Add this to your Marriott's Custom House Restaurant List

The Boston Globe did a story today about Legal Seafoods, in which many readers commented about how Legal Seafoods has significantly deteriorated, after being sold to a large restaurant conglomorate, by the family that founded and ran Legal Seafoods for the majority of the century. In our personal experience, Legal Seafoods has become a disaster.

I can't compete with Marty, and his Hilton Head Island list, but, I do believe this is a very respectable list of Boston restaurants that excel with their lobster rolls.

Nice list and I'll try a couple of those, but I'm sticking to James Hook & Co as our go-to spot. (it made that list)
The portions of lobster on their rolls are just too good, and I know the Chowder is excellent there too.

Here is one of our visits......

We are at Custom House right now and have been using the Boston Restaurants list that was posted by jme in December 2020. Legal Seafoods (by the Aquarium) was fine, although very noisy. On the other hand, Black Rose Pub (across the street from Custom House) was terrible. For an excellent sub sandwich, try Al's just down the block from Custom House. Maybe more restaurants recommendations to come.

Most of my relatives still live in Boston. It is August. August + Lobster Roll = Maine.
People who eat a LOT of them go to Clam Shack in Kennebunkport. not far over the border, maybe 70-75 miles from Boston? others further up if you want to see more of the coast
does Daily Catch still exist? not rolls but they knew how to prepare seafood

Wow, sorry about Black Rose Irish Pub....we've always had good food and good times there. What is up with that? again, so sorry.
Apparently Legal Seafoods has fallen prey to new ownership .....really too bad. We've had great meals there in the past, too.
Maybe short staffing is having its way all over. I know of many fine restaurants (not in Boston) that have experienced problems and it's always for that reason.

The atmosphere at Black Rose Irish Pub was fine. My fish and chips was the problem. Fish was good but the chips were simply crinkle cut fries that were cold. My wife had the chicken caesar salad and she said it was very good. Perhaps "terrible" is too strong a word. Maybe "disappointing" is a better adjective. Interestingly, we just came back from the Chart House and the prime rib was delicious. We were in Quincy yesterday (we are history buffs and the entire Adams family are of particular interest); had lunch at a small cafe called Cucina Mia whose deli sandwiches were very good. We have reservations for Lucca on Sunday and are looking forward to that dinner. Many thanks for all your suggestions!

Lucca is great, and I cannot imagine it being anything but superb, so enjoy........Bricco is also an awesome spot. We're going to Custom House in October
and we'll definitely dine at Bricco, Mamma Maria, and Lucca.....very likely Limoncello too. We'll throw in Regina Pizzeria one evening, too.
Looking forward to being back in our most favorite city in the country. New England in Fall is very hard to beat.

At first, I thought you were referring to this Addams Family :)

While not in Boston, for any Custom House guests that venture up into NH on a day trip, check out Tuckaway Tavern in Raymond NH. Just a little bit off 101. It would be about a 50 minute drive, so not a dinner outing. They have buy 1 get 1 lobster rolls, on Tuesday's if I remember right. They offer 1/2 lb or 1 lb rolls! They are also a full butcher shop and have amazing meat menu options as well. The head chef has been on many Food Network shows, and has won some of their competitive shows.

Or, stop in at USA Subs in Derry, NH for the best steak bomb you have ever had!! Tell Keith, the owner, I sent you! :) I grew up in Derry and have known Keith for 35+ years.

As I was typing my response to Marty, I wondered if anyone would mistake my reference to the Adams Family!

Michael, HELLO !

Funny........I think both "Adams" families are awesome. I actually thought the same as you as I read your post.......enjoyed that!

On a slightly different note, got a couple of Boston stories.
I'm a very dear friend of Samuel Adams, President Adams' cousin, and when my wife Mona and I are in Boston
we get together quite regularly with him in numerous spots around the city.
He's a lot of fun and REALLY makes me laugh. I'll explain.......

