How to cancel my Marriott Points mortgage??

Not me... I was the schmuck who sold himself...... I looked through the interval resort catalogue (back then it was a 200 page book) and said oh wow I can go here? And here?! And here?!? What a moron..... in my defense the MF were 800 at the time. Seemed reasonable lol. 20 years later I found tug and realized how stupid I was. For the record, 20 years later is too late to rescind lol.
LOL, that's a common sales trick that some of the more unscrupulous sales people have used and you did it to yourself.

We were lucky. I did the DVC tour back in the early 90's but decided it was too much. This was before AG invented the internet and I then followed DVC on Prodigy. I started looking for a resale and found one from a newspaper. I'm thinking it was USA Today back when they had ads. By accounts I was the first resale buyer for DVC, at least that wasn't a direct family member. That set me off on timeshares and I joined TUG early on. I bought my first Marriott resale but direct from Marriott as a trading unit at HP. Not my best decision but at least I didn't buy Spicebush or Swallowtail. Later we bought more Marriot's then some non MVC trading units. Ultimately we bought 2 weeks from MVC retail, both very structured and calculated purchase. Also bought 3000 Bluegreen points resale to enroll our trading weeks into their points system. That BG retail purchase was probably the best move I've made in all of my timesharing purchase decisions both financially and otherwise.

Wow, you are a pioneer!! I wish I found TUG the minute I was about to sign the dotted line.

How are the BG resorts? I’ve been under the vistana/Marriott spell and I need to expand my experience outside of those systems. I think you read and responded about my SIL wanting to buy a DVC. I am all in but then I read great things about WBC and how much people love that resort. That may be a better option. I sure do not need another ownership, 4 is enough! I’ve been checking and do not see much availability in WBC in RCI points, which makes me think 300K Wyndham points may be good enough for them.

WBC is a great resort! I have seen it available in RCI a few times, but the easiest route to stay there if you don't own Wyndham would be to just rent it from an existing owner. It is a very very popular rental resort. You could check the listing on eBay, but I would just rent from one of the many Platinum Wyndham owners on TUG.

I think BG is a lot like Wyndham. Some really good resort and some not so good. They don't have as many resort but they cover some areas that are not well covered otherwise by most. For example, they have 2 in Charleston, 1 in Savannah, 1 in Gatlinburg and 1 in Pigeon Forge. The 2 Wyndham options are far out, good if you want the outlets but not a great locations otherwise IMO. I haven't been to Branson but the resorts there get high marks, at least the ones around Tablerock lake. Tradewinds St. Pete beach and 2 of the Daytona area resort are good as well. It has worked well for me. I had a number of weeks in Aruba to rent/exchange and was able to enroll them into the club for a minimal purchase and get them all qualified. As with most systems, they've moved to limiting options for resale buyers and their transfer fees have gotten high, esp for smaller contracts.

IMO DVC is great if it's mainly for DVC at the parks and one values staying on property. We do even though we're happy with other options as well. DVC is horrible for non park locations. The 3 non park DVC resorts are nice but there are similar options that are as nice or nicer for HHI and FL east coast and similar for HI at Ko Olina. If they want to do Disney and other things, Wyndham is likely the best balance of options and price. I'd say though that for many DVC isn't as much more as it sounds on the surface when you look at usage. A lot of people don't cook so a studio may be fine. DVC is very flexible in terms of unit size, length of stay, time of year and even which resort (with some availability issues). For many, doing both resale is the best options, I would not buy retail for DVC with some extremely rare exceptions.

See, I cook and love a balcony with full table and chairs. I spent a week in SVV and spent an hour it two on the balcony with coffee and my iPad. I’m hoping to do the same and also have sunset dinners in AKV this week. I guess I’ll be holding a plate in my lap

If you're in a studio it's not too bad but just a microwave, coffee pot and paper/plastic other than coffee cups. No cooking dishes but you can ask for additional items. The balconies aren't too bad. Now for a 1 BR it has a nice full kitchen with basically everything MVC has. And for Kidani in a 1 BR, it's 2 baths who which is very nice even for 2 people or 3 baths for a 2 BR.

We really like AKV even though it's a little farther out. Just long halls, even worse than BWV in some cases. Enjoy, we're there in a couple of months for a week.

They have me in the zebra village. I can’t complain it was a good use of RCI points lol

You're in Kidani? I'm not familiar with Zebra Village for Kidani, only Zebra Trail for Jambo.

We were just at Kidani in the Rafiki wing last week. IIRC the studio lock off side only had the paper cups as I did not see any coffee cups. Granted I did not look very hard in those cupboards but just opened them and looked. Great stay at Kidani as it was not very crowded and wife loved the relaxing time. Firepits were not lit and no activities. It was in the 30's and 40's in mornings and afternoon so did not get to even check out the pools. Buses were very uncrowded and came every 10-15 minutes for each park. Actually the best bus service of all time as there were barely any lines for the bus. Getting on the first bus when we closed out epcot a few nights.

They sell a small package with the plan to get you to add more on later when you realize 1,500 isn't enough.

Actually, the salesman will sell whatever you are willing to buy. And if you come back to buy more all the better for the company, but you the original salesman does not get that commission. Having sold this stuff, the line is "you have 90 mins to get a sale" And like in every other sales job, there are $$ quotas or you will get terminated.

True, they will sell whatever you want to buy. The thing is, if the OP were to go back in and say 1,500 points isn't working for them. The salesperson response will be to buy more points.

I’m in kidani and I have a savannah view in the zebra section. I’m on the back side, I see a zebra, a wildebeest, couple of ostrich, some gazelles, and the giraffes when they go to the pen. It’s nice and quiet. Never mind, not so quiet, the zebra started hee hawin about something lol

In our stay at AKV, I determined that the zebras are the a$$h00les of the savannah.

Maybe this is why I like them... I feel ripped off, I only got one zebra and the backstage dirt road.... I can’t complain too much, my first exchange in RCI was a success I’d say

Every year when my maintenance fees are due I regret ever buying timeshares. It is a terrible value with regard to ways you can do similar things for much less.
However.....I belonged to a country club for years. I could have played golf for way less money. A smart guy told me you really can't just compare the cost. It's the whole thing, ambience, availability, consistent quality, etc. Marriott gives you stuff not really easily available otherwise. They are all real nice, consistent quality, relatively easy availability, great locations, etc.
You can regret the money spent...I sure do often enough. But the most valuable thing you have is not money, it's time. What you do with time is the important thing. Nice vacations are a bigger deal than I ever thought pre-timeshare. I am now forced to go in vacation fairly often, compared to hardly ever before. I regret the expense but not the experience. Might be the same for you.

They should have never sold you 1,500 points. However, now that you are in try to enjoy the purchase. We have found that certain midweek low season resorts are really enjoyable with little crowd size. Just did Orlando Grande Vista for 3 nights. Played golf, went to Epcot, went to some restaurants, enjoyed the pool area. Also utilize the destination escapes. I saw the Mayflower in Washington DC offered. Great hotel in a very good location.
I stayed at the Mayflower Hotel through MVCI a few years ago. It was agreat experience because I had never been to DC. If you have a Marriott credit card and your gold or above you can use the club floor for yourself and one other guest. It was the best club floor ever. We saved a fortune eating breakfast and dinner there.
