I did not get an email for this sale, and it is not advertised on the website, but I saw it on slickdeals.net and was able to rebook October flights with both $ and points.

Southwest Airlines is offering 20% Off select Wanna Getaway Plus or Wanna Getaway Airfares when you apply promo code MAX20 when selecting your flight for travel dates from August, 20th 2024 to November 20th, 2024. Must book by June 30th, 2024.

Did you have to cancel and rebook, or were you able to just change your existing reservation (to the same flights) and get the discount?

I had to cancel and rebook because (unlike in the past) when I hit change, my same flights were not in the choices.

For one of my trips, I only canceled one of my legs, then rebooked just that portion, because the fare on the first leg went way up since I booked.

I usually purchase Early Bird, so if I were to cancel and re-book I would lose what I paid for Early Bird. So I don't like doing that and usually won't. The savings would have to be really substantial.

Hi Luanne. I'm on a painful phone call to SWA right now. I have 3 separate flights / confirmations that I want to do this on, and on each one there's a separate companion confirmation. So... 6 changes.

First, to answer your earlier queston - I have to totally cancel and rebook. She explained to me that a promo code can only go on a new reservation, not on a change.

What we're in the process of doing is to cancel the earlyBird reservations, and those fees are going back on the credit card. Then I need to cancel all 6 flights. And then rebook them anew with the promo code. And then pay for EarlyBird.

Could they make this any more difficult? So I understand the desire to just bypass it and stay with existing reservations. If I knew what a pain this was going to be, that's probably what I'd have done. But I'm into it now.

Jackio, thank you much for making us aware of this.

It's kind of a moot point for me. I'm not flying on SW until March 2025, have no plans to fly during their current promo period. But I do check my existing flight periodically for drops in price, and just make the changes at that time.

I priced this out with the promo code with a return flight which I had booked back in May for a Nov trip and even with the promo code, it is more expensive than my original reservation.

I priced out 5 one ways I have booked. The 2 in July are much higher which is to be expected as they are within the next 16 days.
I have a round trip from BWI to ISP and one of the flights that isn't eligible for the promo code is still $18 cheaper so I repriced for the credit. The other one is the same. My final, FLL to BWI in early November, the very early flight and the very late flight are eligible under the promo and would save me $8 over my current midday flight. The midday flight isn't eligible under the promo and would be $30 more than what I booked during the previous sale.
