Windows 11 won't work on your PC without a TPM how to check

I have TPM but discovered that Win 11 won't work with older processors. The laptop I bought in December 2017 has a Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-7300HQ CPU @ 2.50GHz that is not on the compatibility list. If you download Microsoft's app, you can find out if your PC is compatible, but if it isn't, it won't tell you why. Here's a link to the app for checking if it's compatible.

Since a long time, Microsoft created a good OS every two generations only.
Windows 98SE : good
Windows Millennium: bad
Windows XP: good
Windows Vista: bad
Windows 7: good
Windows 8: bad
Windows 10: good
Windows 11: ???.
So, people should not stress about their current computers don't have TPM to run Windows 11 because there is a big chance that Windows 11 will be a crappy OS.

Microsoft's penchant for constant change is irritating...

George

I think they upgrade for increased computer memory, new programs, security features, etc.
My android phone upgrades every month. I keep thinking it will eventually block the spam calls

Windows 11 here's all the features Microsoft just killed.

I never understood why Microsoft put the taskbar at the bottom. Programs usually put their choices at the top. If the taskbar is at the bottom, you're moving the mouse up and down all the time. I always have moved the taskbar to the top. Now I have a very good reason not to feel bad about not being able to load Windows 11 on either of my PC's. According to the article:

The taskbar can only be used at the bottom of the screen: you can’t pin it to other sides of the screen in Windows 11.

Thanks for this. I will further investigate. I have a i7-3770 which is still buzzing along strong. I have been running Windows 10 with the most recent update (May 2021). That story links through to a file that states my i7 is NOT compatible with the last several versions of windows I have been using. I wonder if this is an absolute won't work or just not "Certified" for use.

UPDATE: Looks like my chip has TPM 1.2. Windows 11 needs TPM 2.0.

Its called innovation ;). Without it we would still be in DOS or not have the PC. I like SOME of the enhancements and changes. Especially when it impacts stability (remember the blue screen of death that was a daily occurrence?). What annoys me is when they unnecessarily change the menus,
functions and operations in MS Office.

Looking forward to all those cheap, used computers that won't run Win 11.

(I run Win 7 on a 10 year old Zotac nano computer. It cost me $30 as a refurb. it's a sterile box (no virus worries), on a KMV switcher along with my other nano computers. (I already owned a retail Win 7 pro retail license.)

I run Linux Mint with Cinnamon. Like Windows, it needs to be updated every so often (usually every few years), but I haven't paid $0.01 for software in over 12 years! I dual-boot with Windows 10, since iTunes does not work in Linux, and I make sure it gets all the updates. I only use Microsoft's antivirus.

If your computer is powerful enough for Windows 11, you most likely have a TPM Chip. They have been added to computers since Windows 7.

That chip was released 9 years ago. It is a great-grandfather in computer ages.

My Core i5-7300HQ processor was released 3 January 2017, and it's not on their list either.

I just bought an 11th generation Intel for my daughter for gaming. Not sure what hers can do that mine can’t, except for high end gaMing. I’ve used them both and checked benchmarks. No need to upgrade anytime soon.

I know I‘ll Be maligned, but I do not miss any of my PC’s. The windows platform is awful. Never had a minutes trouble with our IMac or MacBook. And I was never an Apple guy until PC’s just became too frustrating.

That makes no sense. ATOM processor which have a fraction of the power of your processor are eligible for upgrade.

I would hope that they will update their requirements.

It is probably due to some of the newer features that more recent CPUs have. It certainly should be good enough in respects of raw power.

I wouldn't use it for gaming, but I think that it is fine for office applications or the internet.

According to many articles this morning, there is typical Microsoft confusion about which hardware will work with Win 11. Give it a couple of weeks for the chaos management style of Microsoft to sort itself out and then there should be a glimmer of what will be required to run Win 11
