At our country club, last Saturday we attended an Evening in Spain event. About 50 people attended the event, tapas style buffet and we also had a Spanish singer.

On Sunday, we had 2 couples come over for dinner at our home, including one couple who had attended the event. My husband had a bit of cough overnight on Monday or Tuesday and I asked him what that was about. He complained of having significant post nasal drip. He takes Zyrtec and a nasal spray to control his allergy symptoms year round. It got a little worse, developing what appeared to me as a head cold by Wednesday. At the back of my mind, I wondered if he had COVID.

On Thursday, one of our friends who had come over to our house for dinner on Sunday called me to let me know that her friend at her table at the Spanish dinner event had been tested positive for COVID. Because of that, she had then gone to get tested on Wednesday and she was also tested positive. She had allergies symptoms. Since she was at our home on Sunday, it would have been too fast for her to have been contagious. However, with my husband's symptoms, we scheduled for a COVID test at CVS on Friday (yesterday).

After taking the tests, we were told that the test results would not be available for another 24-48 hours. We then contacted our PCP immediately who was quite certain that my husband had COVID and I would also have gotten, living in the same household. He asked us to buy home test kits. Many of the stores have run out of supply so we ended up with a couple of fairly expensive home test kits as the less expensive ones were out of stock. My husband tested positve and I tested negative. Our PCP prescribed him antibiotics which I picked up this morning. The CVS test results came in today, and my husband had tested positive and mine was negative.

Since then, we were informed that the Spanish singer and another person whom we know at the Saturday event also caught COVID. We do not know who else at the dinner caught the COVID. All 5 people who caught COVID had been vaccinated. My husband had Moderna and I had Pfizer. I think there was a non-vaccinated super spreader at the dinner event.

I've heard about non-vaccinated people spreading the COVID virus
Hope your husband completely recovers

Sorry to hear about this. Hopefully, since both you and your husband were vaccinated, any symptoms will be minor. That has been the trend.

Thank you. My husband's symptoms are like a head cold with mild congestion. I feel 100% fine and 2 negative tests cannot be wrong, and I played a round of golf today on my own. I try to stay away from others because I don't want people to freak out that my husband has COVID.

Why was he prescribed antibiotics for COVID?

I think that vaccinated people can catch and spread COVID, just at a reduced rate. The main thing is keeping people out of the hospital.
Hope your husband completely recovers
As do I

Are you staying somewhere else? your negative a can be a positive at time that he is still sick if not.

We have a quarantine system at home whenever one of us is sick and it usually works well. I get food to him and he eats in a different location in the home. I usually retreat to a guest room with its own bathroom etc.

Speedy recovery!

Were people wearing masks at this event?

Hope your husband feels better and you sta well
our club started events in May and they are usually attended by 150 people. I have been worried about the same thing happening.

Was this original event at your country club indoors or outdoors?

The event was indoors. We have had many events held indoors since our governor removed masks and table size mandates. The one that made me nervous was the July 4th event where they put 10 to a table. Never did I imagine that sitting at a table for 2 at this Spanish Night event would be high risk. Our food was handed to us by servers.

Our July 4th event was attended by 150 people, and they had 10 to a table. People were talking across and over each other. I was a little stressed that evening but there wasn't a report of someone picking up COVID from that dinner.

Add my voice in hoping continued health to you and a speedy recovery to your DH. At least you can take solace in making the good decision to get vaccinated. Your risk and level of worry is down by 90 some percent.

Getting vaccinated was never a question and we got them as soon as they were available to us. We have our flu shots every year and believe that vaccinations save lives. Now we are wondering if my husband got his too soon because protection wanes over time.

The vaccines are not 100% effective. Each has a small percentage that can slip through but the degree of illness is supposed to be much smaller - less severe - if you do get it.

I hope your husband gets well quickly.
