DD recently got (2) 2 yo. rag doll cats. They are medium to large cats. The litter she was using worked fine at first but now not so much.

She's looked at other litters and fancy litter boxes.

Anyone with suggestions?

Thank you.

When you say the litter isn't working, is it because the cats won't use the litter box or it isn't absorbent enough?

We have 2 ragdolls. We switched several years ago to a brand called Pretty Litter (a monthly subscription that get shipped to your home, but I noticed recently that Wal-Mart started carrying it). We need 2 bags at a time (swap out every month) for 2 cats sharing a large litter box). It is significantly lighter than traditional clumping litter. Turns different colors as a warning if cat's alkalinity/acidity is off. Seems to mask odors well; seems to be less dusty as well. Only downside is it aint cheap. https://www.prettylitter.com/

We have 2 tuxedo cats that are pretty large and we also use the Pretty Litter. I highly recommend, if you don’t mind paying for it. It does last longer than other litter so you don’t have to change it as often. As for litterboxes, we changed to stainless steel about a year ago. Again, they cost more but they don’t absorb the odors like the plastic litter boxes and are very easy to clean. I have the one below which I ordered from Amazon. I really like it because the top is so easy to get off when scooping the litter.

We use the Breeze Tidy Cats by Purina. No scooping of urine clumps. It consists of a Special Liiter Box with a slide out Tray, Pellets, and Pads. The Pads are in the slide out Tray beneath the Pellets. The Urine seeps through into the Pad. The Pellets slowly dissolve into the Pad. As for poo you simply scoop it out of the pellets as necessary. Every now and then you need to add more Pellets. We have had 2 Cats share the same Box. With 2 Cats we were changing the Pad twice per week. Also because Cats tend to urinate at 1 end every day or so you pull the Tray out and flip it 180 and slide back in. We have had no issue with urine or poo smell.

We use Smart Cat grass litter for our kitty kids. Dust free, fragrance free, dump a 20 pound bag into a large potty pan and it lasts five to six weeks with morning scooping. Save the previous bag to dump the old litter in, tape it closed and drop down trash shoot. Dirty pan and scooper go into the shower to soak with Pinesol for a couple hours, new bag goes into the second litter pan. Jack dances around the whole time this operation is going on because he wants to be first to christen the new pan. AHHHHH!

I would suggest just a clumping litter and consider something like a litter robot. Those were great and I believe they have larger cat designs now.

Just be careful with which one of these robot litter boxes you buy.
Some of them have been known to decapitate some cats.
The companies have paid people to remove the reviews on Amazon so that's not very helpful if someone
leaves a bad review. There are videos showing which ones are dangerous.

Hasn't it also been said that you should have one more litter box than the number of cats that you have? So for two cats there should really be three boxes. They also shouldn't all be together in the same room.

We have never had more than 1 Litter Box. Even with 2 Cats. It is down in the Basement.

Cats don't always follow people plans.
Or

I'm pretty sure the litter robot is safe from the designs I've seen. I am using the brand name as I recall it.
I had one for 10+ years, though I guess it was the original, now they've got 3 versions on sale with multiple models? I kinda doubt you need an app for this, but it did work with one robot for 3 cats.

My 14 year old Ginger Tabby "Simba" is OK with this litter, bulk is always good! As others say, 1-2 litter boxes per cat. We tried the Breeze system years ago, they (Simba and his late sister Nala) didn't like it. The urine pads were expensive, so we used Puppy Pads, but no matter what, they did not like the pellet "feel".

Not happening, ever! We’ve had as many as four cats using one large pan, scooped twice daily. (Those cats also had daylight access to outside until about 2018 when the coyotes started working the day shift). Now we have two cats in the same large pan, scooped after breakfast.
