Is smoking (cigars & cigarettes) allowed at these resorts on your balcony? Near the pool? I'm guessing MX hasn't gotten on the "ban smoking" bandwagon like some countries.

Club Regina- P.V., Cabo and Cancun-- have ashtrays in the units- do not appear to have smoking and non- smoking rooms- and not seen any no smoking signs. At different times- we have smelled either cigarette or cigar smoke from an open window or balcony- but never has been a problem. As a former smoker- I am very sensitive to smoking odor (you know a reformed anyone- is the worse in the world) - I have not smelled an odor of stale smoke in any of the rooms- must be because of the all the stone, tile, cement, windows- and very little fabric for the odor to stick to, plus- the housekeeping staff- really scrub the units on a daily basis.

Only have stayed a Mayan Palace once- really do not remember anything about thier policy re smoking.

Yes, unfortunately MP still permits smoking because there are ashtrays in the rooms.

The Grand Mayans in Riviera Maya and Nuevo Vallarta do NOT permit smoking in the units. They do have ashtrays for use on the balcony only. I imagine that is the general policy at all of the Mayan Palace resorts.

Thanks John.

We stay at the M.P's in Puerto and Nuevo Vallarta each year. Smoking is not prohibited in the rooms, but my wife, considerate person that she is, takes it out on the balcony, such as it is, and closes the door.
