Malta is also following this process. Everyone wearing masks outside here in Portugal as well.Wow, first Canada and now France. What's a traveler to do?

You mean like when a variant is less of a health risk than a previous variant. It's the governments prerogative to change requirements to changing conditions as long as they understand the consequences of their decisions. I will guarantee you that the people who are in the hospitality and travel industry are screaming at their government for ruining their livelihood. I can make a good argument that omicron is less of a severe health issue than Delta. So should they increase their requirements.?Should countries not adjust policies based on current information?

I bet if your lively hood (and putting food on the table for your family) depended on travelers using your goods or services you would feel differently. You might feel that your government overreacted. And you missed the nuance of my response.Thank you for agreeing with me.

By ignoring "the rest" (on purpose) how do you know what the point was? And how do you say "I'm glad you agreed with me" when, in fact, I don't? BTW, these are rhetorical questions.I responded to the main point, and ignored the rest. On purpose.

Bret and others, one of the points of the original post is to point out that governments are continually moving the goal post.
In our specific case we decided on taking the J&J jab last spring (because I have read enough about MrNA technology that makes me feel uncomfortable about the possibility of my immune system being compromised in the future). In early December we decided, reluctantly, to take the booster J&J jab knowing that we had an upcoming trip to Europe in March. Now that France is freaking out about Omicron they moved the goal post again just a few days ago.
I'm done with this BS! I'm not getting another "booster" that has little to no affect on the next variant that is inevitably coming. Have fun getting a booster every 4-6 months for the rest of your lives.
And Bret, it's not known as the health pass anymore, it's called the "vaccination pass".

I'm curious, did you get the J&J booster? And what was your reason for taking the J&J over the MrNA's?We went the same route as you regarding the J&J last spring. It was good enough for Hawaii and Mexico. Covid concerns did kybosh Ireland and the Mediterranean plans for us.

Good to hear that you did your research on vaccines before taking the leap of faith. Your reasons matched our research findings. It's certainly possible that we may regret taking the more conventional vaccine, but I will not take the experimental MrNA "vaccine".For us the vaccine choices did not seem good. Two mRNA vaccines and a Viral Vector all of which were new products regarding humans. We went J&J viral vector because these are not as new as mRNA vaccines. Virial Vector vaccines have been used for a dozen veterinary products and for a few human products with good results. Viral Vector vaccines have been proven to create a magnitude of t cells and antibodies by b cells which create immune memory and had plenty of research and use prior to Covid.
The other consideration was that you can't undo your choice once the vaccine is administered. J&J just seemed a safer choice.

Iam sorry its impacting you and your family, stay safe and hopefully a mild case. Get better real soon.I do feel some empathy for people who did their research and got a vaccine that was approved by their country and are now finding out it is not good enough to participate in activities that they want to participate in. In Canada we had a similar situation with those of us who got astra zeneca as their first shot. Unfortunately with a virus the goal posts keep shifting and will likely continue to do so for a while yet. As I type this as a person fully vaccinated and boosted I am pretty sure that I have Covid. First my daughter got it last week then my son and now me. In Alberta they won't do a PCR test on people like our family as we are not high enough risk. Our health system has lost the ability to test all of those who are even sick. Therefore our reported numbers are way less than the reality. Unfortunately we are not the only province having this problem.
