The "meaningless" song by The Beatles that upset John Lennon

I envy you -- all I can do is content myself with watching Steely Dan on YouTube.

Now that Walter Becker has passed, it'll never be the same. Donald Fagan is touring with new musicians as Steely Dan, and no doubt, it'd still be good, but it wouldn't be the same. Kind of like how it was when we saw Journey in Las Vegas in 2019. The new lead singer is incredible, and sounds enough like Steve Perry to get away with it - but he's not Steve Perry. It was a great show, and I'd highly recommend seeing them if you're a fan, but give the new singer a bit of slack - he stepped into some enormous shoes.

We had the outstanding privilege of seeing Steely Dan at the Paramount Theater in Seattle about 2009. They were doing two nights of shows, set up as one entire album per night. They played "Aja" the first night, and "The Royal Scam" the second night. We had tickets for the second of the two nights.

We had great seats, and their performance was spot on - note perfect to the album. Absolutely fantastic show. The audience loved it, and Steely Dan responded in kind. When they got done playing every note of The Royal Scam, they turned right around, said, "What the heck?" and played every note of Aja. What??? And then, as an encore, they threw in a number of their other hits, just for fun. The show ran for about three hours, and they rocked every minute of it. Simply fantastic! Probably the best concert I'd attended, up to that point.

I wish I went to a Steely Dan concert. I became a fan with the Can't Buy A Thrill album. Lucky you seeing them at the Paramount.

The Paramount was a perfect venue for them - just big enough, and with great acoustics. My Jeff gets all the credit for us attending that show. He is a *major* Steely Dan fan. Has every album, collection, remix - you name it. He loves the band. And I have to say, I'm agreeing with him. I look forward to listening to their music, especially on the killer music system in the car - with the dozen or so speakers. Sounds amazing. :D
