Anybody else watching the reboot of Magnum PI? I am a big Hawaii fan and always seeing the islands in shows and movies. I watched the first two episodes and found the script a bit light and not very believable, but did enjoy the cinematography with lots of island shots.

I also like the crossover characters from Hawaii 5.0.. I think i only watched a couple episodes of the original series, so i can't really compare the two...

Not sure yet if this will hold my interest over time.

Remakes of series have less than zero interest for me.

Cheers

No one can be Tom Selleck.

Watched first episode, have second dvr'd. Not sure yet. Depends on how compelling the writing is.

We do not think this show is going to make it.

in watching the trailer, I thought the only real character they got right was rick.

the rest of the cast just didnt make me think of the previous players IMO.

It's too early to tell about the actors and the plots, but the scenery is 10x better than the original. Nobody can match the original Higgins, but I do like the new Higgins too.

I think Higgins might be my favorite character so far.

Didnt get hooked on the original craze, was too busy running around myself.

I did watch for the Hawaii scenery as I do the 5-0 series.

I didn’t think much of the new PI, it never showed him doing anything investigative. One of the things I like about 5-0 is their cool computer desk.

How many Ferraris is he going to crash? That was just stupid parking it at the end of the driveway, hes not very smart this new Magnum. I think it was a fake 458, body only. Then he uses the 308 in a car chase and drives it off a cliff (cgi)? He needs a big 4x4 truck with steel rail bumpers if hes going to drive like that.

No hawaiian shirts or shorty shorts?

I thought the new show might influence car shoppers, so I bought some Ferraris (stock symbol RACE).

The scenery has been nice and we enjoy laughing at the script and action.

I didn't think the new Hawaii Five-0 would last, either.
I thought folks wouldn't go for replacing Jack Lord & James MacArthur.
Yet, it's been around for 9 seasons, so who knows?

We have watched the first two episodes and definitely enjoy the scenery. We like this version of Rick and Higgins, but prefer Tom Selleck and the original TC better. We will keep watching it.

Best regards.

Mike

Just proves if you blow up, crash, shoot or otherwise destroy enough stuff in a pretty location, a lot of people will watch:D

Cheers

They need to kill off Magnum and make it the Rick and Higgins show. They are the two most interesting and compelling characters on the show and I think it would be a lot more interesting.

You forgot that there is a lot of people that have never saw those TV shows because they were too young or not born.

Magnum PI original : 1980 to 1988
Common Sense says must be age 11+ to watch this TV show https://www.commonsensemedia.org/tv-reviews/magnum-pi
So,
  • anybody born before 1969 may have saw all seasons of this TV show
  • anybody born between 1969 and 1977 may have saw some seasons of this TV show
  • anybody born after 1977 has probably never saw this TV show
Hawaii 5-0 original : 1968 to 1980
Common Sense says must be age 12+ to watch this TV show https://www.commonsensemedia.org/tv-reviews/hawaii-five-o-1960s
So,
  • anybody born before 1956 may have saw all seasons of this TV show

  • anybody born after 1968 has probably never saw this TV show

So, am I jumping conclusions to assume that you're retired? :)

I watched Hawaii 5-0 for a few seasons, but I finally gave up on it. The final straw was when Grace Park and Daniel Dae Kim left the show. I was getting disenchanted with the show anyway as it had become (to me) totally formulaic. Danny (if she was even in the show) and McGarrett would have some stupid dialog, and at the end there would be some huge fight (not them) with a shootout, chase, or both. Even the beautiful scenery couldn't overcome it.

I'm another that cannot see anyone but Tom Selleck as Magnum, so gorgeous as the scenery may be, I'm not watching the show. I guess I'll just have to go to Hawaii for the scenery. :)

I'm not retired. I'm still too young for that. I never saw the original Hawaii 5-0 and I only saw a couple of seasons of the original Magnum PI because I'm born in the 70s.
I'm not working today because it's Thanksgiving here in Canada.

My wife and I have been slowly working our way through the original Hawaii Five-0 programs. Discs tend to be cheap (about $14 per season with a season containing 24 shows). What strikes us most is how diverse the plots were -- much more so than contemporary shows. Overall, the show has stood up to the test of time. Some other old shows that we have looked at haven't held up as well.

I haven't started it. If it does fairly well I might pick it up in reruns. I am enjoying the new Murphy Brown and continue to watch the reboot of Will & Grace. Never watched Hawaii 5-0 the first time around. I was a regular Magnum PI watcher back in the day. I also liked the Roseanne reboot, but can't imagine the show without her this season. (She is one of our clients, but until last month we've always worked with a minion and never met her. Cliff was at her home doing a repair and worked directly with her this time. Told her the price of new motorized rods for a wide expanse of window and her reply was "well I better get a job first!")

Funny thing is, about 15+ years ago, we were in Honolulu visiting family, and read about an evening event on Waikiki beach introducing 2 pilot TV shows produced in Hawaii. It was very crowded but we eventually managed to find spots to watch the pilots being shown on a big screen erected close to the beach. The first pilot was a police drama in Honolulu, utterly forgettable. I think it lasted 1 season. But the 2nd show was very intriguing and the whole audience was pretty engaged; we wanted to see more of that one! That pilot show was Lost

Earlier before the showings, a few of the Lost actors were introduced up on a little stage, and we remember seeing Evangeline Lilly, Kate, and Matthew Fox, Jack. My kids were big Lost fans, and they can't believe, could only vaguely remember being there.

I'm old enough to have watched the original Hawaii 5-0 as a kid-teenager, and caught snatches of Magnum PI when in college. At first I didn't care for Magnum PI plots, but watched it just cause I was homesick for Hawaiian scenery, and grew to like it. I liked the reboot Hawaii 5-0 better than I thought I would, but my least favorite character is Danny, 2nd? in command guy, played by Scott Caan.

In my child-preteen eyes, the original Hawaii 5-0 didn't seem so bad, but later in high school had a social studies class about TV show stereotypes. I still remember some of the racial stereotypes we discussed about Hawaii 5-0. They were a reflection of the times  I like the new Hawaii 5-0's portrayal of the different characters better than the original; and they also use cool technology in figuring out their leads. But maybe too advanced or too quick for real police work...well you can only fit in so much in one hour. I believe Grace Park and Daniel Dae Kim left the show over salary disputes compared to other cast members.

I get the sense she is not a very agreeable person to do business with, I don’t think I could stand being in the same room with her.

She bailed on a business here in OC, something bound to make a profit.

I've watched the first two episodes (never watched the original). It is sub par in my opinion. I am giving it one or two more episodes to become a little more intriguing otherwise I will find other things to do with my TV time.
