We just purchased with Marriott. We were told there is a 24 yr cancellation without fees or penalties. I am reading the rules for reservations. I am seeing cancellations have to happen 61 or more days out, then there is a fee. 60 or less a fee then other penalties. What is the real deal on cancelling reservations at the Marriott resorts on points system?

What did you purchase?

Are you talking about a home week reservation?
An interval week exchange?

A point reservation?
There is no fee for cancelling a points reservation - less than 60 days points go into a restricted holding account.

Have a look at the info for whatever you bought in the pink section at top.

You spent thousands of dollars and don't know what you bought. What you should know is most of what the salesperson told you were lies or half-truths. You should cancel (rescind) immediately.

I read the reservation rules. That is what it said 61 days no fees. 60 or less fees. This is the points program. . The salesman lied. Then there more rules when it went into the restricted holding account that is a bunch of mumbo jumbo. The other person who responded is right. Reading all the rules around reservations etc., this thing is going to be hard to use. We own another points program and it's not as complicated or restrictive.
Thank you for responding.

You are right. We own another points program. Read the reservation rules etc., after purchase because knew we have the option get out. Knew there were gonna be gotchas, but this is a bit too much. Thank you for your reply.

There are no fees to cancel an Abound Club Point reservation. There are restrictions if you cancel within 60 days of travel, but no monetary fees.

Please cancel immediately, then come back if you want to discuss the program.

If you make a Club point reservation within 60 days of check in, and then immediately cancel it, is there any grace period like 24 hours or does everything come back restricted?

Technically true in saleman speak. They are defining fees or penalties as money. There is no monetary cost to cancel late.
You still have the points and you can still make reservations just with limitations.
Intentionally misleading, absolutely.
Sort of like when they say resale points are restricted vs developer points.
That is technically true, you could buy resale points and not pay that enrollment fee and have super restricted points.
Of course everyone who buys resale pay that junk fee but the salesman is just being intentionally misleading not completely lying.

I don't think there is a 24 hour grace period, but I haven't verified that to the Abound Exchange Procedures. This would be unlike Vistana Flex and StarOptions which allows for a 24 hour cancellation without penalty. We even did this many years ago in Cancun when we had to extend a trip. Booked Cancun Resort & Spa on short notice and cancelled the next day (within 24 hours) and the StarOptions were returned without restrictions.

You read incorrectly- where do you think you see this? What fee do you think you see?
As Dioxide and I have told you no fees to cancel Abound points reservations.
If you cancel less than 60 days points go into a holding account and can only be booked 60 days in advance- but you don’t pay fees, don’t lose the points, expiration date stays the same.

And yes you need to read mumbo jumbo and learn how to use the program but it’s not that complicated- I guarentee only a small percentage of owners are geniuses and we all manage.
It's a saleman‘s job to sell so they are surely going to make everything appear wonderful which is why it’s best to educate yourself before making a purchase. But the gotcha for you is not how the program works but that if you bought directly from MVC you paid double what you would have resale.

If you can’t recind, read the pink stickies and then come back with specific questions. The chat on the MVC site is a great tool too. Good luck- you will get some great vacations with your points. Enjoy your ownership.
