My stepsister just sent a video of snow in Byron, Georgia. They have their woodstove going.

looks like a good old fashioned white-out. When we lived in Manhattan, we spent a week in St Aug, must have been New Yr wk I guess. No snow, but it was quite surprisingly chilly. Of course they got a foot of snow in Central Pk the day we left, so we weren't complaining. But I never had the urge to go to northern FL in the dead of winter again.

Crazy weather across the south. I just read that the snowfall (4") in Pensacola has broken state records.
The Jacksonville Airport is closing at 6pm tonight until at least noon tomorrow due to the weather.

Weather is the main reason we escape St. Augustine for January & February and are in Belize where it is in the 80'sF every day and high 60's-low 70's every night. Not as bad as our home in Ontario where our DD says about 10" of snow is falling today. Total snowfall accumulation up there for this winter is probably well over 3 feet so far.

Was supposed to drive down to Orlando yesterday we normally take I-10 to 75, wanted no part of it- flew down this morning…

I'm glad we cancelled Florida for winter.

Just saw on the news that Milton, FL (NE of Pensacola) now has over 9” snow on the ground and it's still coming down!
Shatters the old FL state record 4.0” in 1954

Meanwhile, we've only had about an inch of snowfall all winter. Very unusual for Idaho. Oh, the mountains have more- the skiers are happy. The farmers would like more to guarantee harvests, but we are upholding our long-term desert history.

I have a close friend who sent me pics from Baton Rouge. She had to express order a winter coat because she no longer owned one.

Here in north central NC, we got about .25 of an in. But it will be in the single digits tonight, so it’s not going anywhere. Schools are on a remote learning day tomorrow. I don’t think they’ve had a regular week since Christmas.

We’re in St. Augustine. No snow but I’m sick and tired of mid-30 lows and mid-40 highs. Looks like we’ll have about 3 more days of it.

Based on this, Houston barely got a sprinkle of snow, but the city was shut down yesterday and is just now getting ready to reopen. Both airports were closed yesterday, and they’ll start having planes land at 10 AM today and take off starting at 11. Lots of black ice on the roadways, especially bridges.

Decades ago, I did a December exchange to the Florida Panhandle expecting that area to be "Florida": balmy temperatures, palm trees, etc. Instead, it got to be 30 degrees at night. I talked to a local resident and New Jersey transplant as we were visiting Navarre Beach to view a hurricane-damaged pier and he told me how the residents of the area were so happy whenever it got cold (which he said it often did during the winter) because that meant that there would be less of a bug problem that year. Great for him, but not for once a year visitors.

I also learned that if you went straight east to the Jacksonville area it might be 30 degrees warmer which was, indeed, true those days.

While the amount of snow might be unusual, cold isn't.

They apparently had a massive snowball fight on Orange Beach, Alabama, close to Pensacola, yesterday.
