Resort Fee at Los Suenos

We have used our vacation club points (Abound) to book at Los Suenos. I noticed when on the Marriott Bonvoy site today that the reservations show as vacation club exchanges but a resort fee was listed. For the week it showed we would owe over $200. I am not used to seeing a resort fee at a vacation club (an energy fee or Hawaii taxes yes). Is this just a standard thing that shows on the hotel website with the reservation, or do we have fees even though we pay dearly for ownership these days.

We were there for 10 nights back in early May. We were not charged the resort fee, but it did appear on the confirmation email similar to how you describe. My understanding is owners on a vacation club stay do not get charged the resort fee, but we get to partake in the benefits the resort fee provides. Be sure to take the golf cart guided eco tour!

Not a resort fee buta "transient occupancy tax" in Hawaii. Can be a couple hundred bucks a week. Owners and everyone else are charged this

Yes there are locations that charges taxes that are mandated by local governments. Hawaii, Aruba, St. Thomas, etc. Taxes are different from resort fees. Resort fees are just a cash grab by hotel operators. Taxes don’t go in the hotel operators pocket.

For hotels, the "resort fee" was an idea so the room rate was low, the balance was this fee. This was purely a method for the hotels to avoid paying commission to Expedia, Hotels.com, etc. for booking a room. They only pay on the base rate, not the "resort fee".

Congrats on getting in, its not the easiest. We have been 2x and are going back in Jan and I do not remember the fees using MVC points. That said, our Jan MVC rezy is for a 1 bedroom and I added (cash pay) an additional week in a studio using my Bonvoy account and code 2VC as my daughter might be able to join us. You will see that on the Bonvoy rezy that there is a resort fee.

As far as the property goes, the far end of the is in the trees. If you want more of a view, ask for a unit close to the hotel. When you get to Los Suenos, take advantage of the free golf cart tour of the property, well worth it….bring tip money.

I assume you will have a car (check out Vamos Rental Car) so plan on driving down to Manuel Antonio National Park (get a guide for the park tour) and Rainmaker Waterfalls. Check out the black sand beaches on the way down.

The marina is a short walk and well worth it…..some amazing yachts! Try The Hookup for dinner. From the Marina you can also take the Costacat tour to Tortuga island. ( https://costacatcruises.com/isla-tortuga/ )

The closest grocery store is Auto Mercado • G, 5 minutes in the car and they have a great selection of food and drink. Enjoy!

For a Bonvoy point’s reservation my guess would be yes. But your confirmation should tell you for sure.

Any time we have had a Bonvoy point reservation at a hotel with resort fees, the fees still applied. Looking at a rate on Marriott.com for the MVC side, it looks like the resort fee applies to Bonvoy point reservations.
