HBO Max Black Friday Deal

Pretty good deal. We already get HBO Max for free with our AT&T internet plan but would have signed up for this if we didn't. I am interested to see if Hulu and Peacock offer similar deals as they did last year. I just cancelled both of them in anticipation of the same deal rolling around. We just signed up for Paramount+ though Walmart+.

Ads are a deal breaker for me. Life is too short.
Yeah, I have similar sentiments. Either the subscription pays or the customer pays. Why both?

We have apps here that are free but have ads. I can put up with the ads (just like old time TV) if the app is free. But if I pay and subscribe, I don't think there should be any ads.

Too bad; seemed like a great deal, BUT In fine print is :
Valid on Basic With Ads monthly plan only.
Offer ends 12/1/25. See terms.

Same here. Adds suck.

But isn't the same true of cable TV? You pay for the service and you would still watch ads. This has mainly been the case since the rise of cable television.

Somewhat, I guess. With cable TV, you pay the cable company, then the advertisers pay the networks. My thinking is that with apps on the TV, I pay the subscription service and so do the advertisers.

So my thinking would be that the app would be getting two streams of revenue.

Perhaps, but much of the cost of cable service is paid back to the networks. So in both cases the companies are still getting both streams of revenue. If there were no ads on cable TV channels, the cost of cable would be higher. There would still be a base cost, just like with streaming having cheaper ad supported tiers and higher prices ad free tiers.

Has anyone seen an offer from Peacock yet?

Does anyone want three months of YouTube Premium for free? (must be a TUG Member). We got a promo code a few weeks ago for something we purchased from Best Buy and I just got another one. It can't be used by an existing or past Premium subscriber or anyone who has use one of the promo codes before. Make sure you qualify under the offer details below.
YOUTUBE PREMIUM OFFER:
*Only available to users who are not currently YouTube Premium or YouTube Music Premium subscribers; have not been YouTube Premium, YouTube Music Premium, YouTube Red or Google Play Music subscribers; and have not participated in a YouTube Premium, YouTube Music Premium, Google Play Music or YouTube Red trial before. Offer must be redeemed by March 2,2026, at 11:59 p.m. PT. A valid form of payment is required at signup, but you will not be charged until the trial period expires. At the end of the trial period, you will be automatically charged the individual subscription price, currently $13.99/month, on a monthly recurring basis, until you cancel. You can cancel your trial at no charge at any time before the trial is over through the YouTube app. No refunds for a partial billing period are available. Additional terms and conditions apply.

Agree ... I have no ads on YouTube and can't go back now.
I find YouTube premium to be very expensive for what you get. The product of YouTube is actually free. Premium is $14/month just to remove the ads. Don't get me wrong, we are on a free trial of Premium and it is great, but I doubt we will keep it past the trial period. I can put up with a few ads on YouTube. They do help pay the bills for many creators.

You get free Peacock (or Paramount +) with Walmart + which is currently 1/2 off. $49 vs. $98.
Yeah, I found that one and we have Walmart+ now but use it for Paramount+. The reason I didn't use it for Peacock is I was expecting another black Friday deal. We signed up last year for $19.99 for a year. Have actually done that two years in a row.

I have youtube premium lite for $7.99 per month and am pleased with it. The main difference with it and the full price plan is that you do get ads with the music streaming.
" To get YouTube Premium Lite, go to youtube.com/premium and select the Premium Lite option, which is a lower-priced membership for ad-free viewing on most videos (except music, Shorts, and search/browsing). Alternatively, visit youtube.com/paid_memberships and look for the Premium Lite option there. "

So lite seems to remove ads before, during and after long form videos. That may be an option. I will look into it. Thanks.

I just signed up for the deal
The offer made to me during sign up was for Disney Plus/Hulu without adds for $10.00 a month for 12 months
This was not something I have seen in the advertising
It was offered as choice during sign up

Another one for those interested in trying a different streamer out $.99 mo for 50+ channels for 3 months
