Does anyone know if it's true if I rent a Royal Sands Cancun villa from an owner, the resort will make me pay for the AI?

We went to the Royal Sands this year, family of four, we paid $5,200 for a villa for 6 nights with AI. While on property we met an owner who wants to rent their villa to us next year. We want togo that route as the price would be $2,000. However, during the timeshare sales presentation we were told if we rent a villa from an owner we will be obligated by the resort to get the AI, which we don't exactly know the cost but heard it to be $139 per adult. We have a child that would be 5, so not sure of the price, but heard it would be lower. If the AI would be mandatory that may defeat the purpose of renting from an owner. Does anyone know this to be true? Being that sales people told us this, we don't know whether to believe them or not. If that's the case, we may look into buying a tineshare on resale.

I’ve rented from an owner before and didn’t require AI. The fact that you heard that from a salesperson should tell you everything.

Not true. AI is optional if renting from a Royal Resorts owner. But AI is mandatory if booking via Interval International.

I’ve rented from an owner before and didn’t require AI. The fact that you heard that from a salesperson should tell you everything.
