Long story short we had to last-minute cancel 9 days on Kauai. The result was 4600 points expiring this year and limited to a 60 day reservation window. Neither we nor any family can use the points. It’s my understanding they can’t be sold. At this point I’d rather gift them to another Marriott owner than let them just evaporate. I don’t know how that would work but I’m betting the knowledge is here. If this is doable, and if I get multiple requests, I haven’t determined how I will decide who the lucky winner is. This is not a scam. Weeks owner since 2000 and points since 2021. (If there is a way for me to get some cash value, please advise. Not counting on it.)

We would love them
Good luck 🍀

First look into what you can do with those holding points. Log into MVC and use Chat to chat with a live person who will cut and paste your options.

I’ve just learned that the “hold” points cannot be transferred, but I can make a reservation and let someone else use it. Based on that I’m going to approach my local social circle and surrounding community since they don’t have to be owners. FYI availability before year end is limited. We found nothing in Mexico or the Caribbean and only one suitable suite in all of Hawaii. Whoever wants to utilize my gift will have to be willing to go to just about any part of the world we find available.

See my response to pennytx.

I’m saying there are other non traditional MVC resort uses that may be available to you. Booking Marriott hotel rooms may be one. Buying travel insurance for future years, etc, etc. It’s worth asking for your options.

Can they turn your points into gift certificates that you could use in the future?
You might want to try that

Dioxide …. Do you have advise?
Rick abd Cindy ?
You guys know a lot

Resort credit? But I think you need an existing reservation.

There are non-traditional ways to use the points but they expire this year so no options for us.

How can we help you? You have a lot invested obviously
What can we do, this is a lovely network of kind people
Have you called Marriott?
Reached out to the most informed people here?
Dioxide and Rick and Cindy …they have decades of experience and are kind and helpful

No need for behind the scenes messaging- the options are all clearly outlined.
OP can use the points for one of the options he was given when he chatted with MVC.
Or he can book something and rent that out.
There are no gift cards or magic ways to save the points and holding points are especially limited.
