What happened with The Blue Whale resort in Oceanside, CA?

Twenty or more years ago, when I first got involved with TUG, The Blue Whale was a real hot topic resort. As I recall, it seemed to have fantastic trade power in the RCI weeks system.

But now it has almost entirely disappeared from discussions. I was just wondering if any old-times know what happened? Did it just become irrelevant when RCI points came out? Have their been operating issues at the resort? Special assessments? Other?

I’ve stayed there a couple of times pre Rona. I might have to take a drive on the Strand to see if it’s still operating.

Yes you can. I’ve used SFX, RCI and used Interval for the first time with my 2025 week and pulled Grand Solmar.

IIRC - there was a TUGger named Lisa DeSchryver who hyped the Blue Whale. She also often seemed to have Blue Whale units ready to sell.

I have not jumped on reserving summer weeks for the last couple years so I'm not sure what RCI gives them these days -- I believe it is about 45-50 points for a summer week studio. I reserved an October week for 2025 and it got 27 points with RCI.

I still am able to get decent RCI trades for even 2 or 3 bedroom units with what I get out of the Blue Whale RCI deposits.

I was searching for other Blue Whale info and came across this (almost) year old thread. I am a Blue Whale studio owner since 2020 and I have been depositing with RCI for the last few years. When I am lucky enough to reserve a summer week (26-30) I get 42 TPU. If I can't reserve that (they go fast) I can get 33 TPU for weeks 22-25 and 31-34. These are also fairly popular, but I've been successful in getting something in that range. Weeks 51-52 get 38 TPU, but I've never tried to reserve those. These values are for the studio. I don't know what the 1BR go for. Probably nobody is interested in this info anymore, but here it is anyway.

I have never actually stayed at the resort, or even seen it for that matter.