1.
Gorgeous evening.......Walking, walking......headed to meet Sam at Regina Pizzeria on Thatcher Street......

Another day, another dollar........Nice day around the city.......a long day in fact,
and we're hungry, so headed out again.
Hmmm, look at that gorgeous horse up ahead.......I have an idea.......
"So, Ma'am....can you take us to see my friend Sam?"
"No, sir, I'm not supposed to take the horse that far."
"But, but.......I'd like to make you an offer, and here's what we need to do...."

It worked, we're off.......
"Giddy-up boy..."

Wow, extremely nice ride thru the city....lot of picture-takers along the way. Felt important!...

"Thanks so much, Ma'am......Please pull over, we're here at The Cheers Bar, and I know Sam is inside.
Can you kindly wait here curbside about 30 minutes?"
"Sure, enjoy, I'll be here waiting."

"Awesome, remember Honey, we passed by here today
on the way to shopping on Newbury Street! Let's go in, Sam is waiting..."

Daily Catch has two locations in Boston. The one in North End moved to a new location, and the newest one is in the Seaport District.
· 65 Atlantic Ave / (617) 772-4400
Fri 4pm – 10pm, Sat 12pm – 10pm, Sun 12pm – 9pm, Mon – Thu 4pm – 9pm

· 323 Hanover Street (Little Italy) / 617 523 8567
OPEN FOR WALK-INS ONLY Fri/Sat 11am – 10pm, Sun 11am – 9pm, Mon-Thu 11am – 9pm

It is indeed very good. It's the one place my wife HAS to visit each trip, to get their Monkfish Marsala. Incredibly good.

(I cannot leave a Boston thread alone...
too many memories and too much fun.)

North view from Custom House
........North End is just a few blocks to walk to dinner........

1692556161733.png

1692556482440.png

The white steeple visible at top middle of photo #1 (just this side of the water) is the Old North Church, with Boston Harbor behind and to the right.
A tiny bit of the Christopher Columbus Waterfront Park is seen as the green area toward the bottom right in photo #1, and can be fully seen in photo #2.

Note: if you're headed to Boston and staying at the Custom House or Marriott's Long Wharf Hotel, study these maps below to get a general feel for the area,
and when you get there you'll see that it's very familiar and very easy, and you'll also know where the nearest "T" station is (Boston's subway, which is very easy to navigate).

1. First map: walk from Custom House to Union Oyster House. (only since it was mentioned above)
.....that is, if that's where you are headed to experience this very charming old restaurant.
We do truly enjoy it for what it is......a very good restaurant and a historic one where many dignitaries regularly dined in days past.

2. Second set of maps: the short walk to North End & Hanover Street (the heart of "Little Italy") & site of many fine restaurants, or close to them.
Three options: (See maps to note them)
(a) Follow this walking map....the walk is about 12+ minutes.

(b) or Follow this walking map, slight variation.
From the FRONT Entrance of Custom House, take a right on State St and walk toward Boston Harbor.
You'll come to the very busy Atlantic Ave----it's a split street with a wide median with foliage between the two opposing traffic lanes.
But cross to the far side and take the LEFT sidewalk northbound, and follow the traffic direction.
After 3 blocks you'll see Hanover St on your RIGHT.

With this route, initially you'll be walking alongside the Christopher Columbus Waterfront Park.... (or you can go through the park---green area on map----it's very pretty).
At the top border of the park there's a street that intersects from the right and serves as the north border of the park-----it wraps around the park
and is actually Atlantic Avenue which branches off. Take that street and walk one block, then Turn LEFT onto Richmond St.
Head straight about 3 blocks to Hanover St. You'll cross 2 streets, Fulton and North streets.....Hanover is the next one.
All said, that walk is about 12+ minutes.
Or go through the park to its north end (green area on map), then look for Richmond St across Atlantic Ave. Take that and continue straight up to Hanover St.

(c) or simply cross to the far side of Atlantic Ave & then walk straight northward along the sidewalk (follow traffic direction of the main drag), and take a right on Hanover St.
Atlantic Ave becomes "Cross Street" as it continues straight up past the north border of the park, as Atlantic Ave branched off to the right as mentioned.

