We do not think this show is going to make it.
I watched Hawaii 5-0 for a few seasons, but I finally gave up on it. The final straw was when Grace Park and Daniel Dae Kim left the show. I was getting disenchanted with the show anyway as it had become (to me) totally formulaic. Danny (if she was even in the show) and McGarrett would have some stupid dialog, and at the end there would be some huge fight (not them) with a shootout, chase, or both. Even the beautiful scenery couldn't overcome it.
I'm another that cannot see anyone but Tom Selleck as Magnum, so gorgeous as the scenery may be, I'm not watching the show. I guess I'll just have to go to Hawaii for the scenery.
I too don't think the new Magnum show will make it.
Funny thing is, about 15+ years ago, we were in Honolulu visiting family, and read about an evening event on Waikiki beach introducing 2 pilot TV shows produced in Hawaii. It was very crowded but we eventually managed to find spots to watch the pilots being shown on a big screen erected close to the beach. The first pilot was a police drama in Honolulu, utterly forgettable. I think it lasted 1 season. But the 2nd show was very intriguing and the whole audience was pretty engaged; we wanted to see more of that one! That pilot show was Lost
Earlier before the showings, a few of the Lost actors were introduced up on a little stage, and we remember seeing Evangeline Lilly, Kate, and Matthew Fox, Jack. My kids were big Lost fans, and they can't believe, could only vaguely remember being there.
I'm old enough to have watched the original Hawaii 5-0 as a kid-teenager, and caught snatches of Magnum PI when in college. At first I didn't care for Magnum PI plots, but watched it just cause I was homesick for Hawaiian scenery, and grew to like it. I liked the reboot Hawaii 5-0 better than I thought I would, but my least favorite character is Danny, 2nd? in command guy, played by Scott Caan.
In my child-preteen eyes, the original Hawaii 5-0 didn't seem so bad, but later in high school had a social studies class about TV show stereotypes. I still remember some of the racial stereotypes we discussed about Hawaii 5-0. They were a reflection of the times

I like the new Hawaii 5-0's portrayal of the different characters better than the original; and they also use cool technology in figuring out their leads. But maybe too advanced or too quick for real police work...well you can only fit in so much in one hour. I believe Grace Park and Daniel Dae Kim left the show over salary disputes compared to other cast members.
