Embarc ( Club Intrawest) was bought out by DRI, Then of course Hilton Vacations bought DRI and converted most ( not all) resorts to HGVC. BUT at this time it seems that Embarc points can only be used at the Embarc resorts. If I buy my sister's embarc points (9000 ) are there any different restrictions on those points vs my embarc points?

BTW Embarc points have a significantly wide range of price /points. I've seen on Redweek , someone selling 7500 pts for $100 and others selling 7500 pts for $2,000 and someone else 9000 pts for $3,000.

@cd5 should be able to help answer those questions.

I think generally speaking for timeshares you can assume the lowest price among equal items is most likely the "real" market price. Plenty of people list things at prices more in line with what they paid and less in line with what they can expect to get selling now.

Look at this post:

We have a very active community on FB but only Embarc members can join us.
The main group is at www.facebook.com/groups/clubintrawestowners and once admitted, access to the sister "ads" group (rentals and sales) is automatic. Of course that is no help for someone who isn't yet an Embarc member...if you know an Embarc member they can solicit in the group for you.
If you give me some contact info such as an email and how many points are desired, I can post in the ADS group for you.

Bill, Embarc members can freely join Interval and SFX Resorts to exchange. RCI is a no-go unless you were already grandfathered when Embarc was in that, and you kept the membership. There are no restrictions for resale points since Extraordinary Escapes seems to be being phased out and Hilton isn't separating developer points from resale points for non "EE 2.0" members. We also have access to 4-5 European locations belonging to Diamond without going through any exchange system, they are available same way as our own 9 resorts.
Should you take her points, they would simply be combined with yours and you can use them seamlessly. How much the points go for depends on timing and whether some unused annual points are included. In our group, the unused points are sold at cost (16¢ us or 21¢ cad) plus the membership itself can go from "free" (if it's October, November, December) if the annual fees are unpaid and the member wants to offload quickly, up to 50¢ cad per membership point if it's something like an Advantage membership (fixed week/s in fixed unit at Zihuatenajo). Average price for a membership mid-year seems to hover around 25-30¢ cad per point.
Positive changes are coming concerning DEX in a few months as well, stay tuned!

Is there any advantage of buying my SIL points vs from a stranger on the internet. ie don't have to worry about ROFR ect

Club Intrawest did have ROFR in their contract in 2001 I assume that Embarc still has that. Does anyone know if sales to family are exempt from ROFR.

My SIL wants $5,000 for her 9000 pts

Hilton has not been exercising ROFR on Embarc points in quite a while. There is no real advantage to buying from family vs a stranger. $5000 usd seems high unless there's unused/paid points in the deal as well. In our FB group the unused points go for the fees cost per point in addition to the membership transaction itself (which is negotiated between members).
We have a FB group specifically for sales/rental to/from other members which can be accessed once you join the main group at www.facebook.com/groups/clubintrawestowners

Just back from Whistler, the official sale price of Embarc points is just under $7/pt with a minimum purchase of 6000 pts . But we were offered points at the 30th anniversary price of $5/pt for 6000 pts.

BTW They said that they don't wave ROFR for any owner transfers except "gifts" of ownership (like you may have in transfer between relatives). BUT they didn't say that they were actively using ROFR.

Not true. They haven't exercised ROFR since Hilton took over. You can get memberships for much less than $5 per point. They go for less than a dollar/pt usually and sometimes include unused points.
