Favorite Hawaii Marriott Westin Resorts

Interval search defaulted to Thursday check-in so I started the search on Thursday. I may have to have 1 -2 days overlap between reservations. Thank you for all these valuable information.
II's rules say they'll match you automatically for Friday, Saturday or Sunday but call for Monday or Thursday. I'm told, but haven't done it, that you can call II and they can further limit to specific check in days that are more restrictive.

I learned just today that all II defaults any request made on line to Thursday to Thursday. It can be overridden to address the gap, but you need to call and have one of the agents do it. There seems to be a logic to this on their end but I thought their computer system was having issues!

Here is the policy s stated on the Website.
Request Confirmation Policy
Note: The system defaults for searching purposes to the Thursday prior to the dates you have entered. You may be confirmed without contact up to 30-days prior to the travel date requested for a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday check-in for any resorts included in your request. You may also be confirmed into any resort or time period requested, regardless of the order in which they are listed, without prior contact. For check-ins on Monday through Thursday, you will be contacted by Interval prior to confirmation. Once the request is confirmed, you have 24 hours to cancel for a full refund. Additionally, if for some reason we are unable to confirm your request, you will receive a full refund for your exchange fee.

I didn't mind the Thursday before the weekend that I requested, but the issue for me is likely what pinetree1 was facing also; I wanted the week before a confirmed week I have so needed the request to go all the way to Sunday (when my next reservation starts), not stop at Thursday. That is where I fail to understand the logic of this policy.

As you found out, you can further restrict your request by calling. I knew this was true previously but it'd been a while since I had confirmation so I didn't want to state it too strongly. You actually can do a request that gets you both weeks or none but the problem with any restrictions you place will further decrease your chance of success. For example, the 2 weeks or none will make it almost impossible as they won't hold one week waiting on the other when requested that way and you'd have to be at the top of the list to get both weeks.

We did this basic thing with our last 2 HI trips. We reserved directly on weeks and points then as we got exchanges we submitted those and canceled other reservations. We had specific dates we needed for the first week but given the volume, we ended up requiring specific weeks for specific resorts (MVC's for Maui Ko Olina and Waiohai). Personally if requesting a full 12-13 months out I'd just make the requests for everything and hope for the best with a backup plan for cash if something didn't come through. Obviously the more flexibility one can add the more the chance of success.

As for the Thursday or Monday, if they get one that matches otherwise and you're up next, they'll hold it for a period of time and either call or send you an email. Same for resorts that otherwise match but you didn't request. I've gotten maybe 10 emails for other MVC resorts for our HHI trip this summer at MGO. I've had notifications of SP, HP (several times), Harbour Club, Heritage and Monarch but not Barony or Surfwatch.

I too get "matches" for weeks that are close but not what I want. Just got an II match for Ocean Pointe for a studio for a 1 bdrm Four Seasons deposit (where we own) so I just let it go by.

I have been advised by II that when wanting a two week (or more) period using two deposited weeks, to get the first week match and they will try to help match around it. So far I have had 100% success with that (probably done 3 or 4 now) so hoping for the same this summer on Maui.

I would agree. The more flexible you can be the better. Another way to do it is to concentrate on the most difficult option then try to match around that, for this example that would be Maui.

@pinetree1
I agree that you must get your Maui exchange confirmed first, then adjust your ongoing search for the dates on your other island(s).
KAA and KAN do not deposit 2 bedroom units into II. Your only 2 bedroom option for Westin is Nanea WNA. Include both MMO (hotel conversion, no stove) and MM1 (purpose built timeshare, full kitchen) in your search.

I am just trying to get the week before or after for Maui, in Maui. I have put in the all Westins (don't really need more than a studio - solo trip) and the Marriotts and threw in the Hyatt, which has about 0% chance, but easy to ask for. You never know! Any of them would be wonderful in the year the flood gates to Hawaii opened.
