Hi! I have access to reserve tomorrow at 9am for the 13 month Hilton Head July 4, 2023 week window. I'm hoping you experienced reservers can help me with my questions. 1) How hard is it to reserve a 4th of July week at one of the 4 ocean front resorts and 2) Have you ever tried to rent out this week on Redweek and what did you get for it and 3) anyone ever use the seemingly obscure Vacation Candy to rent out their week?

Thanks for any insight you might have and Happy Memorial Day!

Reserving is difficult, esp at 13 months out but being open to more resorts will help, we're only looking at MGO. Renting is easy normally but with the ? of recession, that might change. I do not have any experience with Koala or Vacation Candy.

Are you booking with points or a deed? I believe it is an event week or fixed week at the 4 resorts.

Ugh. HHI on July 4th is *miserably* hot and the jellyfish are active. I will never go again on July 4th, let alone pay a premium. Give me a nice October-May week anytime. (I know, this isn't helpful to your answer, but it's one reason why I wouldn't rent that week....)

Anytime from Mid June until the end of July rents well at the MGO. I think 3k is a good number to use for rentals. The 4th of July is hot, crowed horrible traffic and very desirable. HHI is drivable from so many states avoiding flying for families and the reason it is so desirable. Can’t help with how difficult to get with points. It is hard but doable with deeded week at the 13 month window.

No "event weeks" at HH Marriott resorts. They're just high season Platinum weeks.

And despite Marriott's wishes to own as many of those weeks in the trust as they can, I suspect that they've not been able to grab
as many as at other beach resorts. Just a gut feeling.
And also, most owners primarily occupy or rent. At MGO, all platinum weeks from June to August are amazingly popular,
and I honestly couldn't say that any are more popular than the others.

I agree with this!! We went to HHI for July 4th in 2017 and it was sooooo blasted hot. It was 100+ degrees most of the week with 90% humidity on top of the temp!!

I am normally all for HOT when I am at the beach but it was over the top hot and muggy- even the ocean water wasn’t enough to stay cool!

We spent 6 weeks in the Summer of 2020 in South Florida during Covid and even that was nothing in comparison to that HHI July 4th week!

Newbie Marriott weeks owner - what is the designation where you can rent 13 months out instead of 12?

Exactly! And we got stung by baby jellyfish within the first 20 minutes of being at the beach. And the hotel that HGVC put us up at across the street from their resort (we were on a preview package; the fact that we could book something last minute over July 4th should have told us something,) had a postage-stamp sized pool that was barely a different temp (or humidity level, LOL) than the air.

I LOVE HHI. Just not in July or early August. :)

Funny, this is why I am looking to book it but rent it. I'm not a big fan of HHI in the summer. The humidity and crowds make for not my style vacation anymore. But when our kids were young and in school, it's where we usually went because of summer break.

Wish me luck today!

An above poster asked what designation you need to book at 13 months vs. 12 months. That is the Marriott "Owner Select" designation. It requires owning a certain number of points. I can't remember how many - I think it's 5,000.

I'm beyond furtious. I logged in at 9am and nabbed a 3 bedroom Monarch Ocean Front. The crappy reservation system crashed before it booked. I called in and waited 45 minutes and of course the week was gone. Nothing else was available on HHI for fourth of july week 2023.

WTH.

I was on 2 computers and 2 accounts. I got one unit at MGO with one account but only Monday and Tuesday was available with the few second delay on the second account. I was also on the phone and there was nothing there either even though no delay getting through. The good news is that there will be more availability at 12 months out. The last 2 or 3 years I've gotten nothing at 13 months and there was plenty at 12 months out so I'm not overly concerned.

I had the same experience trying to book Maui for next winter at the 13-month window, grabbing the period, room, and view I wanted just as the window opened. I went through the booking process, and it crashed when I hit the booking button, and was no longer available when I went back. Actually, I've had this experience more than once. Lots of choice words for the failures of their IT staff.

Try again at 12-months. You are not likely to get that 3BR at Monarch since there is only 1, but you could still get something at one of the other oceanfront resorts.

I thought I’d share my experience booking HHI this morning. I own platinum GO Oceanside, platinum Barony Oceanside and platinum Surfwatch 3 bedroom garden. I was able to get Sat checkins (7/1) at Barony and Surfwatch but only Sunday was available at GO. I got in right at 9 and had all 3 confirmations by 906. I know others were talking about points but thought I’d share anyway.

Do I understand correctly that you could make 13 month out resy's due to making concurrent weeks reservations?

A very hard week to reserve or exchange into, but a fanatics week to rent. IMHO.

The weekend traffic going into HHI and leaving The Island is very heavy. IMHO.

July 4th on HHI is not a fixed week or an event week. It is a platinum week.

We love going to HHI for the week of the 4th. HHI is also lovely in Oct-May but July allows my children and grandchildren to join us for this wonderful week

Random thoughts, imho........I would say that JULY is the most popular vacation time in America------it's when most everyone takes the traditional "family" vacation.
The reason: kids are out of school! and that's the ONLY reason, because anywhere in or below TN it's dreadfully hot and humid.
(Of course it can get very hot above TN, too......the worst for us was a July 4th vacation in Williamsburg, VA....horrible..... but generally it's below TN
that it's a guaranteed "very hot and humid".)
You can get lucky and it'll be in the upper 80s, but mostly it's somewhere in the 90s, many times approaching 100.
Being able to jump into some nearby water, whether the ocean or a pool, is about the only thing that makes it tolerable.
That said, our family, too, has a history of taking vacations in summer----mostly June when the temps are slightly lower, but still hot.
The Fourth of July holiday allows many families to use the holiday to their advantage, but they must suffer the heat nonetheless. We NEVER do July 4th.

For "drivable" destinations, where does everyone go? Typically Florida.......then other beaches along the East coast...anywhere from North Carolina down to Miami.
But Florida can be a long way to travel for Northerners, so now (since the 70s, 80s, and 90s) they've discovered South Carolina, particularly Hilton Head and Myrtle Beach.
I honestly believe someday Hilton Head will sink :) ----the traffic has become a real nuisance----but that may be true for any nice destination nowadays.
We just returned from 2 weeks at Hilton Head with kids and grandchildren (ages 3 and 1)......it was awesome but it was hot and humid.
Luckily our temps were only in the 86 range, the next week after returning home it averaged 95. Lucky us.
Everybody enjoy.

Hey Buddy, I would expand your list to include from Maine to VA. Millions of northerners head to the beaches all summer long. Although getting to HH on a summer weekend is bad, it’s nowhere near as horrendous as going to any beach location in the northeast, esp The joisey shore, long island, Delaware, and Va beach.
