Good morning slip. Warning do not go out and drive around the Big Island in this snow blizzard to take photos of the snow.

In the Tidewater Virginia area when we received 4 inches of snow in one day or night, everything is closed ( cities & state government offices, schools & public transportation are halted ).

Watch the beautiful snow from your warm building.

Aloha

Who would've thought? We need that snow in Tahoe and Colorado...crazy spring-like weather in Norcal. 75 degrees and sunny last week. Very unusual.

Aloha and Good Morning Pedro.

You don't have to worry about that. I've seen enough of that to last my lifetime and I really don't care if I would ever see it again.

Heck, In Wisconsin, we wouldn't even slow down for 4 inches, let alone close anything.

Otherwise, we are in a cool period. Supposed to rain all weekend and there are flood warnings out for all the islands. Cloudy and dreary yesterday and it only got up to 79 degrees.

So far, Winter hasn't made an appearance. It's warm enough that the ski resorts can't even make snow- let alone natural stuff falling from the sky. Maybe next week, the prognostigators say. We'll see.

Hard to imagine, but I would love to experience it. We were on Big Island in November but never made it up to high elevations.
Colorado needs snow NOW to prevent wild fires and start real ski season we are all waiting for. Hopefully we get some next week.

Colorado is getting a big storm next week. It was 80 degrees two days ago in Denver. Rare for December.

My daughter told me that Hawaii has had more snow this year than Denver. We're very late in getting snow in New Mexico this year. I have pictures on Thanksgiving going back several years where the ground was covered with snow. Right now we're in the high 50's to low 60's.

Given that Denver has gotten no snow yet this year, that is not hard to believe.

Kurt

My daughter lives in Denver and she was telling me the same thing.

It hasn't snowed here in Mesquite. LOL! :D

Snow on top of the Big Island volcanoes would be great to see. I remember pictures way back in the day, of snow skiers in bathing suits. :D

When it does snow in Mesquite, be sure to post a picture. :D

You can count on it! :D

The coldest I remember it ever being when I lived on Oahu was in December of 1969, when there was a massive storm north of the islands, that sent a lot of cold Alaska air toward Hawaii. I think it got down to something like 50 degrees? I just remember it being really cold. That was one of the years when they had 60-foot surf at Waimea. The waves would crash on the beach, roll up the sand, across the parking lot, and into the trees on the other side of the road. It was pretty incredible.

The other day it was warmer in Denver than anywhere in Florida.

Lynne, I hope you didn't put on your Snow tires and drive up for this picture. :ROFLMAO:

We got down to 62 last night. How about you over there?
Temp got down to 60 and more rain than we have had in months, even our hens went inside their coop for warmth. Knowing that that North Kohala would feel the brunt of the rain, we did all of our shopping on Friday. Our prior home in Honokaa has received 3 inches of rain in the past 24 hours. We were there in the late morning yesterday and the weather was sunny, As the saying goes in Hawaii, if you don't like the weather where you are currently, there is always a another climate type within an easy drive.

I do have a 4 wheel drive, but no snow tires, or chains. I think they may have evacuated the Onizuka Center but I am not sure. There is a program (currently suspended due to covid) where we were able to participate as Hawaii residents. It is called the Once your most wonderful spouse fully recovers and the program starts up again, you may want to try for a spot. It is the Kama'aina Observatory Experience and it is a once in a lifetime chance to tour two of the observatories and meet the scientists and engineers. We were lucky enough to tour the Subaru and James Clerk Maxwell telescope. https://kamaainaobservatoryexperience.org/

Please tell me that is not real snow in this photo. Their must be over 30 inches of snow in this photo. LOL

It's a real photo. From some poor soul's house in Minnesota. No thanks! @slip is from Wisconsin, but I know he's seen snow like that more than a few times in his life. I just hope he isn't taking it to Molokai with him! :D

Yep, sounds like all the islands are going to get rain. That was another reason I went shopping yesterday too. I'm sure you are glad you plannee ahead.

That experience sounds awesome. Big Island will be on our list when I retire. It's one Island we have a lot of exploring to do yet. We never came close to doing everything we wanted there. My wife hasn't been to Hilo. I have been there for work a few times and I know she would enjoy that too. Not to mention the volcano and now the observatory.

@slip, is this really your condo on Molokai??

:D Dave

Heck, I thought you pulled that out of a history file of the last snow in Mesquite. :ROFLMAO:

I actually have a similar photo from our deck in Wisconsin that is close to that one. I don't miss that one bit.

Ok, so then it's NOT your condo on Molokai? I was worried! :D

And If it ever snows like that in Mesquite, I am OUTTA HERE! ;)

I was surprised to look today and it's 68 degrees here in Honolulu right now and 78 degrees in Ulapu'e on Molokai where out condo is.