[[[[[ OK, now.......if you want a quick and easy way to remember how to get to North End from Custom House, just do this:
Cross Atlantic Ave anywhere and continue to walk north alongside it until you see Hanover St....take a right and you're there.
You can go by way of Quincy Market or Faneuil Hall and then cross Atlantic Ave, or you can head down State St (toward water)
and cross Atlantic Ave at Marriott's Long Wharf Hotel, take a Left and walk north to Hanover St. That's really all you need to know.
I did the maps above with lots of detail (maybe a bunch of overkill, but for a reason) just so you can ZOOM in & out and see the restaurants
and other things along the way while studying the maps.]]]]]

***Additional info re landmarks and transportation hubs in the immediate area:
(FYI, the Marriott Long Wharf Hotel is on the south border of the park. It's easily recognizable as "the long, red-brick funny-looking building",
and serves as a great "newcomer's landmark" on Atlantic Ave.)
The corner where the hotel turn-in is located is where the hop-on/hop-off Boston Bus Tours originate,
and where the "Aquarium T" station is located (take steps down at large glass covering),
and NEAR where the New England Aquarium is located (see map for that).
It's also the general location for the origination of most of the Boston Day Trip Tours (aka the Bus Stop), such as to Newport RI and to Martha's Vineyard, etc, etc.
(Check with concierge to confirm that.) Bus Stop for major tours is around back where Legal Seafoods' entrance is----
You'll see buses line up for the boarding of ticket-holders each am there at the Bus Stop.

Hanover Street is where most of the Italian restaurants are........and the best Pastry Shops.
You can absolutely duck into any restaurant in North End with confidence and get a great meal.
Or likewise visit any random establishment for a wonderful pizza, or a beer or cocktail accompanied by "taking a break" and watching some sports on TV.
Or find wine or groceries or whatever. But never, ever forget the pastry shops......Don't leave North End without a take-home box!!!!
In other words, "Leave the gun, take the cannoli".
We like Modern Pastry best because it has a nice sitting area where you can find a window table and people-watch as you enjoy their magnificent creations.
Mike's is good too..... https://www.mikespastry.com/ , as is Bova's....https://bovabakeryboston.net/
When you get back and enjoy your accommodation's fantastic view with your significant other, know that the desserts pair quite well with a glass of wine!!! ;)
Cirace's Wine Shop (formerly V. Cirace & Son) is a great place to spontaneously pick up a bottle of wine or two as you walk back...... https://www.vcirace.com/
There are also historical landmarks as part of the Freedom Trail along the way.

We once did just that during our very first visit to Boston (9 trips ago), ducking into Strega on Hanover St and having one of the best Italian meals ever.
Actually I had the best Lamb Chops I've ever had there, and the memory is still quite vivid-----it literally keeps me coming back to North End.
Got a bottle of wine as we walked home, enjoyed the gorgeous wonderfully-lit cityscape view to the south out our living room window, and melted slowly into the evening.
(It remains our most favorite view from Custom House, btw, far and away. Harbor View is great during the day if you don't go anywhere
(but we're out & about all day tho, so that's basically irrelevant),
but the city view of the varying-shaped tall buildings are spectacular out the window.....a backdrop unsurpassed.
Reminds me of the movie "An Affair to Remember" with Cary Grant & Deborah Kerr. Yes, Boston is plenty romantic too.
Since then, we've had many, many more fantastic meals in North End, and we now know where the very finest restaurants are, as well as the most casual "fun" ones,
and also the best places to just grab a quick bite or a dessert and move on. Oh yeah, and the best LOBSTER ROLLS and CHOWDER (lest I forget THAT!!!)
ZOOM in & out on the maps to find names/locations of restaurants, etc.

My top list of superb restaurants, imho, would include Mamma Maria (2nd floor, window table), Lucca, Bricco, Limoncello, Mare Oyster Bar.

And for lunch or mid-afternoon dinner, don't miss the popular Lobster Roll & Chowder "dives". Not necessarily fancy but simply as good as it gets.
All the Oyster Bars are good even though a few might at times seem slightly overrated and inconsistent, and a couple aptly described as simply touristy.
James Hook & Co is our favorite (walk SOUTH on ATLANTIC AVE along the water), but many others are scattered around.

We walk to dinner every evening------it's a huge part of the charm of the North End & Boston, and why we are looking forward to our 10th trip to Boston in 13 years this upcoming October.....And we get a great chance to talk about anything, including the day's activities we enjoyed or the agenda for the next day or week,
or maybe which "tours" we would like to take as out-trips from Boston ("should always be" planned months earlier, btw, but some people wait until the last minute,
but just sayin'),
or engage in simple small-talk. Sometimes while out walking during the day we may need a break, so we'll grab a water somewhere
and spontaneously hop on one of the Bus Tours and do that again....we've done several, and last visit did 2 in one day.....
each is different due to different hosts/drivers and we learn something new every time.

HERE are a few photos of Union Oyster House from a past trip, since it was mentioned above by Marathoner. (thank you Marathoner!)
We have dined there several times over the years though, and always enjoyed it.
That area looks like something out of Harry Potter.

Copley Square Area
Many high end restaurants on Boylston Street - we had work expense account, but needed to keep it with in reason so skipped many high end options. Listed below are some great places that we went to at least once if not more often and did not break the expense system.

Parish Cafe - http://parishcafe.com/
Fun place where different chefs across Boston provide recipes for outstanding burger or sandwich creations (great tap beer options too)

Buttermilk and Bourbon - https://www.buttermilkbourbon.com
Smaller plates and a bit pricey, but oh my the biscuits are amazing along with the spicy/hot chicken

Lobster Rolls! Small space, mainly take-out

Five Horses Tavern - South End - http://fivehorsestavern.com/boston

and also the best places to just grab a quick bite or a dessert and move on.

Love your pictures, especially Hanover Street. Lucca was very good. I had the haddock which was excellent. My wife had the paparelle with chicken piccata and our friend has the salmon. Both were also very good. Our table was right at the front with the open windows/doors at my back. Tonight, our last night in Boston, we are going to eat at "The Daily Catch" on Atlantic Avenue. Also, while visiting with our friend, who lives in Cambridge, we found a great restaurant in Harvard Square named "Alden and Harlow". Apparently very popular with Harvard students and faculty. Finally, the Custom House location is perfect to travel all around Boston with the Blue Line "T" right out the front door. Thanks for all your suggestions. Now, if we can only get back to Hilton Head (my cousin lives in Charleston), I can savor your Hilton Head restaurant thread!

Now, if we can only get back to Hilton Head (my cousin lives in Charleston),
I can savor your Hilton Head restaurant thread!

Glad you've had a great stay in Boston, particularly at Custom House (my absolute favorite Marriott property, btw).....
And yes, it's close to most everything "cool' about Boston, like North End, the weekend produce market, the Aquarium, Quincy Market & Faneuil Hall,
the USS Constitution (aka "Old Ironsides"), the endless waterfront establishments that provide hearty laughs and great cheer...along with a few pints of delicious beers of course, and much more.
A short walk and you're there in the heart of Little Italy.....full of great food, great pubs, great times, and plenty of reminders of what's really important----
the history of the founding of this country.
It's a mere 12-15 minutes walk, tops, to the farthest restaurant of note, and to us that's Regina Pizzeria on Thatcher St....
Nothing fancy to speak of except pure fun & perfect pizzas.
The T is right there within a stone's throw of Custom House, literally across Atlantic Ave, and that's really all anyone needs to know about getting around in Boston...
That is, unless you prefer to hire Uber to get you to Newbury St for window shopping and more awesome cafes for the best lunches around....or delectable chocolate shops,
or flagship boutiques where one outfit could be equivalent to a few extra nights at a boutique hotel.
For a wonderful, restful, and fulfilling lunch, drop in to "Joe's" on Newbury St., for example.. https://www.joesonnewbury.com/menu

Rather than walking or using the T, every once in a while it's worth a speedier trip to get somewhere...... So summon Uber.
As you mention--- the area immediately around the Harvard campus-----it is awesome and worth a half-day's dalliance.
There are many cafes to enjoy, and also the bookstore to peruse the many ways that a simple purchase can impress others.
When they see you they wonder, "Did he or didn't he?" (really go to Harvard?) just by looking at the new T-shirt.
.....and all the while you can pretend to be "young and smart, rather than old and wise".

