What has changed when adding Interval reservations to Bonvoy accounts???

Yep. I tried it all. Nothing. Finally gave up and called. That worked.
I'm surprised calling worked. Lately, it seems, they simply won't touch an II reservation when calling Marriott (hotel company/Bonvoy).

I just added my wife's Bonvoy number to an II reservation for January on the website. The key is to NOT LOGIN EVER. When you are logged out and try to look up a reservation (use the link in post #25). When the reservation is found, you will get a popup box that wants you to log in. DON'T DO THAT. Remember what I stated above, don't login ever. Click the X in the upper right of the box to close it. Your reservation details will now appear. Now scroll down and click the small down arrow on the right beside the guest name to expand it. From there, enter the Bonvoy number in the box and click Save. Now when you log in, the reservation should show up under your trips.

So what happens if you do a retrade for that exchange? Will the reservation disappear or will you need to call Marriott so there is no confusion when some new exchanger checks in?

I think if no one picks up the week you released, the reservation stays in your name. This happened to me when I did a last minute retrade and at checkin the front desk kept telling me I had another room to check into. I could also see the reservation in my app for a few days after check in.

What a pleasant surprise. It's been a year and a half since I last tried, and I ended up calling. I just went to my trips in the app, added the confirmation number and date, and the week was listed. It did not work when I tried it in the web browser.

Were you logged in to your Bonvoy account when you tried it in the web browser?

Yes, I needed to be logged in to go to "My Trips"
That is the problem. You can't be logged in when trying to add it. You need to be logged out. You can still look up a trip manually then edit the guest details to add your Bonvoy number. All while logged out. If you are logged in, it won't work. See post #25 and #27. It will save a phone call. I am actually quite surprised that calling works. For many years they flat out refused to add a Bonvoy number to an II confirmation when calling Marriott customer service.

That's why I went to the app.

When I was adding an II reservation to my account using the app, I was able to find it fairly easily but an error message popped up prompting me to call Bonvoy at 801-468-4000. They had no issues with adding it to my account when I called.

There was an app update yesterday. Maybe you can add reservation to Bonvoy account again.

But the app doesn't work either. If you simply use Marriott.com, not logged in to your Bonvoy account, it works.

I followed your instructions (Marriott.com and not logged in) and was successful. This makes absolutely no sense and no one would know how to do it without your instructions. I received my pre-arrival email last week and provided my husband's Bonvoy number when I filled it out, but they did not attach it. Usually in the past that would work. MVC never ceases to amaze me with their wonky goings on.

I just found this thread and tried the above instructions. It worked a bit differently for me but my Bonvoy number was successfully added. After searching the reservation #, my name came up with the reservation, but there was no box for adding/changing anything as shown in dioxide45's screenshot. I was not logged in and was asked for my password. Once my password was added, the option appeared to add my Bonvoy # and make changes to the reservation.

The field to add your Bonvoy number is there, you just need to click the little arrow to expand the guest information section to get what I showed in my screen shot in post #27. Good to also know that it works if you log in after looking up the reservation.

It actually makes perfect sense, because MVC does not want people adding their Bonvoy # to II reservations. This is a loophole, that eventually will be gone once MVC sees this and other threads, and figures out how to fix it. Then no one will be able to do it.

Hence I have refrained from posting the workaround. For those who reached out to me privately, I have instructed them how to do so.

The option should always be there to add it at checkin. Oddly we've kinda come full circle again. If they are truly trying to block said loophole, they open one hole when they plug another. For a long time adding it by calling Bonvoy Customer Service simply hasn't been an option. We now have two reports in this thread where people called and the customer service rep added it.

Why do you think they don't want Bonvoy numbers against II reservations?

Why do you think they don't want Bonvoy numbers against II reservations?
Because they have been shutting down all avenues to do so and MVC and Marriott reps started telling people it is not allowed.

Why do you think they don't want Bonvoy numbers against II reservations?
Because any benefit to us is a cost to them. The more nights we accumulate through our timeshare stays, the fewer nights we need to stay at a Bonvoy property in order to qualify for rewards. Marriott management doesn't care if they piss off customers in order to reduce expenses.

Why do you think they don't want Bonvoy numbers against II reservations?
I think the ability to obtain Elite Night Credits on an II exchange has always been a bit of a gray area. Up until sometime around 2008, I don't think getting ENCs for timeshare stays was officially part of the Bonvoy (then Marriott Rewards) rules. With that, most owners were able to get ENCs by attaching their number to a reservation. The same was true of Interval International stays. You could often get credit if you added your number to the reservation. This was achieved through a multitude of methods over the years that has changed every way till Sunday. Call in, add it online, add it at checkin. When one method was cut off, another option existed. Then the one that was cut off was perhaps opened back up again. Add it online, can't add it online. Add it on the phone, then they stopped doing that. On the phone was sometimes based on the actual customer service rep you got. So sometimes you played customer service roulette.

While their terms didn't explicitly indicate ENCs for timeshare stays all those years ago, most owners and guests could get them because their systems really couldn't tell the difference. Or they weren't willing to put in the time to stop it. Thus, and I can't remember the exact date or year, around 2008 Marriott Vacation Club sent out an email saying that timeshare stays using your Marriott Vacation Club ownership would be eligible to earn Elite Night Credits. I am paraphrasing there because I don't have that email anymore. There was confusion at the time around what was actually eligible for ENCs and what isn't. Is exchanging through II using your Marriott Vacation Club ownership. Is someone using a non Marriott Vacation Club deposit to exchange into Marriott the same?

That gray area still exists today. More so, perhaps, for non Marriott and Vistana owners. This is what the current Bonvoy Terms & Conditions say;

Vacation Club Members will earn Elite Night Credit for a Qualifying Stay at MVC Club and VSE Resort properties, and for stays at Participating Properties as part of the Abound Exchange Program.

The problem is that Qualifying Stay isn't really defined when it comes to timeshare stays. The verbiage all seems to be written for hotel based cash or points stays. Then there is a definition of a non-qualifying rate. Is II a tour operator?

The guest room was booked through a tour operator, online travel channel or other third-party channel including, without limitation, expedia.com, hotwire.com, priceline.com, orbitz.com, booking.com, travelocity.com;

Because any benefit to us is a cost to them. The more nights we accumulate through our timeshare stays, the fewer nights we need to stay at a Bonvoy property in order to qualify for rewards. Marriott management doesn't care if they piss off customers in order to reduce expenses.
I don't think it is for this reason. There has never to my knowledge been an issue adding the Bonvoy # at check-in for II exchanges. Whether you get nights or not is a separate issue.

Their current system of being able to change Bonvoy #s just with reservation info and no login is a security nightmare. These changes seemed to occur after many reports of people getting other people's folios via email because their Bonvoy # remained after an exchange, and similar issues such as other people's stays showing up in Bonvoy account, etc. Also, Marriott is more generally cracking down on changing names for renters, etc.
