I'm considering buying a small points package with charter benefits after reading through some of the threads here. After looking on Pinnacle the lowest price I see is about $8,700. Are charter benefits worth the additional $6,200. I would prefer to have the charter so that any other resale points I get fall under the charter and add to my membership level.

I would think most people would think it not worth it. Are you buying up to the next level? I wouldn't assume pinnacle is any cheaper than buying directly from bluegreen. If you are buying but not getting to the next level, I would wait until you are ready because the more points you buy the more likely you would be able to get a discount on the per point cost. It sounds like you already have systemwide bonus time so you aren't buying a small package to get that access. How many more points do you want annually and how far are you from reaching the next level. In some cases just adding resale might be a better deal if you aren't actively buying retail to level up.

Additional resale points do NOT add to your membership level unless they are also purchased through Pinnacle with charter benefits attached.

Aside from higher membership level benefits, to me the main reason to have at least a few charter points is that it will allow you to use bonus time at all BlueGreen resorts instead of just at the one(s) you own.

This will be my first Bluegreen points purchase. I was looking at getting points on Ebay, but so far they have all been blocked by Bluegreen based on ROFR. Then some people in a facebook group recommended buying a small point package with a charter. I figured I'd get advice first

Sorry I read it as you already have charter benefits and want to add to increase your level. 10+ years ago you could buy a small points package from pinnacle and get all of the charter benefits there was a price point and on pinnacle as long as you met that price point you got charter benefits regardless of whether it was a 3000 annual package or a 30,000 annual package. Then they changed it so that minimum per point only applied to larger packages through pinnacle and lower point packages are sold at a higher per point price point in order to get charter. With that change, all of the sudden the 3000 point package jumped from $4000+ 600 in closing (at $1.25 per point) to closer to $9000 by the time you pay all of the closing costs. With Pinnacle you can't negotiate anything lower than what they offer if you want charter benefits. They do get down to $1.25 per point but only for much much larger packages. So you won't be able to negotiate any less than $8670 plus over $600 in closing costs for 3000 points for charter benefits through Pinnacle. Onsite sales on the other hand can negotiate, at least a little. So if you bargain hard for that same $9000 out of pocket you could get 4000-5000 directly through bluegreen. You should go in knowing what you would pay through Pinnacle and start bargaining from that point.

All this is to say that the small packages with Charter Benefits are not nearly the bargain they once were. 3000 points isn't going to get you very far and is it worth $9000 Vs getting a usable chunk of points 10,000-12,000 or more for around $2500-$3000 without charter benefits. You do get bonus time at your home resort with resale but you don't get it systemwide like you do for charter. To start to build up to higher levels with authorized points you are putting in quite a bit even if you are doing it with larger points packages purchases.

Silver premier level starts at 20,000 points if you are doing it in 5000 points at a time you are looking at $36,000+. If you go straight for 20,000 in one purchase, you might be able to do it for $28,000-$30,000 and silver doesn't get you all that much. You could get 20,000 resale points for under $5000.

Hello, first post. I just sat through my first bluegreen presentation and I was led to believe that unless I have charter points I can only use them at the location of purchase… but from reading this, the only benefit of charter points is the ‘bonus time’ at any location.

If I buy off the secondary market, non charter points, I would still get RCI and my points at any location 11 months prior. Unless I buy enough for bronze/silver/gold and then it would be a month earlier…true or false? Thanks in advance.

Check out https://bluegreentimesharesecrets.com/ for a good resource to understand the system, and how to maximize it if you are indeed serious about buying Bluegreen. Yes, it costs a little bit of money but it was well worth it for me after I bought in. It does explain a lot of the pros and cons of purchasing resale vs retail.

S-76, Welcome to a helpful community of BG owners.
One can acquire BG 'charter' benefits in 2 ways:
(1) purchase directly from Bluegreen at one of their sales pitches (call this "full retail")
(2) purchase a "Charter Benefits Included" package through their (only) authorized reseller, Pinnacle Vacations (call this "off the rack")
"Off the rack" purchases are somewhat more economical because BG doesn't have to comp a salesperson. Your mileage will vary....
Once you are 'in the system' you can acquire non-charter points by purchasing (private deal, 3rd party or through Pinnacle) "non-charter" points which can help you take bigger vacations
but will NOT bump you up the Bronze/Platinum/Diamond benefit levels in the Club membership. Only "charter" points do that.
Your annual maintenance fee is tied to the number of points and their associated resorts, not whether they are "Charter" or "non-Charter" points.
Hope this is clarifying and helpful.

Thanks. But the site is for a book and I managed to talk them into a couple days to think about it and still retain the charter status. The book im sure would be useful, but i need an answer quickly.

Can you please confirm if i buy a small number of points on charter status and add non charter status points later, and I combine the total of the points together? Thank you.

You can’t combine them for status. I can’t remember the lowest amount they will sell for. Try asking on the Bluegreen resort addicts , uncensored on Facebook.

You can combine for use, but not for status.