So, back to the point per your post above regarding Hilton Head------(you state a most ambitious endeavor indeed)------
You will NOT find a destination with more wonderful cuisine given the equivalent square miles.
I don't think that's possible unless you travel to Paris.

You will be hard pressed to visit even a handful of the fantastic choices available. And visiting ALL the greats, Fuhgettaboutit.
That will take time and a few visits to accomplish, and it can get rather expensive.
The top choices, imho, are Alfred's, Sage Room, Bluffton Room, Crane's Tavern, Michael Anthony's, Ombra, Sea Grass Grill, Nunzio,
The Studio, Vine, Santa Fe, Charlie's L'Etoile Verte, Redfish, Celeste, & Jazz Corner.
And even a mere breakfast can get serious, as these places are very addicting----Kenny B's, Palmetto Bay Sunrise Cafe, French Bakery----
Good luck and bon appetit!!!!

For the North End Boston, I highly recommend Giacomo’s and Pagliuca’s. Both are excellent and very popular with locals.

Thanks so much for these entries and great suggestions - all in one place. Custom House is my personal favorite timeshare, acquired from Marriott in 2007 from Tim Hamilton. We have gone nearly every year. Even our oldest son bought one resale as he and his wife established CH as their annual favorite annual getaway (from CA).

Thanks again. To others, please don't miss this one.

Todd, thanks so much, but my newest list (2023) is actually here below, posted in another previous thread which I will link now.
I'll go ahead and copy/paste that list again, as well.
It's the best list, slightly tweaked from yours referenced (2020) because it contains Bricco, one of our newest favorites. We've had a few fantastic meals there.
I also slightly altered other things.
The list is POST #2 in the thread:

**************************************************************

added: (brief foreword as originally written)

I would also now like to bring attention to, and second heartedly, the several suggestions given recently in this current thread
BY OTHERS who have visited Boston lately. Those remarks are always helpful, and in the trying times we've experienced
over the last 3 years, things can change rapidly due to staff shortages, buyouts, new management....whatever.

*************************************************************

I decided to just Copy & Paste my Boston list, so fwiw, here you go.
We've visited Boston in either mid-October or early December 9 times out of the last 12 years, I think.
Heading back this October and can't wait....we love Boston.

Quick Note, probably will be repeated:
All North End restaurants are walkable from Custom House.....more fun that way.
Reservations a definite requirement if they take them. Many restaurants require cash.

BOSTON RESTAURANT LIST........2023
All of those listed are personal favorites…the first two ** are special. The list and the accompanying descriptions are all my own personal opinion.
Reservations are a MUST for any place here that takes reservations, at least 2-3 weeks in advance to be safe.
Opentable or Resy might make it easier, sometimes a call is necessary.

[A quick note about Boston’s North End restaurants: All the restaurants are quite busy at all times, and you need to know
how things are because of that. You may encounter a server or a staff member “with an attitude” on occasion (or even often),
but my advice is to “Let it go!”.
You are dining in either very crowded spaces (if post-Covid19 norms have returned, or in very limited, spaced-table arrangements
if Covid19 protocols are still in place). Remember that the kitchen is hot, the food takes a lot of attention, and the staff is non-stop
super-busy and their days are long and crazy, and that’s just how it is.
It’s life in Boston's "Little Italy” (and other big cities), so do not let it diminish your amazing dining experiences there.
They sometimes feel rushed to get you out and someone else in, especially with today’s limited seating which causes financial pressure,
and therefore they might make that known subliminally or outright. It absolutely does not bother me because it’s understandable.
So become one of them! Embrace the moment, and use the opportunity to enjoy yourself and at the same time help them, too.
A “Grazie mille, Ciao", and “Can’t wait to come back" will go a long way.
Dining in the North End is indeed special, and makes great memories, so keep that warm smile on your face, and make a new friend!]

