We’ll be at WKORV-N for the first time. Have been to MOC a few times, but this time the grandsons are coming . They’re 11 and almost 15, so trying to organize the trip around 3 generations.

A few questions- I know there was mention of an on site luau one day and being able to see it from the pool. What day is that? Already doing luau during 3 days in Waikiki beforehand so don’t want to book another, but watching the show from the pool could be nice and we can work dinner reservations around that.

One of the activities that seemed culturally unique and thought it’d be fun is the outrigger canoe rides. I know there’s one right in front, but that accommodates 4 max so we’d have to split up, but they said they’d do it adjacent to each other. The other leaves from the Westin hotel area, and that can accommodate 5. Anyone do either of these and have feedback to share? Is it a fun excursion and is one better than the other?

Lastly, we’re going on one of the water bike excursions. Last trip did it from Lahaina area but this time from the Wailea area, which should be even better since it’s amongst the turtles. Anyway, my foodies really want to go to Humble market for dinner so would appreciate good ideas to do in the Wailea-Kihie area. Last time we were in Wailea spent hours walking the beach walk and enjoying the ambiance/hotels but my daughter and grandsons are more into activities. They’d love to surf but don’t see anyone doing lessons in Kihie in the afternoon (please let me know if anyone does afternoon surfing). Looking at activity highlights from late morning to dinner time. And maybe a decent beach locker area to change for dinner, but worst case we can change in a bathroom somewhere.

Appreciate the suggestions!

PS - any other great things to do that your kids loved? They’re not into huge car rides and for the Road to Hana or going to Haleakala. I know there’s great snorkeling right in front and booked one of those from shore snorkeling excursions. And plan on going to the Iao needle, chocolate tour, explore Paia area (any recs in the area there for the guys to spend two hours while my daughter and I make the resin charcuterie boards at Kai Luna Creations other then heading to the beach and likely playing ball)?

Some of our highlights:

The Kapalua Coastal Trail is amazing (and we jumped into the water at the end)!
Helicopter tour (we did tour over Molokai/West Maui)
Whalers Village (restaurants/shops/beach)
Walk the beach path North past Duke's to the end then thru parking lot to Food trucks
Jumping off Blackrock

You didn’t mention surf lessons at the Marriott - my boys around that age loved doing that. We spent 3 weeks in Maui during the pandemic with boys that age and the highlights were kayaking, surfing, zip lining, hiking, snorkel boat (Trilogy is always amazing). Deep sea fishing was a bust, my older son enjoyed the road to Hana tour, we split up because younger son and myself get way to carsick for that adventure.

There was always parasailing but must admit we didn't see it in January so maybe they folded after Covid/the fire?

Whatever you decide on pack a fat wallet or plenty of credit on your cards because for some reason the de-facto costs of all activities seems to be in the $175-$250pp range

I don't know whether to laugh or cry, but sadly so very true. And with 5 people...

Oh that's a given. Any recs for the surf lessons? We'll be in Waikiki 3 days beforehand and already squeezing lessons in there as well.

We just went with our grandkids in February. They love the beach and snorkeling so we spent every morning snorkeling in the afternoon at the pool of choice among the three resorts.
The outriggers in front of the resort are phenomenal. Everyone who's ever done them loves them.
Parasailing is available in the summer, but not when the whales are there. I love parasailing and my kids do too so that might be an option.
I don't know about your grandkids, but mine appreciated some downtime because being in the sun all day can take its toll even though we're from SoCal. We would walk up to the shave ice place by the snorkel store or over to the food trucks for snacks. We would walk to Whalers and then take the shuttle back

We have used Ka’anapali surf club in front of the Marriott several times over the years but it has been a while. The area isn’t really known for surfing but it was enough for my inexperienced boys to enjoy and we got some great (expensive) photos of them standing up. They liked it enough to do it twice over the years but I doubt anyone from California would think it was great surfing. We had a great instructor who we used over several years sorry I can’t remember his name.

If you are there in the summer, I think Ka’anapali still has waver runners which my boys enjoyed also.

I believe the on-site luau has ended and doesn't happen there any more, but probably someone can confirm.

Someone posted on another thread recently that it's now happening by the koi ponds so the bar can stay open for guests. Seems like a tight space to me.

I've used the outrigger at WKORV-N a couple of times and they have been great. Jamie, the owner, has been there a long time. He used to man the front desk when WKORV first opened. He is truly local.

Regarding the luau, you can watch it from the lobby or anywhere around the pon outside of the downstairs restaurant are. Here's the text message I got when I was there in early May:
