new and old portion. I'd send an email off the website that you are being billed twice for the club dues. Easier to fix it sooner than later if there's a glitch. Reach out to your sales agent if you still have an issue if not easily fixed otherwise.

And the only points you got were the incentive you were expecting and the 3000 trust points? I was thinking perhaps they elected the week for you if that week use starts in 2026.

The incentive points (3x the 3k I bought) was posted and good for use earlier this year up to two years. The 3k points are in my account starting 2026. But the week shows I can only start using, either by booking that week or electing for points, in 2027.

Thank you for the suggestion. I will do that next week.

A little update for anyone who may be interested. The week's MF automatically disappeared a few days after this post (although my payment history showed a payment). I called for the points' portion and was told it should disappear before the deadline but it didn't. Called again on 1/2 this new year and they did some research and told me it should disappear in 7-10 business days and it did.
