So we just canceled our 2000 point purchase during 10 day recession period after learning of the resale market. I'm sure there are many threads on this topic already but wanted to know if the prices you see on timeshare point resale sites are accurate + $3/point Marriot fee, closing costs etc?

Marriott called after receiving cancelation and said it was only about 8% discount buying points on secondary market and obviously we lost the 6000 bonus points
 
The resale price needs to go through Marriott's ROFR (Right Of First Refusal) process. Anything below $3.50 to $4 is unlike to pass. If it takes $4 to pass, then you are looking at about $7 per point after Marriott's junk fees.

Only when your offer is accepted before it is submitted to Marriott for their ROFR review. So while you see someone listing $2 or $3 a point, it is unlikely to pass ROFR.
 
Good to know about the ROFR process and the fees involved. Definitely something to consider when buying points on the secondary market.

The discount is way more than 8%! The total cost of resale points is around $7/pt to pass ROFR and cover the junk fees. Marriott sells points for ~$17/pt. That's more like a 60% discount.

True, when compared to retail pricing. But Marriott now offers hybrid packages at a per point price in the $8-9 range (with lower MF's than a pure point package as well), at least for those who ask.

By doing so, Marriott has taken up bargaining on purchase price -- an admission that their retail price is just too high.

I've seen $6 PP and fees around 55¢ PP as of late.
 
We purchased 2 x Hybrid-Packages [Benefit: Enrolled Resale-Weeks + BONVOY-POINTS + BONUS-DCP]
  • 2017: 3000-DCP + Marriott Shadow Ridge 2BR-Platinum-EY [3075] = TOT-DCP 6075 $6.97/POINT
  • 2021: 2000-DCP + Marriott Canyon Villas 2BR-Platinum-EY [2950] = TOT-DCP 4950 $6.59/POINT
The implicit benefit is we ended up with 2 x Deeded-Weeks [6025-DCP] with some of the lowest Maintenance-Fees.
