I don´t stay in hotels much so always get confused. With titanium elite status do I automatically get breakfast & lounge access if they have them? Or I need to book the rooms that offer that? My thinking is I should book the basic room as this is a perk I get anyway but really not sure!!

Room does not matter to get the lounge/breakfast access where available. Titanium may actually get you a room upgrade if you’re lucky.

Great so just book a standard room and I will get the perks anyway and possibly an upgrade? I will also request suite awards.

I don't know how it is today but years ago I used to stay in Marriotts maybe 150 nights a year. This made me top of the line whatever they called it back then. All I did was book a standard room and perks, lounge access, upgrades, etc. were there without me asking. But who knows in today's world? Stuff changes...

Same system today but we have found each resort has different policies. I think we will hit 170 Marriott nights this year.

Thanks all, just wanted to check I was on the right lines!!

The secret level at 150 plus nights was Platinum Premiere. Now it is called ambassador and they added a huge spend requirement. Upgrades are hit and miss right now as Titanium because some hotels are not opening all rooms and/or housekeeping is behind and making rooms ready. And most of the people doing traveling right now are people who travel a lot. Last hotel I was at, almost everyone was Platinum or Titanium. Lounge access is a perk, if the lounge is open.

Theoretically yes, you should automatically get breakfast if it is offered, but as hotels and their restaurants reopen elite members have reported only getting a voucher instead of a full breakfast at some properties. You will get lounge access if it is open.

I would call the property to see what you will get in terms of lounge/breakfast. Most of the concierge lounges have been closed throughout Covid. Even with properties that offer free breakfast, they have had grab and go rather that buffet

I also call. If there's no lounge, will I get a breakfast credit in the hotel restaurant?

Many full service properties have added junk fees. As an elite, will I get a discount on the resort fee or parking fee?

The complimentary daily breakfast benefit for Platinum Elite and above varies by hotel brand. Marriott has 30 or more brands, depending on which list you use.

Some Marriott Bonvoy brands are excluded from the complimentary daily breakfast benefit: Design Hotels, Edition, Fairfield Asia Pacific hotels, Gaylord Hotels, Marriott Executive Apartments, Marriott Vacation Club, and other timeshares.

At some brands, you can choose complimentary daily breakfast in the restaurant for member + 1 as a Welcome Gift.

At some brands, complimentary breakfast is not a Welcome Gift choice, but you are guaranteed executive lounge access. If the lounge is closed or there is no lounge, you get complimentary daily breakfast in the restaurant for member + 1. Technically, it's continental breakfast, but most hotels allow you to have eggs and breakfast meats too.

At some brands, you can choose a daily $10 food & beverage credit for member and an additional a daily $10 food & beverage credit for one additional guest as a Welcome Gift. But that's usually not enough to pay for breakfast.

Other brands provide daily breakfast to all guests, regardless of Marriott Bonvoy membership.

It's even more complicated during the pandemic, with some hotels using the pandemic to limit or eliminate breakfast benefits, apparently with the blessing of Marriott International for the time being.

The important thing is to book your reservation at Marriott.com or by phone with Marriott or directly with the hotel. Provide your Marriott Bonvoy number. Pay for your room yourself with a credit card, cash, Marriott Bonvoy points, or Marriott Bonvoy e-certifcates. If you book through a vacation package provider or through companies like Expedia, you won't get your benefits.

You must book with a qualifying rate. Most public rates qualify, including standard rates, advance purchase rates, AAA rates, senior rates, Marriott Bonvoy member rates, readily available promotional rates, and many (but not all) corporate rates. Some rates don't qualify, including Marriott employee/family rates and negotiated rates that specifically exclude benefits.

As long as you're using a qualifying rate, the type of room does not matter (except that you might get a better upgrade at hotels that try to move you up one category). You get elite benefits in any case. You might be upgraded, but don't count on it. Never book a room that you would not want. "Upgrade" does not necessarily mean a suite. It could also be a better view, or a larger room, or a room with a balcony. In any case, as an elite member, you're unlikely to get the worst room in the hotel, but you're also extremely unlikely to be upgraded to the presidential suite.

Being a Marriott Bonvoy member at the Platinum Elite tier and above is better than not being one. Your benefits tend to be better as you move up the brand structure from the lower-end brands to the higher-end brands. But if complimentary breakfast is important, keep in mind that some brands don't offer this benefit.

Google "Marriott Bonvoy Loyalty Program Terms & Conditions" for all details and exceptions.

Benefits vary by hotel brand, as somewhat ambiguously listed on the Marriott website. General rule of thumb (in my limited experience) is you might get a fancier breakfast at a more expensive hotel, where as breakfast might already be included at some of the family oriented brands. I generally look for places with a buffet, as restaurant credit doesn’t go very far at business hotels.

The big curve ball is COVID - buffets may not be available in some areas, and the alternatives may be limited. I would definitely follow previous suggestions about calling.

I am Titanium elite and its for the JW Marriott in Phuket, I booked a room I am happy with but also have put in a request to use my suite awards, lets see!

