Hi all, We're going to be in Amsterdam May 7 -10 to see the tulips. We've never been. We're studying Rick Steve's and Lonely Planet guides. We will rely on public transportation. We're in our 70's but in good health. We would like to stay in something Charming. Not a big hotel. In a safe, beautiful location. No smoking a must. No interest in the Red Light District. Breakfast available would be a plus. Elevator would be a plus with luggage. We're flying into Amsterdam and leaving for Belgium via train. Budget is less than $300/night USD. Thanks!

We have stayed in several (sorry, I don't remember the names) in the Museumplein area. It's very close to the Rijksmuseum, and Van Gogh and others. All are 'boutique' museums with small elevators and offer breakfast- or there are nearby shops. The area is served by shared small buses from the airport at reasonable cost.

Check Kayak or Trivago

Better check your dates. Keukenhof Gardens opens Mar 21 ro May 12 in 2024, so there may not be much tulips to see when you are there.

We stayed last year in a lovely hotel called The Hoxton. It has a boutique atmosphere although not really small although we we loved it and would go back in a heartbeat. There is a restaurant in the lobby, which also functions as a lounge/gathering area which was cozy and friendly. I think it was ~300 euros/night. It was a real task finding something that inexpensive. Hotels are expensive there.

We looked in the Museumplein area but wanted to be closer into town.

I bought tickets for May 8 several months ago. We're timing this to also attend the Chelsea Flower Show in the 3rd week of May in London so I couldn't go earlier with my time and financial budget.

Was this non-smoking? I can't do smoking rooms. Allergies.

I will be in Amsterdam May 5-8, after getting off a transatlantic cruise. We are staying 3 nights in the W Amsterdam using an 85,000 cert and using points for the other 2 nights. I had considered going more budget-y for the 2 nights at Die Port Van Cleve nearby but my husband didn't want to lose the hours changing hotels.
I am hoping that the Tulips will still make it until then, but my confidence is not high.

How exciting! I have high hopes that the late tulips will wait for me. Thanks for the info.

We were in the Netherlands last year on May12-16 near the end of a three month driving trip through Europe and arrived just after Keukenhof Gardens had closed. We saw many beautiful Tulips on our way through Austria, Germany and Belgium. We ended up ordering bulbs to be sent to us in October as they recommend not buying on our trip but get fresh bulbs.

I was wondering about the possibility of ordering tulips. Thanks for that info. Where did you order from?

We were in Amsterdam in April of last year and stayed at the Pulitzer. It was lovely, right on a canal and a short walk to the Anne Frank House. A delicious breakfast was included. Not sure of the price, because it was part of a package., I would suggest checking it out on line!

I ordered the bulbs from mydutchflowers.com. You can select which bulbs you want and they also have a few different kinds of flowers. If you order 3 product you get a free dutch souvenir (a painted ceramic tulip bulb) and free shipping. They send you emails with updates on your order and how to plant and care for your tulips.

We visited Keukenhof April 28 last year from our cruise ship.
you can order bulbs there To be sent home.
just gorgeous!

It looks nice but way out of my budget. Thanks!

UPDATE: After hours of research over 30 hotels, I've ended up back at Marriott. The College Hotel Amsterdam Autograph Collection. I'm spoiled. As a lifetime Titanium member I get upgrades, extra points, breakfast and as we arrive at 8:30 a.m. after a transcontinental flight I've decided that we need something reliable with elevators. They may have a room ready by the time we get there and I know what I'm getting for the $$. Thank you all so much for your advice. Next post = Bruges, Belgium!!

We stayed at the Hotel Library Amsterdam. Two years ago it was $286 for two nights through booking.com. Probably more now, dollar went further then. We are both in our 70's. It is close to the main train station, walkable. It is on the harbor, not on a canal. I can't remember if it had an elevator. Breakfast was included as I remember. But we had been traveling from Italy, up through Germany and stayed in a bunch of hotels. After staying there for two nights we embarked on a bike and barge trip to Bruges, Belgium.

Thank you! I'm fascinated by the concept of a bike and barge tour. Can you tell us more about that?

I get upgrades, extra points, breakfast
It varies a lot, but with Autograph Collection you may only get a credit for breakfast, and the balance can be expensive.
If you haven't already done so, check with the hotel what they offer. I haven't stayed at that specific one.

That the welcome gift, not the platinum or titanium breakfast benefit either in the lounge or restaurant. I have always gotten upgraded rooms in Europe.
