I have been looking at resale for platinum weeks.
Flying has become very expensive and we can drive there from AZ. I’m nervous if we only buy 1 floating platinum week, we will have trouble booking it since many people own multiple weeks there or deeded weeks.

I am flexible with dates and honestly don’t mind June or August since I’m guessing there will be less kids.

It looks like every rental I see is listed for over $4000 during the summer months at NPC. However, I have read that people make a couple hundred dollars over their maintenance fees which doesn’t make sense based on listings.

Thank you!

Platinum season at NCV is VERY competitive because platinum season runs all the way to the end of December- but July and August are the months that most people want. Early June is much easier to get- it even shows up in Interval.

You have to remember that listing prices are just asking prices. Some people may get that much or close to it for summer if they hold out and renters are desperate, but that seems very high.

For usage I have found that late July and into August are easier to reserve that early and mid-July. Like you we want to get out of the heat, so even August works for us.

Gold weeks and Platinum weeks outside of summer generally have a lower rental value.

June is easier to book, but you should be aware of the June Gloom phenomenon, which is a common occurrence in that specific area.

Newport Coast rentals - there are lots available and I think you can get Platinum summer weeks for less than you think. $450 or less per night is a good benchmark. You can also avoid Friday and Saturday nights and pick up some June/July deals on 5 night rentals for under $300 per night. I recommend you consider spending 5 nights at the resort and then pick up a couple of lower priced nights at a hotel near something else you want to see - Disneyland, Magic Mountain, beach areas, etc.

We own at NCV (and drive from Utah for the same reason). We have owned a resale deeded week for 6 years now and we have never had an issue getting a July or August week, if that is what you are looking for. June is easy to get.
They are all the same amount of "Busy" at the resort. We've also been in January and October and we really loved October. The only downside was it gets dark earlier - but the resort wasn't busy and neither were the beaches! This year we are hoping to go in November to try it out.
We actually love it so much we just bought a 2nd resale deeded week! Definitely exciting! Good luck! Totally worth the cost!

Are the pools there heated? I thought of going in November. Going in September but will be in the area in November.

In my opinion Marriott Vacation Club built a real winner in Newport Coast Villas.

June can equal June Gloom along the coast in Newport, so beware.

I’m sensing that there are an increasing number of multiple week, Newport Coast Villas owners, who string multiple, peak summer weeks in a row (some who occupy some of their weeks, and rent other weeks). If you buy a platinum week or two, my best advice, if you want to vacation at NCV in July or August, is that you have reasonable expectations with your reservation success. Remember, if you are reserving consecutive or concurrent weeks, you must reserve them by phone, you cannot reserve them at the MVC website, and when you call MVC Owner Services to reserve those weeks, you are competing with owners at other resorts, who are doing the same thing.

Personally, I just don’t think rental is a worthy endeavour, with (very) few exceptions.

We think Marriott’s Newport Coast Villas is a very special place, heaven in Orange County.

Oh, driving will spare you the agony of LAX, although we love flying into and out of Orange County/John Wayne Airport, but, fares are expensive. Similarly, to avoid LAX, we are now flying into and out of Hollywood/Burbank, a much more pleasurable experience (but, not convenient to NCV).

We flew in and out of Long Beach for our trip to NCV for Christmas and it was fantastic! Probably the easiest airport I have ever flown in and out of!! The only downside for me was that National does not offer Emerald Aisle there. I much prefer that option to pick any car I want- but other than that shortcoming Long Beach Airport was super easy!! (And for us it was the cheapest SoCal option as well!)

I regularly trade into NCV via II. I got a June 13 check in for next year with a Manor Club studio and it didn't require and ongoing search. I know that I may get some June gloom, but that's okay. The second half of August is usually pretty easy to get also. July is very difficult. I also have gone in early November and twice in February. Weather was wonderful on those visits. Hope that helps you think about whether it's worth buying.

This fall and winter might be different with La Nina visiting, predicted to be wetter. We are already seeing overcast days and scattered showers in August, still we don't mind paying the premium to live here on the OC Coast.

With a studio? Wow. That surprises me. NCV seems to almost never be available when I search with my Orlando studios- usually takes a 1-bedroom.

I’ll 2nd that Long Beach is a very easy airport and fares are usually much cheaper than John Wayne or LAX.

Definitely easier. However, cheaper will likely depend on where you are flying from. From all the major airports in Texas, LAX is cheaper and has the most direct flights.

Yes the pools are heated. We go multiple weeks a year from Oct - March.

Does this resort have 1 in 4 rule? I know RCI does for many popular resorts.

We would only be purchasing 1 floating week. Less expensive than a deeded week.

Did you mean to say less expensive than a fixed week?

What is the 1 in 4 rule?
MVC trades on II so not familiar with RCI

You mean not everyone is flying out of Reno? I guess I had a moment of getting stuck in my own little world!
