Did you know that if you have ownership in Hawaii that you cannot book the last 2 weeks in December? They save that for the Elite group, but fail to mention it when they are trying to sell it to you.

Hawaii has event weeks for weeks 51 and 52 for most, if not all, of the Timeshares there.

I own Hilton not Vistana, but those weeks are reserved for owners of those weeks. But if they cancel and use their points elsewhere you might be able to pick up one of those weeks. Now it will be hard, but not necessarily impossible. You just have to get lucky and find the week once the owner cancels. Problem is that is never a predictable time period.

So how does Vistana handle it?

They don't save them for elite owners, they save them for people who have the deeded right to those weeks. Even elite owners with regular weeks can't book them. You can buy week 51 or week 52 fixed weeks resale, but they are more than regular weeks.

My Vistana Hawaii weeks are clearly deeded as floating weeks 1-50.

The last two weeks of the year were sold at "Event Weeks" for a high premium, and you have to own one of those weeks to reserve it. That's why your deed says weeks 1-50.

So how does Vistana handle it?

Vistana puts Event Weeks that aren't going to be used by the owner in their own inventory, and rents them - they aren't available to other owners.

Nice that Hilton throws that inventory back to everyone else. It is still luck of the draw if you find it, but at least there is a possibility.

The answer is most of us here are aware that Hawaii Vistana weeks are not available for non event owners of those weeks. If sales is telling you the reason you can't book is that you are not elite and need to buy more (but are not selling you those event weeks) they are lying about availability to elite owners.

To the OP, it was very clear when I bought at WKORV and WKORVN that I could not book Christmas and New Years weeks. The paperwork states specifically that I can book any week 1-50, so I knew I had no chance of booking weeks 51 or 52 with my ownership. That is pretty common in the timeshare world. Developers can get more money by breaking out the highest demand weeks, and selling them at a premium. (I used to own a timeshare for weeks 51 and 52, but sold it.) It has nothing to do with "Elite" membership.
