Any hints for skyline tower

I tried searching the forums first before posting. Seems like elevators are the big issues. I decided to use some borrowed points for a two night stay in a few weeks at Skyline Tower before it closes. It was on sale too, so was able to use the 2k points I had left and 24k from next year.

What do I need to know about the place ? I tried calling and no answer. W/D is in a separate room right? Any idea where it is? How is the fitness center ? I plan on bringing my laundry so I don’t have to do it at home that week. Might as well make the most of my stay! But I am concerned about traveling up and down the tower given what I’ve read about the elevators. Any hints or tips ?

Looks like it’s walking distance to the hard rock.

The elevators are slow and small. I think the biggest problem was if you were on a lower floor, there could be a problem if you're checking out mainly on a Saturday or Sunday. Every time the elevator stopped it would be full and you couldn't fit in with luggage.

The last time I was there they had an electronic keypad where you entered what floor you wanted and how many people were in your party. Then the elevator algorithm would figure out the best routing. I don't know if these are new or not, and the elevator issue didn't come up for me because the last time I was there was in December last year and it wasn't very crowded. Don't know about the laundry situation and I certainly know nothing about a fitness center!

Thanks. I will be checking in late on a Sunday night and checking out either Monday PM or Tuesday AM depending on work schedule, so hopefully I'll avoid any elevator issues! But I do plan on bringing my laundry so I don't have to do it at home that week!

I was thinking to bring some cigars since it is AC, but I assume there is no smoking outside the balconies like most Wyndham places? The only place I really ever smelled people smoking was New Orleans , and I would smell it in the hallway.

The only other thing that was different was that I had to use my key card to leave the garage as well as to enter. I wondered how that would work after I checked out as I always turn in my key and even if I kept it, I guess it could be deactivated . So I pulled my car out onto the apron before I walked back in to check out. There wasn't a lot of room but I wasn't blocking anyone. So ask about that when you go.

Definitely no smoking on the balconies.

The elevator issue is because people don’t read the instructions. You need to hit the button for every person in your party and count pieces of luggage as additional people in your party. If you hit it a whole lot of times you’ll get an empty elevator eventually even if the other people from other floors aren’t following the directions. That’s the trick.

I'm currently I. Atlantic City Skyline.

All laundry, pool, gym and sales are on the 6th floor. My husband has no issue doing laundry in the mornings. Machines are free.

Parking is self parking BUT to use luggage cart only a bellman can use. So best advice pull in front, register and get hang tag. The hang tag now QR code to scan to get in and out of garage. We parked and took our bags ourselves from the parking garage which is floor 3. In doing so, we avoided the " concierge ".

Concierge is ruthless here, including chasing you back to car ( in the past). However, at check in today, I went right back out the front door with hang tag to park the car. Concierge yelled at us to inquire if we had just checked in. We responded yes and just walked right back out the front door to park our car. Not a peep since then. No need for waste time and energy on bands when you're given room key cards at check in.

We cane for a concert at 7pm and at check in the room was ready. That was smooth.

Great, thanks. So as long as I follow the directions, the elevators won't be an issue? I really don't want to wait half an hour for an elevator as everyone is saying on the reviews. I assume checking in at 10pm would likely not lead to an elevator issue.

Thanks. From the looks of the booking page, the resort seemed to be pretty full. Are you having nay elevator issues? I assume gym is 24 hours with a key card? Debating about using treadmill at my gym here before I drive down from Rockland County, NY, or going when I get there and throwing a load of laundry in as I work out (also assuming laundry is 24/7).

No luggage to bring other than my week old gym clothing, so not much of a deal killer for me.

Depending who comes with me or if I'm solo, I may do an update if the price is right if the "concierge" asks. But I likely won't be seeing them anyway since it will be late when I get in Sunday night. I really have nothing to do Monday other than walk around the boardwalk, maybe Hard Rock for some craps, and work out and laundry. I am literally going down there to see the place before it closes, and burn some borrowed points off that may or may not be here next year.

The key is the elevator software routes based on the number of people hitting the button. In other words, if the elevator has a max capacity of 12, and a party of 4 hit the button once on floor 15, then a party of 5 hits it once on floor 12, then a party of 4 hits it once on floor 11, then you hit it once on floor 10, it’s going to be full when it gets to you because it “thinks” it has less people than it actually does.

At a minimum the instructions say you should hit it once for each person and each piece of luggage in your party. However, if you do that and you are still finding that it is coming to you full on checkout day, then just hit it like 12 times. That ensures the software will eventually send you a completely empty elevator because that’s you telling it you have a party of 12 and need enough space for that 12. That means it won’t first allow all those party of “1’s” (who are really party of 4’s) in the same group as you.

The gym is 24/7

The gym is 24/7 with key cards. The resort is definitely busy but had no issue with the elevators.

Interesting, it's been a few years since we've been there but the self-parking is new - it was only valet parking the last time we were there. Makes sense that they would switch to self-parking as it's likely less expensive not having to staff the valet parking function. Does anyone happen to know when they switched to a self-parking model?

Curious, was it a young lady at the concierge desk? I cannot recall her name but she was originally down in Myrtle Beach and was instrumental in introducing us to Wyndham via a small travel shop in the Broadway at the Beach location. Wish I could remember her name.

@Arimaas on an unrelated note, there's a topline Italian restaurant at Resorts Casino right next to the Skyline Tower resort. They used to serve a Sunday buffet style brunch there that was one of the best we've had over time. I don't see it listed on the Resorts website any longer however, but the dinner menu was wonderful as well, though not cheap by any means - perhaps give them a call about brunch as it may be a seasonal item: https://resortsac.com/restaurants/fine-dining/capriccio/ I recall the brunch being around $50 per head plus taxes, but that was several years ago now so even if they have it, I'd expect the price to have risen since we've last been there. For a more run of the mill diner food type experience, Perry's Cafe is right down the street from the resort, just be aware it's not a huge location and it fills up quickly especially on weekends.

Thanks. Other than White House Subs, I had no food plan, so this is helpful.

Definitely no shortage of restaurant selection within all of the casinos in the area. I love mexican food, so the Casa Taco and Tequila bar at the Tropicana casino was a frequent stop for us. There's also a Phillips seafood restaurant on the pier along with several other restaurants that have good views. Lots of food choices depending on what you and yours like.
