Hello TUGgers,

I've been (happily) going to Hawaii and the Caribbean for many years now and somehow I'm finding myself with heavy travel to Europe -- it's partially work and mostly a lot of fun. I think I will commute semi-regularly to Cambridge in the UK and separately also to Frankfurt (really, Mainz) in Germany. I just got back from Florence, but that was pure fun, visiting my daughter who is "studying" abroad. Florence is amazing.

Are there any decent timeshares in the UK or that area of West/Central Germany? I'm trying to find ways to stretch the trips to cover as many fun days as possible and always prefer to leverage timeshares. I know HGVC has a timeshare in Tuscany and I think that will factor in somewhere/somehow, but looking for any local knowledge beyond simply what we see in TUG reviews.

Please advise and thanks!

Best,

Greg

PS - If it matters to any future TUGger, we had a great experience on Air Dolomiti -- a regional carrier (owned by Lufthansa) that took us from Munich to Florence, to allow us to split the time. I am a little suspicious of carriers I've never heard of (I'm sure that's a bad thing to admit), but I can report a happy experience with Air Dolomiti.

PPS -- I can also report that scams are a real thing on VRBO -- we had a great experience in Munich in our VRBO, but our Venice property was a scam. In hindsight, I should have realized it (lack of communication from the property manager, to my questions), but it's a problem for them. We didn't lose any money because we didn't cancel (the "property manager" tried to get us to cancel) but we felt something was off about the situation. So........hopefully I can find some timeshares in my desired spots!

Best again,

Greg

Hi Greg - I am a happy owner of Hapimag. Hapimag owns units throughout Europe. I believe you can participate with a trial membership and/or rent a unit. Check-out the website for locations.

I find the organization very owner-friendly, the units in good locations with well informed, helpful on-site personnel.

Happy to answer any questions you have!

Maria

I enjoyed a stay at MacDonalds Elmer's Court. New Forest. Not always readily available ...but put a search in... we loved it !

I've traded into Elmer's Court with DAE, and concur. Nice resort in an interesting area.

Several of my favorite UK resorts including one I owned a couple of summer weeks at, have either had their lease expire or the members opted to sell them.

My wife and I really enjoyed several exchanges we had on canalboats on English canals, exchanged through RCI (back when we used them), DAE, and UKRE. They were really an amazing experience.

Royal Regency in Vincennes, just outside of the center of Paris was a surprisingly well located timeshare. It was a reasonably short walk to the metro station - maybe 15 min? and in a very nice neighborhood. Usually in Europe we try to stay in a regular B&B with an english speaking host, so I was skeptical about a timeshare but it was a great experience. I found the 1 bedroom unit very functional but very small, so if you are going to have more than two people, try to get the 2 bedroom. We also stayed at one of the timeshares located in Connelles. Those were too remote for us for the Normandy part of our trip and I wouldn't use that location as a base in the future.
