Hello, we are debating about going to Club Wyndham Shawnee Village. We may take a one or two day trips into New York. Anyone know of the best place to stop in-between the two places to jump on a train to not have to drive the entire way? Would like to take the subway system around NYC instead of having to drive.

Also it shows Fairway Village and the River Village available for our dates. Both costing the same points. Any recommendation between the two?

Thanks for the insights.

There are several posts comparing the sections.
Here is one

Both Fairway Village and River Village are in the "lower" section of the resort area - closer to the actual Shawnee Inn and Resort building and the golf course. River Village II is built into a more hilly area and tends to have more steps and stairs involved to get to at least some of the units (not all - it just depends on the unit you are given). River Village I and Fairway Village are actually down closer to the actual Shawnee Inn itself - and closer to the Gem and Keystone restaurant. If you want easy walking distance on a flat surface to the Inn and the restaurant and/or the country store - choose either River Village I or Fairway Village. If you like being in a more wooded/hilly area then choose River Village II. You can still walk to the Inn and the restaurant from River Village II but it does require walking along a dirt road for a bit that takes you to River Village I which is where the Shawnee Inn resort area starts and is paved. If possible request an updated unit - a subset of units in each area have been updated from what I have gathered. FYI the last couple of times we have gone to Shawnee resort the fireplaces in the units have had signs not to use them as they are waiting on a cleaning and update process for the fireplaces. Just be aware that all of the units you are asking about are older non-Wyndham built units from the 1970's so they feel very dated and not up to the usual Wyndham resort expectations. We personally don't mind this much since we know what to expect - but many folks that aren't familiar with Shawnee are sometimes shocked at the older design and general condition of the older units in particular.

I don’t know about trains but there are buses that run all day from Stroudsburg into Port Authority in NYC. Lots of parking. Go to Martzbus.com for schedules and fares.

Hackettstown is the western edge of the NYC train service for New Jersey Transit. It's about 30 miles from Shawnee Village to Hackettstown.

There is also the PATH Train that goes from the Jersey City NJ area to Manhattan. It runs like a subway from New Jesey.
You would allow you to drive most of the way on your schedule; but avoid the hassle of taking your car into Manhattan.

You can also drive to the NJ Transit Secaucus Junction station. It has parking (granted not cheap) and frequent trains from there to Penn Station. I live in Jersey and use that location when traveling at odd times. Trains from my town can be infrequent during off-peak hours so we drive over there, park and catch a train into the City.

We also like to take the NJ waterway ferry from Port Imperial in Weehawken. Parking is available and the ride across the Hudson to the city is fast and beautiful if the weather cooperates. They have shuttle buses on the NY side that will drop you off at various locations in the city. It's my favorite way to travel in for a show.

Either location would be about an hour + from Shawnee. Hackettstown is the closest option if you don't want to drive to the others.

Enjoy your travels!
