Destination Points - where to find balance and where to sell them?

Hi folks, I'm currently in the process of selling a friend's week, and they'd like to let go of their points as well. Do you just call up Marriot Vacation Club or login online to check your point balance? Is there a way to sell these, and are they in demand at all? Can you sell them while you're in the middle of transferring your week away?

If the points aren't in demand and if there's a chance I might get scammed, then I'll just tell my friend to forget about them.

Thanks.

Log in to the MVC account and select Vacation club portfolio down on the right, then you can select the weeks or points held. Get them to note the usage years, as club points can have varying anniversary dates and that can matter to buyers.
Yes you can sell club points for $3-4/club point, you can use Redweeks services to get some protection, but ensure that you note the fees involved.
The points will need to go to MVC for ROFR (right of first refusal). A decent closing company should be able to handle that for you.
If they have points that expire in less than 12 months, they could book something decent with those points and then try and rent it out, also on Redweek or other platforms.
The market is a bit soft at the moment, but no reason not to try.

Just for clarification, do they own a points deed separate from the week, or are you talking about points they got from electing to use their enrolled week in Abound for a specific Use Year?

It's the Marriott Vacation Club Destinations Exchange Program, so it's attached to the week but it's not the week itself. The Exchange Program doesn't transfer to the new buyer so my friend's looking to offload them.

May I clarify. What "it's attached to the week" are you talking about? If its Destinations club elected points, now called Club points, then that is quite different in relation to selling on from MVC Destinations points (now club points) that are owned in their own right.

Sorry for the confusion - their week was enrolled in the Marriott's Vacation Club Destinations Exchange Program before it was named Abound, which gave them more flexibility in how they used their week. It cost them $2-3K upfront and an annual fee of about $200-300. The ability to enroll the week in the Exchange Program (now called Abound) doesn't transfer upon resale. Apparently, my friend mentioned that there were points available as part of this program that they want to sell.

Thanks - the available points from elected weeks can be sold/rented/transferred for one-time use. There is a form that you fill out via your MVC account to transfer points to another eligible owner, it can take a few days to do. You would arrange payment for the points separately from the process that is done with MVC.
vacationpointexchange.com is one platform where this can be done or via the MVC for sale or rent Facebook pages.
Pricing tends to be around the maint fees for the Trust club points ($0.78/club point), but the equivalent price per club point may be higher or lower than that for elected points due to the different maint fees for weeks. Or they could make a booking with the club points and rent that out on one of the many timeshare rental platforms. These elected points will have an expiry date and can't be transferred if they have already been banked.

Hi folks, just a couple questions:

1. Marriott's Vacation Club Destinations Exchange Program does not transfer along with the week when it is sold to my knowledge, so that means moving forward, the original owner will not be responsible for the fees, correct?

2. If I'm selling the week for 2025, that will not affect the week already booked for 2024, correct?

3. If the original owner has banked points for use in 2025, and the week will have been sold in 2025, does the original owner forfeit the banked points?

4. Are Bonvoy points affected by the sale of a week?

1) I assume you mean dues for membership in Abound/destination club. If you no longer own enrolled weeks or points then you will not be a member and owe dues. You will lose your corporate II account too.
2) You specify what year you are selling/ what happens to previous weeks in your sales contract.
3) I’m not sure on this one- if you are no longer enrolled in/ paying dues to abound I don’t know if you would still have access to points.
4) Bonvoy points are hotel points, not vacation club. You still maintain your Bonvoy/Marriott.com account as always. Your benefit level may decrease if it was based on your MVC ownership as opposed to nights stayed. Bonvoy points themselves are unaffected.
