At our country club, last Saturday we attended an Evening in Spain event. About 50 people attended the event, tapas style buffet and we also had a Spanish singer.
On Sunday, we had 2 couples come over for dinner at our home, including one couple who had attended the event. My husband had a bit of cough overnight on Monday or Tuesday and I asked him what that was about. He complained of having significant post nasal drip. He takes Zyrtec and a nasal spray to control his allergy symptoms year round. It got a little worse, developing what appeared to me as a head cold by Wednesday. At the back of my mind, I wondered if he had COVID.
On Thursday, one of our friends who had come over to our house for dinner on Sunday called me to let me know that her friend at her table at the Spanish dinner event had been tested positive for COVID. Because of that, she had then gone to get tested on Wednesday and she was also tested positive. She had allergies symptoms. Since she was at our home on Sunday, it would have been too fast for her to have been contagious. However, with my husband's symptoms, we scheduled for a COVID test at CVS on Friday (yesterday).
After taking the tests, we were told that the test results would not be available for another 24-48 hours. We then contacted our PCP immediately who was quite certain that my husband had COVID and I would also have gotten, living in the same household. He asked us to buy home test kits. Many of the stores have run out of supply so we ended up with a couple of fairly expensive home test kits as the less expensive ones were out of stock. My husband tested positve and I tested negative. Our PCP prescribed him antibiotics which I picked up this morning. The CVS test results came in today, and my husband had tested positive and mine was negative.
Since then, we were informed that the Spanish singer and another person whom we know at the Saturday event also caught COVID. We do not know who else at the dinner caught the COVID. All 5 people who caught COVID had been vaccinated. My husband had Moderna and I had Pfizer. I think there was a non-vaccinated super spreader at the dinner event.
