Kirkland House Blend Coffee no longer Starbucks?

I stuck my coffee maker on a wifi controlled outlet. So, when I wake up, I grab my phone, switch on the outlet and lay there until I hear the maker's finishing gurgles. Then I can get up...
Don't they make coffee makers with timers on them anymore? I remember my parents using that feature back in the 80s.

Bingo. And that isn't just true for coffee. Does it matter who made your jeans as long as they fit and look good? Does it matter what timeshare you own as long as it fits your needs?
Don't tell that to Marriott and Lululemon!

I don't even use a coffee maker any more. I use a pour over method.
I switched to a French press coffee maker a few years ago. I heat the water hotter than any coffee maker; same strength per serving using less coffee. There is more counter space without a coffee maker. The French press is easily portable to take to a timeshare, where I put the coffee maker in a cabinet for more counter space.

Back in the day, I was such a snob that I wouldn't brew with a timer because that would mean I had to grind the beans the night before. So then I wouldn't be brewing with "fresh" ground beans.

Seriously.

My coffee maker doesn't have a timer and the switch is such that it won't work with a Wifi type outlet-thingy. So I think I'm stuck getting out of bed to push the button.

It's a nice OXO coffee maker that brews well with smaller quantities. Often times coffee makers don't do a great job brewing 4 cups or less.

Is Peets coffee strong or mild to the the taste buds. My cup of coffee in the morning must be strong to give me that extra kick to start my day.

Yes, they do. But when you wake up anywhere from 3:00 to 7:00 a timer doesn't help much...

The pour over coffee makers are beautiful.

Now that my husband and I are working from home most days, our coffee maker is going many times during the day. We love that the Jura grinds the beans for each cup and we adjust the strength to how each of us likes it. I will shed a tear when this one gives up on me... going strong for 5 years now. Our backup coffee makers are 2 Nespresso machines and a French press. The Nespresso was getting pricey for the amount of coffee we were drinking.
Mine isn't. I use my cup and one of those plastic cones. $5.99 on Amazon.

I had a French press. Never used it. We used to go camping with a couple and she always brought her French press maker with her. Loved that coffee.

Like Starbucks and other roasters, it depends on the quality of the bean and the parameters of the roast.

FWIW - when Howard Schulz started Starbucks at Pike Place Market in Seattle in 1971, he patterned it after Peets. The original Peets location was on the corner of Vine and Walnut in Berkeley, three blocks away from where I was working from 1977-1983. It was about 1979 when my coffee addiction hit, and I became a regular at Peets.

At that time, the big difference between Starbucks and Peets was that Schulz saw the format as something that could be leveraged on a greater scale, whereas Peets was more content to just be local, small-time operation. Hence, Starbucks became the mega-coffee shop, when it could have just as easily been Peets that became the international operation.

As much as Starbucks is now derided, Starbucks did force a significant upgrade in people's expectation of coffee. Even McDonalds puts out a vastly better cup of coffee that the junk they provided when I worked a McD's counter in high school.

BTW - responses in this thread, as well as prior coffee threads, show that TUGgers remain passionate with their opinions about coffee. Not quite on a par with passions about timeshare systems, but still similar to thoughts about Trader Joes and Costco.

I don't think it's even fair to say I don't like a particular brand unless I have tried damn-near all their offerings. Beans from different countries and regions taste different, as does their roast level. I don't like all Starbucks, but I do like some -- I had to taste a lot to figure out what I like and don't. Unfortunately the stuff I liked is seldom what they choose for their daily roast. I used to buy Peet's by mail-order when they didn't have presence like they do now in grocery stores, and it definitely could not be found in Canada. Loved the Peet's Major Dickason's dark-roast, which seemed very special to have in the morning, but now it's at Target. Maybe the snob in me wouldn't have even tried it if I first saw it at Target. Now that my taste has been shifting from dark-roast towards medium, maybe that Dunkin' needs a second look? ;)

I just bought the Kirkland house blend for the first time. Giving it a chance. The beans are particularly glossy/oily and not sure my coffee machine is happy about that.
Dark roast coffee beans are almost always oily and they are very bad for a full automatic expresso machine.
We buy only medium roast beans (mostly Lavazza) for our full automatic Delonghi expresso machine.

I see you are from BC. Did you try Kicking Horse coffee (https://www.kickinghorsecoffee.com/) ?
Kicking Horse is a company from BC. Their coffee beans are certified Organic and Fairtrade, which come from many places around the world and roasted in BC.
We like their Smart Ass and their Cliff Hanger Expresso beans but Costco doesn't sell any Kicking Horse coffee beans and thus they are more expensive to buy at the grocery store than the Lavazza coffee beans at Costco.

I don't even use a coffee maker any more. I use a pour over method. I went through too many coffee makers that went bad on me. For a long time I was the only one in the house that drank coffee so it was overkill to use a coffee maker.

That's why we bought a coffeemaker that does full pots and also Keurig pods. We drink a pot daily between us, but one or the other of us usually wants one more cup. The Keurig solved that issue. Having one coffeemaker that does both full pots and single-cup pods, we're good to go.

Peets is fairly strong. We like it.

Wow. Super interesting.

The price changes are referred to as the "Death Star" in the group b/c it means change is coming.

Spinach Salad was brought up on Jan 3. People sad that it's gone. I see no mention of the pasta you refer to.

Lots of very passionate concerns about the rotisserie chickens. And Woozoo fans.

But the biggest hot button issue past 2 months has been the food court discontinuation of the churro replaced by the 750 calorie choc chip cookie.
My biggest disappointment with Costco was probably when they eliminated the 'take home and bake' pizza. They made them fresh daily so I often bought them for dinner that evening. Our Columbus store actually had a Chicago deep dish pizza that was delicious. It was extremely popular so nobody understood why they discontinued it. I typically shop the store early in the day, so the bake at home option is much better than buying their baked pizzas.

We thought that the old-fashioned percolator made the most flavorful coffee, but they seemed to be more susceptible to buildup and were hard to clean. It may be psychological, but I think grinding the coffee right before brewing results in a fresher taste, so I never grind it the night before.

Costco sells Kirkland, Peets, Folgers, Starbucks, Taster's Choice Instant, Dunkin’ Donuts Original Blend, Jose's, Original Donut Shop, and other brands/varieties of coffee. Something for everyone. And yes, people still drink Folgers.o_O
The coffee beans picked by Juan Vadez and brought to town on his donkey Conchita are probably the finest coffee beans in the world. 100% Columbian coffee is what we like. Foldgers is exactly that.

Yes, I have tried Kicking Horse coffee, and I think our Costco does sell the Kick Ass variety (which is the only one I've tried so far). I will look for it next time I'm there. I used to buy Ethical Bean on Amazon auto-delivery but I see that is at Costco now too. I'm kind of bored with Ethical Bean so have been trying a new brand or variety each time, looking for a winner.

Way too much effort - focusing on your phone before coffee? Just mumble to your robot “start coffee”.

I have seriously considered this.
I just use an inexpensive plug in the Socket Timer in which I plug in my Coffee Maker. When I wakeup my Coffee is ready. This does not work with Coffee Makers that turn themselves off after an hour or two. The Timer is set to go off after an hour or two so the Coffee does not get burned.
