Incredible story of how three astronauts survived after getting lost in space more than 50 years [ago]

lol, that is a misleading title Richard, they were lost in space more than 50 years AGO.

Title looks like they were lost for 50 years. It is amazing how one word makes a difference.

Eats shoots and leaves.

Actually, they weren't "lost".

The spacecraft was in a looping orbit between the Earth and the Moon. The orbital path looks like a figure 8. It was designed that way for safety.

In order to change the orbit to be "captured" by either the Earth or Moon, they had to decelerate. In order to reenter, they had to decelerate enough not to skip off the atmosphere into space where they would have been truly lost, or too much and they would have burned up on reentry.

They weren't the only ones Lost in Space during that era.
