We are heading to Phoenix for the Super Bowl next week. Any good restaurant choices from fellow Tuggers would be appreciated.

Roys is inside the hotel connected to the villas.

Others will have a lot more info than I do but we enjoyed In n Out burger, Barrio Queen and Mellow Mushroom all within a mile or so of the resort. While not close, we went to 2 different Spaghetti Factory restaurants (one in Chandler). We love Spaghetti Factory and both were very nice though slightly different.

Barrio Queen is excellent for Mexican. I hear Mellow Mushroom recommended all the time but haven't been there. We will be there in a couple weeks and are planning on going to Roy's.

We tried Roy's years ago and weren't impressed. Very pricey.

Last November we went to Tia Carmen's. More casual atmosphere and after having the mushroom menudo I had such a craving to have it again we went back a second time. I told the waitress how much I liked it so she told the chef. He came out to say hi and then sent me home with a small container of his spice blend.

Here's my list. I stay at MCV twice a year. It may not be completely up to date since Covid impacted the industry?

I second the reco for Spiga cucina Italiana ( pinnacle peak & Pima) 480-513-9000. We've enjoyed several great meals there.

For breakfast, we love Butter's or Butterfields. It looks like there is a new Butter's semi close to Canyon Villas. From what I understand, Butterfields and Butter's are owned by the same people, but two different names. The menus are pretty much the same. Perhaps the best breakfast food we have eaten anywhere.

We go to MCV once a year and always go to the Jade Palace on Pinnacle peak road. Nice upscale Chinese restaurant. Good food, reasonable prices.

There is a Total Wine in the same complex as the In'N'Out Burger and a Costco a couple exits from the resort.

I think the Roy's inside the hotel closed
It appears it is still open. We always liked their happy hour, but last year they wouldn't allow Happy Hour customers to sit on the patio. I hope they change that policy because that is the only reason we went there. The JW changed management a few years ago and are much more profit drive than customer focused. A large portion of the pool and lazy river seating has been converted to reservation only (with a high fee). If I was a hotel guest already paying exorbitant resort fees, I would be very upset. They have also greatly cut back on the days that MCV guests can use the pools.

They ARE open but will be closing the Desert Ridge location in April.

We enjoy three course meals, even if they are early birds. We plan to visit Fleming's for their "Taste for Twosday", but just learned that Roy's has discontinued their "Pau Hana" menu. Does anyone know of other three course meals in the Desert Ridge area? Thanks!

I wonder if the new JW owners forced them out with unreasonable lease requirements. Roy's was always busier than the JW restaurants. They likely will replace it with their own restaurant that will be priced so only those on expense account can afford to eat there.

We just came back from Canyon Villas a week ago. In spite of the cool weather we had a great time.

We enjoyed the cowboy singer, Marshall Pioneer Pepper, who entertained us and about 60 other people on Thursday night. We had the "cowboy dinner" (pulled pork, beans, coleslaw, etc.). Of all of the Marriott CV activities, this one has got to be the most popular, based on the size of his audience. It runs from 4-6 pm down by the grill patio.

We had the cowboy dinner one night when we didn't feel like going anywhere and the food wasn't bad. I've seen two different cowboy singers there and both were good. Although it brought back great childhood memories, we never stay for the whole show. Do you recommend any other restaurants in the area? I'll try Jade Palace when I'm there in March.

Before the JW management change, the golf course restaurant and Tuscany's had twilight specials that were pretty good. I don't think that any of the restaurants there have those specials any more, but you can check with the JW concierge.

For simple food, the Yard House and BJ's Brew pub are decent enough. and are in the Desert Ridge shopping center.

The concierge, Christopher, has created/updated a nice "insider guide". It includes a list of recommended:
-Happy Hour
-"Guilty Pleasures" (bars)
-Concierge Curated Restaurant Guide (broken down by type of food)

I suspect that if you call, that the Concierge would email you these pages.

BTW, in March, the "Celebration of Fine Art" at Hovley and 101 will still be going. The concierge can give you free tickets to that and another art show on Scottsdale road. Most of the artists are actually on-site and creating new art. It can take a couple of hours to go through the entire show. There is a restaurant on-site also.

We ate at Roy's, Tia Carmen, Soul, and Rita's at Marriott's Camelback Inn while at Canyon Villas in December. Roy's was awful, and we'd liked it in other visits. But later we learned they would be closing, and realized why the three people we had as servers were clueless, and really did not know the menu or what they were doing. I think the former employees have moved on already, but it could have been just a bad day. Surprisingly, we loved Tia Carmen. Great service, interesting dishes, my husband said his steak was as good as any he'd ever had. We had MVC points to use up so we had a resort credit for the first time and ordered way more food than we'd normally get. Soul was recommended by one of the Canyon Villas associates and it was great. She said she had grown up there and it was her favorite restaurant. We used a couple of free night certificates at Camelback Inn, and had aways enjoyed their Happy Hour, but since the weather was especially cold, and rainy the two days we were there, we ate there several times, and their breakfast buffet was really good. We had a free continental buffet as Titanium, but for $7 could upgrade to regular buffet, and on Sunday they had a huge Christmas buffet for $75 which I assume we could have upgraded to, but the the regular, and even the continental buffet had awesome choices, and a great view of Camelback Mountain. A couple of our former patio favorites were apparently not open, or closed permanently, but weather was only almost great a couple of days, so did not check them out .

I'm headed to Canyon Villas at the end of this month for another business trip. It's cheaper for my company to put me up here then the hotel near our plant....I love this resort, I mostly eat at Roy's when I stay here as after a long day at work, I just want to crash and go somewhere close...

@Quilter, thanks for the recommendation, I am headed here on Feb 24th for a business trip, I will try this place out...
