Hi all,

My hubby and I attended a Vacation Resorts RCI presentation yesterday in Orlando.. We foolishly signed up for a timeshare.. 1st time, did not do research.:((
Anyway, we want to get out of this thing NOW, within the cancelation period, before it's too late.

How do I go about doing this?
Thanks so much for all help

There should be information in your paperwork about where to send the rescind letter. It doesn't take much to resind, just a sentence or two. Don't call anyone at the resort to rescind.

You can get a timeshare free, no need to buy from a resort.

What resort was it?

Good job. Rescind. Time is of the essence. You do not need to give a reason but have all contract signers sign the letter stating to rescind/cancel the contract # signed on date and that you are in the rescission period. Please refund all deposits. Date the letter in the rescission period. Send it to the instructions on your contract.

Follow it exactly. Track it in mail and keep proof you sent it. You can also snail mail and email for good measure but make sure you follow the method in the contract.

Vacation Village at Parkway in Orlando..
Just seems like it would be more complicated.. Think I'm over thinking it😏

How do we find the free ones? We are completely new to this.

Thanks for your help.. 🙂

@Rexiesgang After you rescind and before you take a free one (they will always be there), perhaps you should spend some time on TUG and shop around. There are many good systems some easier to exit than others e.g. the Hotel brands Westin, Marriott, Hilton.

1) Rescind
2) Research
3) Rent timeshare to try different systems
4) (buy) Resale

There is a questionnaire in the Buy/Sell forum which you can complete on where you want to travel so we can more effectively assist you.

How much did they want you to pay? You just missed a bullet.

Resale timeshares are great. Developer are not.

There is a FREE timeshares forum here on the BBS in a thread titled FREE Timeshares. There are also some free timeshares in the classified ads.

You can certainly fill out the newbies form here on TUG.

Welcome and congratulations on rescinding an overpriced timeshare. What were you paying and what were you getting?

We paid around $10,000 and got 2 weeks and a bonus week, but I'm confused, because then they were saying we could go anywhere anytime?? So it sounded like we had unlimited weeks.
We had buyers remorse pretty soon after..
Thanks for the help, I'll definitely check the free ones.. Right now we use Airbnb, but they can get pricey..

Thanks for the Information and your help 🙂. I'll definitely check it out!
We paid around $10k.. I kept reading the horrible reviews, that's what made us think twice.. Should have done our research first, but we weren't planning on buying one.. I guess nobody really is at these things 😏

The salespeople were lying to you, because they always do that. It doesn't matter what they told you.

Make sure to send rescission paperwork *exactly* as specified. If by US Postal Service, which most are, registered mail, signature required -- in case you need proof they received it later.

Congrats on an excellent decision to rescind.

If they were selling RCI Points, this is not really two weeks. It's a number of points that may get you two weeks of vacation. How many points for $10,000?

You know, they didn't say a word about points, at all.. I started seeing people talking about points when I started researching this last night..

Timeshares are wonderful, but why pay anything, when you can get the same thing for $0?

I am very happy for you that you found TUG. Consider joining TUG for $15 per year and you can see Sightings/ Distressed. Keep asking questions. Do you know you can buy several Marriott or Sheraton weeks resale for $10K, and that is almost always my recommendation to friends and family for a purchase. You cannot go wrong with a platinum Marriott or Gold Plus Sheraton Broadway Resort (or Sheraton Desert Oasis).

I am not a big fan of RCI.

... they were saying we could go anywhere anytime??
Trading out somewhere else is a case of supply and demand. Most (smart) people buy where they want to vacation almost all of the time. If someone doesn't give up their week and rather uses it themselves, then you obviously can't stay there. The more popular the week, the area, and the resort, the less likely you are to be able to get it when you want it. First, there's a good chance the owner of that week may be using it. Secondly, they may be renting it out. Third, if it becomes available through the management company or through an exchange company, there may be 10 other people in line who've requested that week. Some of them may have higher priority due to the value of their home resort or due to the fact that they requested it before you did. That said, I've gone all over the U.S. and to timeshares in the Caribbean on exchanges (and mostly excellent exchanges), but I don't count on that. We have three timeshares, and we usually stay at them because we love those resorts and the areas in which they're located. To "go anywhere anytime" implies that there are lots of resort weeks just sitting around empty, waiting for you to request them. Common sense will tell you that resorts could not stay afloat financially if that were the case.