*** FACT TO KNOW: Dining in North End/Little Italy has been strictly CASH ONLY in the past, but with Covid19
that might have changed, so make sure you know the prevailing practice before you go.

PERSONAL FAVORITES: * = Top 5

Mamma Maria
**……https://mammamaria.com/ Of those in my top 5, it’s my FAVORITE! And if you go, you’ll see why….pure elegance & class.
authentic Italian with a more upscale flare. Never rushed here. Romantic with quieter atmosphere, lovely decor with white tablecloths,
food amazing, service impeccable, truly as good as it gets. Again, make reservations way ahead, especially here…like 3-4 weeks.
Request "second floor window table". Top of hill in Paul Revere Square. (Had a great memorable meal here with TUG’s “jont” and our wives!)

Limoncello**…. http://www.ristorantelimoncello.com/
authentic Italian with fine bistro feel, and in my “top 5”. Beautiful, romantic interior with an awesome mural filling up one wall.
Great food and service. Immediately adjacent to Paul Revere’s House. Get reservations way in advance…it stays booked far ahead. Request a table in "Left Half” of restaurant in section where mural is. There is a mid-room partition half-wall, so my favorite table
is along that partition (still within the “mural” half)!

Bricco**…. https://bricco.com/
gourmet Italian cuisine and cocktails are standard fare at this cozy authentic restaurant in Boston’s North End. Also in my "top 5”. It became one of my favorites after our very first meal,
and it will be a go-to spot whenever we return. Menu is wonderful, food is delicious, and service is superb. The item I ordered last time was tied with the best I’ve ever had,
so it has remained memorable since we left the room….I’ll run back to get it again. The bar area is one of the area’s most fun hangouts, and it’s always very crowded, but the energy is real and the laughter and good times will keep you coming back. Reservations a must, and way in advance. Suggest going early for a great table. Located on Hanover Street.

La Famiglia Giorgio’s…...https://www.lafamigliagiorgios.com/
Highly rated authentic Italian restaurant in North End with great food and good service. Very cozy rustic interior and attractive art including
a wonderful Italian mural. I remember this place by the gorgeous wooden front door (a lot of that in Florence, Italy—big beautiful wooden doors!)
and flower boxes out front. We dined there once and it made a great impression.
Huge variety of menu items that covers the great traditional Italian dishes. A lot to like here.

Florentine Cafe…….https://www.florentinecafeboston.com/ Very nice place, you’ll know it by the long row of window flower boxes out front,
sort of a landmark on the corner of Hanover St….Very good food, and a cozy, romantic interior and ambiance. Nice menu, all the basics and all done well.
Fun to sit at the window and people-watch too. We first had a late lunch there and it was excellent…and the dinner menuis impressive too. Very enjoyable.

Union Oyster Househttp://unionoysterhouse.com/ Claimed to be the oldest restaurant in America. Whether really true or not doesn't matter, as it WAS one of the first.
Small but wonderful and historic, too. See the Kennedy booth upstairs! And ask to dine on second floor.
AND see the special plaque on the wall at the top of the stairs----extremely interesting.
Really good food and service. Located in a a very old section of town, very quaint but beautiful and definitely worth the fairly short walk from Custom House.
Street area outside & architecture of buildings look like something out of Harry Potter, but no wands allowed inside. A definite visit is recommended. My favorite oyster house.

Neptune Oyster Bar…..https://www.neptuneoyster.com/ extremely popular, very crowded, long wait-time, but touted as Boston's
quintessential Italian dive. Very busy bar seating & busy tables. Some love the frenetic atmosphere, some don’t. Touted as a “must”,

Black Rose Irish Pub…. https://www.blackroseboston.com/ Directly adjacent to Custom House, across State St…. Really a GREAT spot for lunch or dinner.
Traditional pub fare, and we love it. A regular stop when we’re at Custom House. Hope you get to experience when a bunch of guys at the bar strike up
with a traditional Irish song! Rousing Irish fun!!! I say it’s a definite "MUST DO”, and you’ll go around claiming to be Irish after that.

