Hello All,

Today, I received a telephone call from the Resorts International Access network. 866-217-0789. I own a timeshare in Hilton Head and have an exchange membership with Interval International.

They stated they received my information from II, that I had not used my 3 Getaway available weeks for friends & family. Asking if I would be willing to book these 3 weeks so they can utilize for Corporate bookings with a potential reimbursement of $1800.00 per listing. They also stated that they had a relationship with II for filing lodging for big corporations at Trade Shows, etc.

Has anyone heard of this type of arrangement before? Is this a scam? Thanks for any input.

Regards,

Sandy

It's a scam and a very common one. They ask for an upfront fee to market your weeks. 1. Never pay anyone a large fee to market your weeks. 2. II (and RCI) do not allow getaway weeks to be sold. They are for member use or members can gift but not sell weeks to friends and family. 3. Getaway weeks aren't worth $1800 over what they cost members. The funny thing is they don't ask for you to book anything, somehow they can market and sell unbooked bonus weeks and send you a check when they rent them out without ever accessing your II account or booking anything- all they need is $700-$1900 to market these magic weeks.

Actually, according to OP, they were asking her to book weeks. That doesn't take it out of the scam category but makes it less obvious.

I still have never heard of anyone actually being asked to book, That would mean that would mean that the person would have to pay $300+ per week to book plus whatever marketing fee the scammers are asking for. I think they somehow imply that their "special relationship" with the exchange company lets them book the week directly (and nothing actually gets booked). The OP would have to come back to confirm but I am not sure that those who don't actually pay ever get that clarified.

We just got a call from this same company today. Similar pitch. "You have 3 bonus weeks. You can get up to $2,000 for each one by letting us rent them for you..." They didn't mention anything about up front fees, but that could just be due to DW saying they needed to talk to me. Glad I ran the phone number in Google before I called them back. Google pulled up the link to this TUG discussion.

I have seen so many scam companies come and go that I knew it was a scam just from the name. Resorts, International, Access, and Network - each of those individual names are commonly used in a scammer’s “business” name. It was as if this scammer decided to use all of the common scam names together as one business. The only other common name left out is “Solutions”. If they weren’t probably scamming someone at this exact moment I would find their name kind of hilarious.

WeThey didn't mention anything about up front fees...

Not yet. But once you decide to go ahead with them (which obviously you are not going to do), they will get you all excited telling you they have finally found a renter. Once you are salivating at your big pay day, they will tell you that they need some sort of tax or fee to complete the deal.

The rest will be history.

And so will be any money paid.
