I tried to change a reservation from 1 resort to another and noticed that there are no other resorts listed at the bottom of the screen as before. Does anyone have similar experience? Or HGVC changed reservation change policy recently? By the way, the reservation is for March 2026, so it is well out of the 60-day change window

It should open the booking screen to then browse to the property and dates

The change screen just kept spinning, spinning, then came out a warning: "the reservation could not be changed. Please contact a member experience specialist". It is very frustrating.

Where is the current reservation?

While I haven’t experienced that error, on a number of occasions I have encountered an error once I chose my new resort.

Usually though not always when trying to change to/from a resort that is ‘special’ in some way - bHC, affiliate, 186 day booking window, etc.

Cannot you just cancel and rebook? What is special about “change”?

That is an option, but you will lose your reservation fee (if required) and the cancel protection fee, if purchased. Plus, someone else will be able to book those dates while you are waiting for the inventory to show back up on the web.

did you try calling in? They have made some edits for me over the phone.

Mostly. There's a few instances where you cannot change into a resort.

I believe last year (?) I had a Hawaii reservation that I was trying to change (well before the 60 days for that check-in) to NYC and the system wouldn't let me do it. I had to call in and they couldn't do it either. Had to cancel the existing reservation (lost the booking fee AND CP fee) and had to book it new. They did waive the booking fee (one time courtesy) but wouldn't/couldn't waive the cancellation protection fee. I believe this "feature" is unique to the NY properties, but I could be wrong (not sure if it'll let you change into say, Mexico, or the Affiliate resorts).

But your question was whether you cancel and rebook via the website. CSR can waive the fee for an issue with the website. My response in post #6 is still valid. True, change is free as > 60 days.

The previous reservation was at Elera, a HGVC resort. I tried to change floors up to the new Elera Club floor and encounter the error. I called HGVC CS today and got reservation changed. However, CS mentioned that sometimes, system blocks reservations if it thinks owners booked too many times at the resort. I only stayed at Elera 3 times this year.

I’m fairly sure it’s because the change is between a HGVC and bHC resort…I’ve run into that issue a couple of times.