PIZZA, PIZZA……. are you kidding? EVERYWHERE you look in North End there's fantastic pizza. Close your eyes and pick one.
Or just duck in anywhere when you can’t walk another step…you’ll be happy. But for a special treat, well worth the walk to the
upper border of North End, visit "THE ORIGINAL” …yes, the very first pizzeria in America. It’s a hole-in-the-wall as you might expect,
but it’s the most glorious dive I know, blending great pizza & beverage with culinary history. The American history of pizza thrives here.
And it stays busy. It’s cozy & hopelessly romantic in its simplicity, and perfectly beautiful in its own way…..and it’s truly a fun evening.
And of course the pizzas are fantastic, too. Who knows the many famous and infamous who dined here before you?
Regina Pizzeria…. http://www.reginapizzeria.com/north_end.html
Visit only the original location on Thatcher Street!….for us from Custom House it’s a 12-15 min walk, so it’s easily doable.
How I placed it last here at the bottom of my list is inexplicable, but nevertheless, here it is…..surely a great memory,
and always the one we talk about after we get home……so, perhaps best left for last. Ciao ciao!

OTHER good spots to consider, all rated well…….

Pomodoro...https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaur...83-Reviews-Pomodoro-Boston_Massachusetts.html

Quincy Market (Food Court)…..one of then longest food courts you’ll ever see. Great for a quick bite on the run,
or just a plop-down inexpensive dinner after you’re exhausted from a full day out and about in Boston. Cheap dates, here you go.
Most of the food is good, and the desserts and treats wonderful. Next to Faneuil Hall….street level & one street over from Custom House.

BREAKFAST:

If you want a nice relaxed breakfast, we have found two places easily walkable from MVC Pulse at Custom House, & both are very enjoyable.
First, the Marriott Long Wharf Hotel…about 2 blocks away, on the harbor….very nice buffet, great coffee and a nice water/boat view.
Second, The Langham Hotel…about 4-5 blocks away on Franklin St (6 min walk), but an impressive and excellent breakfast/brunch buffet.

Here’s how to walk to both: https://goo.gl/maps/Ga5HJVQ1q43KmYrT8

Pastry Shops in North End: All are great and people have favorites, so test them as you will.

Modern Pastry…...https://www.modernpastry.com/ hands down my favorite. Love the seated area to people-watch as we indulge.

Long lines but my favorite is still Modern Pastry.

A FINAL THOUGHT on the pastry shops:
Quoted from The Godfather, the source of all wisdom….”Leave the gun, take the cannoli…"

After dinner in North End, run by a pastry shop on your walk back to Custom House and grab some pastries, especially cannoli.
They go very well with a nice bottle of Italian wine. Makes for a special evening.....

Thanks for your patience on this long "short list".....hope this will help.
Things change, and the places on this list will too, but I’m hoping it will add some measure of enjoyment
to anyone who loves the city of Boston, and wishes to get "a great taste of the city” as the visit progresses.
In all fairness I didn’t intend to rule out those notable places NOT mentioned in the list, but at least these are tried and tested, and are worthy of consideration.
And remember, these are only the ones in the North End, as Boston has dozens and dozens of world-class restaurants outside the North End.
In fact the very TOP RATED restaurants, ZAGAT quality, are scattered throughout the rest of the city. But while on vacation, we typically don’t search for those,
hence my limited list. The pursuit of a definitive list would be exhausting, near impossible, and not my intention. So I focused on those within walking distance
of my "home away from home" in Boston——the Marriott Vacation Club Pulse at Custom House.
It will be my ongoing joy to search for new spots in the coming years in my favorite big city in America. Hope to be there each year, anytime October thru December.

Ciao ciao!
