Bonvoy number messed up on II reservation, who do I call?

I pulled up an II exchange to a MVC property on marriott.com and I absent mindedly pasted the same reservation number into the Bonvoy number field. Saved. Oops. It is now blacked out and cannot make edit on the Bonvoy number. I called marriott.com and they said it's a Vacation Club reservation and they cannot change the Bonvoy number. Do I call MVC on Monday? Or should I call the timeshare property? It's for a stay in Dec 2025.

If you put your Marriott Bonvoy # in, you might be able to see it on your Marriott account. Doesn't always work that way.

You likely won't be able to fix it until checkin. I understand once the Bonvoy number (right or wrong) is entered, it can't be changed. You could try Bonvoy customer care, but I also understand they are locked out from modifying it also. Owner services may be able to help, but with it as an II exchange they may not be willing to do it.

I already tried marriott Bonvoy side and they said they cannot change. Maybe I can call the timeshare?

The resort may not even be able to see the reservation this early. I understand that they really don't get reservation details until a couple months out from checkin.

It may also be wise to tread lightly with MVC in this regard. I don't know that I would bring too much to their attention about adding Bonvoy numbers to II bookings ahead of checkin. While I know it can be done and many here, me included, add it to our reservations. I don't know that it is officially sanctioned. Earning Bonvoy ENCs on II getaways and exchanges kind of lies in a gray area IMO.

Thanks. Another way around it is to retrade it for exactly the same date at the resort. It's Christmas week so I will have to be patient.

Yes, that should also work. There is certainly some process that removes Bonvoy numbers when a week is deposited. So it can apparently be done, but I don't think reps in customer service are able to do it. The resort can certainly change it when you check in.

We once had to change from wife's # to mine. We responded to the room coordinator email (we had used previously) and they changed it. But this was a couple months before check-in. They seem to have the most power over the reservation, including combining separate reservations #s into one, etc.

Thanks! That is certainly one way to do it if they would do something about it. :)

Is just call the resort about a month in advance. They should be able to get it updated.

Have a go at messaging the Bonvoy FB page and see if they will help. They usually respond quite quickly and will ask you questions to verify your account and then they may change the Bonvoy number field. The Bonvoy phone reps can be less than knowledgeable with some things that are not straightforward.
I use them to add the Bonvoy number to my II reservations and it seems to work no problem.

The problem is that once I added a wrong number, they can't even change it.

Lookie here! After I f!@# up, I decided to deposit another studio and requested for Christmas week, not even fixing the check-in date. I just logged in, the new deposit/request has been exchanged into the same check-in date and resort. It is in "pending" confirmation. After that I will re-trade out the other week. Problem solved!

I looked again, it looks like "pending" is to ensure that my deposit exsits with MVC. Size upgrade fee has been charged! I should be good!

If you call II within 24 hrs you can likely cancel this one and retrade the existing reservations and not even have to fool with retracing.

Now they'll use some system to wipe the Bonvoy number from that week you retrade out of. There is a process to do it, it just doesn't seem like they want to do it or the people who we can talk to don't have the power to do it.

I also wonder if they don't assign these retraded weeks a new confirmation number to prevent possible confusion and the original exchanger trying to checkin. This could explain why another Tugger noticed that a confirmation number changed on their exchange.

It's going to be hard to explain to II as to why I would want to do that when it is the same resort, and check-in date.. I don't want to risk losing this new exchange. I will just retrade the other one.

If it ain't broke, no need to fix it. Glad it worked out for you. I suspect you won't make that f!@# up again?

Retrade then retrace back if it's in the corporate account then cancel the other since you're still within the 1 day limit.

I think the new trade came from an OGS, so it wasn't just sitting online to grab via a retrade. It seems the only advantage to your scenario is is having a week no longer tied up in a confirmed exchange that you need to continue to monitor?

The advantage is that if it's successful you have the other week to set up an OGS instead of worrying about a retrade.

I don't want to retrade it because once the new exchange gets released/cancelled, the week is unlikely to show up for retrade. I have no issue retrading the f!@# up week later.

If you don't care to have the second week back for an OGS then it didn't matter (too late now anyway). But for others who might be in a similar situation and have a corporate account (so no extra costs) then I think there was an excellent chance to get your first exchange where you could access your week and get your second deposit back to use for an OGS. Worst case scenario is you retraded the first week and couldn't find the unit again. In that case you have what you need with the second exchange and have to retrade using the first week which you are now going to do anyway. It's always a good feeling to have what you want/need with an exchange. I've retraded many times trying to upgrade view and in some cases retraded back into the first match because it was a better option.

I'm a Marriott Titanium member, and I always call the Titanium number (I think it's the same reservations department, you just get through to them quicker, they recognize your status, and they might be better trained) to have my MR# added to my exchanges. I give them the reservation number, they add my MR# to it, and then I can see the reservation in my Marriott account.

The last time I did that, it didn't appear in my account, but I was still able to find the reservation with the reservation#. When I looked at the details, it showed the reservation# as my MR#. THEY had messed it up. I couldn't change it.

I called back and explained the problem to the next agent. They said they weren't sure they would be able to change it, but they tried and it worked.

If you don't get someone on the first call who knows what to do, hang up and call back.
