Interval International accommodation certificate place request

I received an accommodation certificate in my interval international account. The certificate references one of my timeshare weeks which I have already traded. I can use the certificate for a trade which cost $398.46. A "place request" cost $259, and allows a request to be placed with the exact resorts and dates I want. I don't understand how the place request works. If I get a trade for the place request, am I only charged the $259 trade fee or am I also charged the $398.46 accommodation certificate fee? Thanks.

One more question. If I pay $259 to place a request using the accommodation certificate in my Interval International account and if the request does not receive a match, is the $259 refunded to me? Is the original trade with my timeshare week impacted? I think this question should be under exchanging, but I don't know how to move the question to the exchange forum.

i am struggling to understand your questions. If you use the accomodations certificate (AC for short) - there is usually an exchange fee - I have seen as high as $299 i think - maybe it depends on the size of the room? Plus sometimes, tax. I am not aware of how to use the AC with an ongoing search - but if it allows you to do that - then the request placement fee IS the exchange fee - you are just prepaying it - so if there IS a match, they can process it right away without you losing the match. So hopefully this answers your questions.

I have played around with my AC's and I've seen where the search showed a lower price than an actual available exchange. It may be that $259 prepays for most of the fees but depending on what you actually match you may have to pay additional fees for taxes and/or a size upgrade. If you prepay the $259 it should hold your match but what I don't know is if that will completely cover the total cost of the match or if it just holds it and gives you an opportunity to pay difference which looks like it could be $0-$150 or so more.

I am not sure why it is $259 to place a request for the accommodation certificate, but an instant match is $398.46 using the accommodation certificate. I would have thought the two $ amount would be the same. As tschwa2 mentioned, am I charged the difference ($398.46 - $259)?
If I get a match for the "place request", do I get 24 hours to decide on the match? For example, the match could be a Friday check-in, but I would want a Saturday check-in. An instant match for a accommodation certificate (I take one of the weeks offered without doing a "place request") does not allow 24 hours to change my mind. I am wondering how the "place request" for an accommodation certificate works.

Another AC question not related to price: I know that different AC's have different inventory, even if they have the same start and stop dates, but does the inventory change or increase once we have them? I have two currently, and I am sure that as people use what is there the availability diminishes, but do new resorts get added? Or does inventory increase as time goes on after they have been issued to us?

New inventory is added or deleted as time goes on. Typically, more is added around the 2 month mark.

Thanks. Very good to know. I thought, for some reason, that they were static except for withdrawals. Helpful to know that the inventory is dynamic and the 2 month timeline is helpful too.
