We are not newbies but have not used our points very well thru the years and now that we are retiring want to get up to speed on how the Wyndham system works. We have been owners for many years, first with Fairfield, now Wyndham. Our 154,000 point, 20 year Contract with El Cid La Ceiba, Cozumel Mexico terminates on 3/21/23. We also own 154,000 points at Grand Desert so 308,000 points total. We are Grandfathered VIP. When our El Cid contract terminates we will be back to our 154,000 points. We are wondering if PIC Plus would be a way for us to keep our VIP? We have not asked Wyndham corporate yet to see how to handle this. Do we still have to maintain only 308,000 points as that was what we were grandfathered in when Wyndham bought Fairfield? Is it better to do this now rather than wait until we get closer to the Contract termination date?

Wyndham calculates your grandfathered points to determine if you are VIP eligible on that basis. After El Cid La Ceiba expires, you will only have 154K grandfathered points. I'm pretty certain a PIC would be dated when it is brought into to your membership, so you would need sufficient points under the current ungrandfathered structure to achieve VIP. As with any other question, I think Owner Services will give you a more reliable answer than any of us. If you ask a salesman he'll just want to sell you a contract.

This whole thread looks like it would be more appropriate to the Wyndham Forum. It isn't a 'newbie' issue and it doesn't look like a 'Mexican TS' issue either

It would, I saw it in New Posts and didn't even notice which forum it was in....

I think you may be kind of screwed. I am not even sure if you buy up another 154,000 before the el cid expires (with or without pic) if you will remain grandfathered VIP when the El Cid drops off. You might even lose the unlimited housekeeping. If you do buy anything make sure they write in that you retain your grandfathered status at above 300,000 even when the El Cid drops off. Otherwise don't buy anything and you might want to give back you other week with certified exit.

Thank you for your response! We will contact Owner Services.

Can you extend or repurchase your contract El Cid?

Awwww El Cid properties. These are the redheaded stepchild of Wyndham. Ya know the kid that got away with a bunch of stuff the other kids could not, but paid for it as an adult.
El Cid is no longer sold as a part of Wyndham. It now has its own vacation club. So purchasing additional points would do nothing for you.
When I called owner services about this a few years ago the sales Dept would not even sell me CWA points to cover the points that were going to expire the rep told me they were not allowed to sell to El Cid members. I figured if he could have sold to keep me where I wanted to be would have cost 15,000.00. I might have paid it then. Now with what Wyndham is doing to VIP owners relating to Guest Confirmations I wouldn’t buy anything from them.

I have over 1,000,000 pts that will be expiring between 2022-2025. I had 244,000 pts expire in 2019 and one day they were gone from my account with my VIP status and 6 other EL CID contracts that did not expire. It was a whole mess. Finally only got straightened out because I emailed the CEO and begged for help, whomever looks at his email passed it along and that rep handled it. Even though all I now owned were resale contracts.
When my VIP status goes away again I’ll still have a few non El Cid contracts over 600,000 pts that are resale. I’ll use those the best way I can for my personal travel or priority booking.

IMO you should learn to use 154,000 pts to your advantage or give them back to Wyndham. If your Grand Desert are developer points telesales might figure something out for you it will be costly. If these are resale points your doomed. Buy a different system like Worldmark resale or another one recommended on TUG.
For the love of GOD don’t talk to sales at a resort.

Please let us know how it all turns out and what you decide to do. Good Luck

Thanks for the response. We are going to call Member Services and see what they say. Our Grand Desert are developer points and we do want to keep them and probably add to them what we have to stay silver VIP. We have gone to a few "Updates" and are fully aware of how they operate and do not trust anything they tell us, LOL!

Don't forget that new silver vip's don't get unlimited housekeeping.

Telesales might be able to figure a way to Grandfather you into Silver VIP because that is what you are now. As I say quite often in all customer service it only takes one person to click the right button and override the system.
If you can stand it you might consider going to a couple of presentations if you can say no and get the loot. This would give you an idea of how much points would cost. Grand Desert Sales might be your best bet.
