We've never been to this resort. Is there a big difference between the two room types? As it stands today, I don't think I can get the full view for our entire week, so I'm wondering if it's a big enough difference to justify moving rooms after 3 days in the partial view room.

Thoughts?

There are three types of rooms, ocean front (parallel to the beach in tower 1), ocean view, and standard. Look at the ocean oak post by @GT75 to get all the info, https://tugbbs.com/forums/threads/hgvc-detailed-resort-affiliated-information.254931/#post-1997600

We try to stay in ocean front. OV and standard just depend on the rooms...5th floor standard in Tower 1 toward the OF rooms, are just as good at the OV rooms above them on the 6th floor. OV rooms in Tower 2 would be okay but standard rooms have mainly a view of the courtyard so it just depends on which room you get.

While I haven't stayed in a plus room (partial ocean view), it would be my 3rd choice. The ocean view is fantastic and we think the standard room is nice as well. It all depends on how much stuff you have to move, but that ocean front room is great, especially the higher floors.

there aren't partial OV...just OF, OV, and standard. Well, I guess that they call it a partial ocean view...but it is really just OF, OV, and standard.

I'm currently in 1505 at Ocean Oak, and I think I'd certainly count it as ocean view. But it's a standard 2BR. I got it by requesting a set of standard but OV rooms a week ago by e-mail. Very happy.

I'm preparing my TUG2 review now.

yes, that is a great standard room...probably one of the best...1505, 1506, and 1507...probably even the 4th floor same rooms

what email address did you send your request to?

The best standard rooms are floors 4&5 in Building 2. These are the best view. The only issue with those rooms are the suns hits you straight on in the morning. I love going out on the balcony with my morning cup of coffee and read. The sun made it difficult to do so with those rooms. Minor irritant in the grand scheme of things.

In 2022, we booked to rooms and one of them was a standard room on the 3rd floor of building 1. There's a tree that blocks the majority of the ocean view in that area. Since the partial ocean view/plus rooms are the 5th and 6th floors in building 1, it's hard to avoid.

The best standard rooms are floors 4&5 in Building 2.
We prefer the rooms closer to the water and a better view of the water. Building 2 is further back and has a primary view of the courtyard with the water in the distance over the court yard and club house.

Here is the view from 1605 or so, can't remember the exact room so 1505 would have, basically, the same view.

We actually try to stay in the OF as much as possible though

I just called 4-6 weeks ahead of the time and they honored my request the best they could.
Just depends on availability at check in...we prefer Friday check-ins and Sunday check outs. Much less crowd getting on and off the island plus at check ins, but, you also have less options for rooms because Friday's aren't the primary check in day...Saturday is.

we may drive there. what's the parking situation?

Tight. There’s parking under the rooms on the ground level and more parking along the road. There’s also parking across the street. The parking is tight under the rooms, but I did fine with a Ford Expedition Max and a full size Chevy Pickup.

I've done both OF and OV and for my money (points):
If you have it to spend, OF is definitely worth the cost.
But being somewhat frugal, I prefer OV which is nice.
.

I would suggest skipping OV rooms but I would book a OF (1st choice) and reg 2BR with a request for upper floor as second choice.

Agree 100% but only reg 2BR.

i'm curious why the partial view would be your third choice, behind the standard.

another said the same. why do you prefer standard over ocean view?

The points just aren’t worth it. I can get a decent view for less points. A slightly better view and upgraded appliances aren’t incentive to spend more points. Here is my view from the 5th floor in the 2nd building during our 2021 trip:

Still pretty good. Now, you may feel differently, but the difference just isn’t that great for me to shell out the added points. When you are stating 9 nights, the extra points add up and we only have 22,400 points to play with every year. The Premier rooms? Worth every MF dollar used.

based on the feedback here, i think i'll try to book the STD room, with an extra day of overlap, going to the OF after. if i do that, rather than OV into OF, i'll have just enough points to avoid checking out one day, and being in limbo until check-in later that day. i won't have any other use for the points this year anyway.

i appreciate everyone's input!

do request as high up as you can get for OF. The lower rooms are fine but the higher ones are a better view.

I am at OO now, and thanks to this post I got room 1405 in Tower 1 with Standard Points. I am very Happy with View and room. This is our 1st Time at OO.

Thanks Tuggers!

4rh floor in Tower 1 isn't bad, especially if you are down near the restaurant end.