For what it is worth, we used points to stay an extra few days on Maui after our week at MOC. Booked at Marriott Wailea for 3 nights and 4 days Marriott Wailea for a 1 room King garden view for 130K points. They upgraded us to a beautiful ocean view. Cash price for the room is over $1000/night!! Our flight leaves Maui at 10pm and they are allowing us to check out at 7pm. Only downside is the continental breakfast is a bit stingy… coffee, pasty, fruit cup at the Starbucks or Whale Tail. Nice gifts on arrival…flower lei, tropical drink, bag of goodies included a box of shortbread cookies, lip balm, hand sanitizer spray, tickets for free mai tai. I am a Bonvoy titanium member.

It’s interesting that they kept texting me at MOC asking if I needed anything. They thought I was Chairman’s level in MVC. I certainly would be if all my weeks were enrolled but I bought all my weeks resale and have not enrolled any weeks. I certainly did not correct them and will be interested to see if we get the same messages when we come back in December.

We also stayed a night in the Sheraton Kaanapali when we arrived. I used points for a garden view room. They upgraded us to an Ocean View room this time. When we came last December, they upgraded us to an ocean front.

Last time we stayed on Bonvoy Pts at the Marriott Wailea in Maui they also upgraded us to a nice ocean view room and two free drink tickets for being platinum (at that time.). It was great. However, at that time…I think we still had to pay the “resort fee”. Did you not have to?

The Points Guy website has a good table of all the brands and how breakfast is provided for plat and above members. However, some properties may not have their on-site restaurant open these days due to health or staffing issues and you might get some credits with the sundries store instead.

Some properties might just not provide the benefit at all and Marriott HQ is giving the green light for this practice citing a lot of properties got hammered hard these two years and there is a balance Marriott needs to strike between hotel owners and elite members. I haven't encountered any of these this year but it is possible.

I would also look at Flyertalk under the Marriott thread. There are a number of posts regarding current benefits or lack thereof. There is also a thread on Suite Night Awards (SNA) successes and which rooms are worth requesting As well as a thread on upgrades. Also as Werner noted above, each hotel page on the Marriott Bonvoy website is supposed to have a page on current benefits available.

Yes. We paid a resort fee of $38/day and paid $30/day to self park the car. It is $40 to valet park the car.

Ouch. $68/day is a hefty surcharge for some elements IMO should be free (wifi, parking, etc). :). At least you got the ocean view upgrade and some extras to boot (Leis, free drinks, etc)!

The infinity pool at the Wailea is nice!

I was saying the same to my wife. Those resort fees are ridiculous. When people are paying over $1000 a room it seems like they should just include it in the cost. It’s a big turn off but I guess all the high end resorts are doing it. I was just happy that they allowed us to stay in our room the whole day until 7pm since we had a 10 pm flight. Usually we have to use the courtesy suite at MOC after we check out of our room at 10 am. It was really nice to spend an entire day relaxing, taking a nap, then heading off to the airport. I am only titanium level so I was just hoping for a 4pm checkout. Despite all the extra fees, I would stay there again.

The points are a crazy redemption, cash rate is 300$ for 2 nights and points 90.000 (according to points guy value is 0.8 per point). I asked about breakfast and they said this, I am not sure if that means they are not offered it or it was because I choose a "room only" rate, do I need to chose the one with breakfast? Surely if advertising a room + breakfast rate then they do offer breakfast?

Kindly be informed that lounge access and complimentary breakfast are NOT be granted JW Marriott Phuket Resort & Spa. As per Marriott Bonvoy Titanium Elite Member will be entitled to choose platinum arrival gift either

-receive a Food&Beverage option
-Bonus points, or
-select breakfast in restaurant for 2 person per stay

At JW Marriott resorts (and resorts of quite a few other Marriott Bonvoy brands), there is no lounge, no lounge guarantee, and no lounge alternative.

However, you can choose complimentary daily breakfast in the restaurant for member + 1 as your Welcome Gift if you're Platinum Elite, Titanium Elite, or Ambassador Elite. That's instead of 1,000 Marriott Bonvoy points or a F&B credit/amenity as your Welcome Gift. Choosing breakfast is a much better value. You get to choose just one Welcome Gift per stay, regardless of the length of your stay, but the restaurant breakfast Welcome Gift choice is for member + 1 is for each morning of your stay. In other words, for a five-night stay, you get five breakfasts for two. You don't get breakfast on your check-in day, even if you arrive early in the morning, but you get breakfast on your check-out day.

The breakfast benefit works differently at JW Marriott hotels. At JW Marriott hotels, but not at JW Marriott resorts, you get breakfast for member + 1 in the lounge. If the elite/executive lounge is closed or there is no lounge, then you get daily breakfast in the restaurant for member + 1. This is in addition to the Welcome Gift. Daily breakfast in the restaurant is not a Welcome Gift choice at JW Marriott hotels. If you're staying at a JW Marriott resort, you should ignore how it works at JW Marriott hotels.

If the JW Marriott Phuket Resort & Spa only offers breakfast one morning of your stay instead of daily, then the property is in violation of the Marriott Bonvoy Loyalty Program Terms & Conditions — and it owes you USD$100 in compensation — and it still owes you daily breakfast for member + 1.

Marriott Elite benefits apply to room-only rates.

Thank you so much for all this info, this is what I thought, that I am entitled but I was not sure and do not want to say anything without being sure.
