Massanutten - difference between week and points?

I'm looking at buying at Regal Vistas at Massanutten. There seem to be two flavors. One that includes 50,000 RCI points but says it a fixed week, and another which says nothing about points, and just includes a fixed week.

I suspect the one with points might be a different scheme, where maybe the points are worth less than they would be if I took the unit with just the fixed week and converted it to RCI points? Anyone have any insight as to how these work, and which one is better?

My main goals are:
1. To be able to book at Massanutten a number of times a year for just the cash cost of the week, I guess via RCI.
2. It would be nice to trade in the week we have if we are not going to be able to use it and get RCI points equivalent to a week somewhere else.

Thanks!

Points are more valuable on the resale market. Look for the highest point value. A 4 bedroom regal vista worth 178K or a 2 bedroom RV at 89K. Another option is woodstone at massanutten.

Points are more desirable than fixed weeks.

Points for a prime week in Massanutten are worth more than prime weeks not in points. off season weeks have not value regardless of points or weeks. Shoulder weeks in points might be slightly more valuable than the $0 resale value of shoulder season in weeks.

@CPNY what exchanges have you gotten with your 178K Regal Vistas so far? I know we were talking about it (thanks for the very helpful advice!) but I never pulled the trigger.

So I had the 89K 2 bedroom for two years, however I just sold it. Ive exchanged into multiple DVC units when it was in RCI. The best exchange I made and probably the only reason why I considered keeping the RCI points was for the tradewinds French Polynesia cruise, that was a phenomenal trip

Oh right! It was a like a 178K EOY right? That's great that you were able to get into DVC regularly while it was in RCI.

Yes the 178K EOY is really given as 89K annually

For goal #1 all you need is ANYTHING that can have an RCI account tied to it.

You can book almost anything you want at Massanutten as a “last call” or “extra” vacation through RCI.

Advice: Buy something with some value to it and with some desirability if you don’t want to get stuck with something that will be hard to unload.
